Prime contenders -
1. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
2. LG G6

Have decided to purchase S7 Edge.

I see some attractive prices in DX.com. The S7 Edge retails around 50k in Amazon/Flipkart but around 34k in DX.com. Too good to be true.

Am I missing something?

Also let me know in case you have reasons to choose G6 over S7 Edge.
QuadDAC
Dolby Vision Display
Dual Cameras
Front cam with wide angle option as well

Thank you.

Yep, G6 was my first choice too. But S7 has stellar reviews for Camera and long battery power which is my top two requirements. I'm also a sucker for Selfies but looks like both these are mediocre in that department.

I think I will be going with G6 as the S7 Edge's display looks very fragile and I don't like babying any object.

Guys, any opinion on DX.com, especially on what I quoted?

Would not be comfortable with buying a flagship device from a foreign website. love my warranty too much

Thank you. G6 costs around 36k in Indian websites and 30k in DX.com. I think the extra bucks are worth the shot for the 1 year period warranty where lemons can be repaired.

G6 retails for 34k and S7 Edge for 33k here in Burma Bazaar, Chennai, no warranty though. Will check for the price with some authorized retailers too.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

A month ago, LG apparently had an employee offer where the G6 was sold off to their staff at 50% discount which was 23k odd. With bill at that price. Check OLX for unopened units perhaps?

But not sure how LG would honour warranty for such devices though.

Will check it out. I think that price negates the lure for warranty.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Why not buy the Samsung Galaxy A5 instead? Do you like that gimmicky edge display?

(That said, if the camera is a priority, go for the S7.)

Yes - Honor's implementation is obvious while MIUI is more stealthy.

OK friends - upfront, let me admit, my rant was fairly harsh and I could've used better words. So apologies on causing that miscommunication. But it turns out I was wrong all along #megafacepalm

I missed that Nexus (what fractional % point of the Android universe is it anyways?) gets security updates. No other manufacturer does that except 1+ as per this page. That's what ticked me off - why should one have to get the OS updated (with more lag for most devices) to get security fixes?

a. I do know that unlike Apple which behaves like any other manufacturer is incorrigible. So I don't have a charitable view of them either. In fact, on this one aspect, they are worse.
b. But here's the thing - turns out Google already secures network communications through Google Play Services framework. So all you need to do to keep yourself secure is to regularly keep updating your bank apps. They will be the first ones to react to any such vulnerabilities and would insist on the latest Play Services framework under all circumstances. Good job by them - I was wrong in my previous post

https://developer.android.com/traini...-provider.html

Of course you can set all your apps to auto update, but besides becoming more bloated, I don't see any point in updating android apps. Have only been a forced upgrader of apps for last two years and it hasn't impacted my life one bit

Fed up of iOS [due to restoring it via iTunes] I got myself A5 2016 in October last year. Good phone & I was happy, but found it too big for my liking. Got the S7 in January, after using for few months, found it to be a tad larger again. Went back to iPhone 7 [wish the SE came with water proofing abilities, me being a rider].

Point is, what stopped Samsung from getting the A3 for India? I would have loved that phone and I may not have to go through this expensive shifting of phones. In short, am simply fed up of big/large phones and no decent phones are under 5 inch now

Camera wasn't much better to be very honest, didn't try and compare the zoom function.

The A3 really is the perfect phone if you want a smaller device. That's why I went to the lengths of importing it from Dubai to lay my hands on it, and I couldn't be happier.

I have the S7 (non-edge) and it has been rock solid over the past year. There's hardly anything to complain about, except maybe the selfie camera, and the glass back, which is the route many manufacturers are taking with their flagships.

What's good: Outstanding rear camera (crazy fast autofocus and brilliant in low light), efficient and really bright display, battery life, water resistance (survived many immersions), audio quality via headphone jack, general performance (the latest phones would be better though) and build quality.

Samsung's mobile payments solution, Samsung Pay, can be very convenient too, because of its compatibility with conventional magnetic stripe readers, unlike other solutions.

You can currently buy the S7 Edge on Samsung's official site and get 10k cashback on the Coral Blue coloured one and 5k on the other colours. You also get 5k back on the regular S7.

Hope this helps.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I am looking for a Tablet. Primary requirements

1. Ability to use split screen ( so stock Android 7 or upgrade available to 7 is a must)
2. Size - 8 inch or higher
3. stand alone GPS (for use in a car for navigation)
4. Budget - as small as possible.
5. 4G - if I can use my Jio sim, thats an advantage

let me know what are my options, I see very limited Android 7 tablets in the market.

Primary use is working on office emailbox while spending time in Bangalore traffic, secondary use case is as car media player.

You could look at the Alcatel A3 10. Not high performance but has Nougat and is value for money.

Thanks. It does look like value for money; but unfortunately available in Flipkart only and currently out of stock

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I have an observation. This thread no longer has the kind of activity it once saw. Why is that so?

Is everyone happy with their phones that they no longer need to purchase a new one?

Curious if others agree with the observation and what their theory is.
