re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

^^ i'd rate HTC desire HD and HTC desire at par - can't decide which is better
Reasons - HTC Desire HD has better specs but HTC Desire is closest to Nexus One and will get custom roms very quickly.
Next would be Galaxy S
Reasons - Closest to Nexus S and hence possibility of getting updates from community. Not number 1 because, I don't trust Samsung over HTC when it comes to official updates coming quickly or even coming at all!
Have no experience with Desire Z, but looks like that maybe lower spec'd, so last.

Re: Android applications

App name - Snap n Go

Free/Charge - Free of Charge by Samsung Apps

What it does - Transfers files from the PC to the Phone via wifi just by a click. No Cords needed. No transferring from memory cards etc. Visit this link to actually see how it works:

How it performs (your rating) - 5*

On my galaxy 3, I can access Samsung Apps but there are only 2 apps namely "this day in history" & "Robert Parker". you are not losing much if you can't access these apps.

Android Development

Compiled and tested 'Hello World' program on my HTC Desire, it works!
Used Fedora-14 with the Android SDK.
Tested with and w/o eclipse.
Planning to learn Java in the coming days to code something interesting!

Hi KRN,
I am considering HTC WildFire as my next phone. I am searching for reviews of the phone - specifically the GPS and navigation features.
Does this come with free maps?
How good is the GPS?

Hey Fellas,

I am in a little hurry hence just flipped through some of the pages on this thread, so pardon my ignorance and impatience.

I am in urgent need of an android phone with a budget of 10~15k. Any help/suggestions would be really appreciated (I have never used android before)?

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

ok.
I have got only another day to take a call.

There are these carrier_contract_fones available (in US).
And they cost like 50% chopped off from the price equivalent to the ones herein India.
They require SSN, as a proof, to buy (it seems).

Now, If I decide to buy any one of these, how easy/difficult legal/illegal is it to
a. bring it to India (right away),
b. Unlock the phone (Sim_unlock)

1. Google Nexus S
2. Desire HD
3. Dell Streak

This is assuming I am ready to risk the warranty(service) of the mobile bought.

care,

Ace.
P.s. Its very very tempting when you see the price difference!!

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

^^ you can get the Nexus S contract free from best buy for 500 bucks.
Even if you get nexus s with Tmobile, the phone itself is unlocked, you can swap any sim into it. Google phones are not locked to carrier. Ofcourse you are legally bound with tmobile to pay them for the monthly contract, whether you use their sim or not on your nexus s.

Yeah but what happens if you break the contract? do we have to pay them the full money for the phone?

We bring a locked phone to India.
Unlocking it is easy?? (for the above 3 phones?)
Any penalty to pay for that?

Ace.

Go to the Flipkart website and check out the phones available - I would suggest LG Optimus One or the Motorola phone
