Agreed 100%, but its tough to educate people as few members forget everything when they are part of a group chat. Hope tomorow someone doesnt tell everyone that he had a good scratch on the bum !!

The number never goes above 25 till today, now it has dropped to just 19 and that explains the irritation part caused through silly messages. I am just keeping it in the hope of having some use of it when there is an emergency !

There is a white one that just got launched a month or so back, still hard to find.
We just bought around 10 phones (BB8520) for some of our staff and family members from London unlocked @ 150 pounds each = 11,000 INR. At that price, the phone is brillllliant !

Guys, would you advise selling my 8900 Javelin for the new Bold2? I'm currently using it as my corporate phone and my primary usage includes checking emails (obviously!), Twittering and app dev. I still think the Javelin looks better than the 9700 but the higher resolution display, official BB 5 and making me lean toward the newest BB. However, I do have my doubts - is the trackpad really that better than the Jav's trackball or the trackpad on the E72? Is the keyboard really an improvement over the Jav? I had a loaner Bold 9000 a couple of months ago and the keyboard just sucked.
How's the build quality -some folks over on Crackberry and pinstack say that the E72 is miles ahead of the 9700 in build quality.

I'm hoping someone who's used a 8900 & 9700 can help me out here.

On a side note, does anyone know the cheapest place to buy a 9700 in India? A couple of shops I visited are selling it for close to 35K which just sounds ridiculous.

in mumbai the grey market ones are less than 28k.

its definitely worth upgrading from the javelin. for one the phone is much much faster, the javeline is a slouch. the trackball is very stiff even compared to the bold 1. the trackpad is waay better. the build quality is nothing great, but its about the same if not better than the bold.

the difference in keyboards between the bold and javelin are personal choice. since the bold you got was a loaner its possible the keyboard wasnt in the best of shape.

It is definatly worth the upgrade. Your best bet to get the phone is to buy it outright/no contract from AT&T or Tmobile (i believe they stopped selling without contract, not sure) from USA. I was just in thailand and checked at MBK mall the phone was being sold for 18,000 baht but it definatly could be bargained down further. Or else most grey market stores in Mumbai are selling it for 28.

Personally I prefer the Javelin key's the feedback better but am fine with my Bold2 keyboard also. It's only when i use them side-by-side, do I feel the difference.

How can I upgrade without messing up any of my existing data and settings ? Does wireless update work or does one have to do via the computer?

Have you guys got the new pricing for javelin and bold?

5000 bucks reduced!

Jjavelin at 19,990 MRP redington imported is a steal IMO and bold is at 26,990 MRP

Having bought one at 24k a few months back i can only sigh :(

And the Bold2 will be launched in a few days time...finally!

is there a link for the new os version?

Is it available through the desktop manager? If not, here's a link:
Official BlackBerry Curve 8900 OS 5.0.0.411 Released By Multiple Carriers | CrackBerry.com

Don't know if Redington has approved the update, but many carriers around the world have.

Edit: Seems like they haven't, since it's still 4.6.x.x

However, you can still do it by downloading the leaked version and updating it yourself via Apploader.

My friend connects to the internet on his PC using his Blackberry while he is on 299 plan. He says he can only connect to the internet from the laptop, but not on the phone. And its unlimited it seems. He is on Airtel in Bangalore and he purchased the BB from Airtel. Is this available in Hyderabad also?

Unlimited Internet access for 299? Highly unlikely. If he is able to connect from the laptop, he should be able to from the handset also. Must be a setting problem.

He is unable to browse anything from the handset. But using the dial-up connection from the laptop, he is able to connect to the internet and open various sites using the handset as a modem. And I know for sure that he has the Rs.299 blackberry plan from the Airtel. I am stumped and he is showing with a "matter of fact" kind of look.....

For browsing on the handset, his service book should indicate the routes his BB browser (or Opera Mini) can take. Perhaps his browser needs to be pointed to Airtel Live or Airtel Mobile Office to function.

They fight tooth and nail not to give unlimited browsing even in the 1199 BB plan, unless 20 connections are there together. Perhaps he will see it in next month's bill as data charges! Would be interesting to know what kind of plan your friend has.
