I got the 9700 yesterday!

Here is my first impressions compared to Bold 9000!

pros :

1. Smaller form factor, easier to carry and pocket.
2. Higher resolution screen
3. more ram, means more multitasking and ability to run more apps without a problem.
4. Amazing battery life. I got the phone with 30% charge last evening and after exploring the fone, using the camera, wifi, and talking, smsing its still at 20%.
5. OS 5 or the RAM the fone is fast.
6. The leather pouch is well sorted, its not gonna rip of the chrome.
7. Camera is awesome (compared to bold 9000), Autofocus, antishake etc
8. Video is recorded in slightly higher res too
9. Trackpad feels better, but i miss the trackball's feedback.
10. 2GB memory card.
11. Brighter LED flashlite.
12. Keypad is smaller but ergonomic, i will get faster on this in a day or so i think.

Now the cons :

1. Screen is smaller
2. Trackpad is nice, more durable, but lacks the "feel". I have the click sound enabled just to know what its doing.
3. Keypad : keys are closer togather than the bold.
4. Smaller Form factor : People think its Curve 2 rather than Bold 2
5. Lack of bling factor : The Bold 9000 had much more bling than 9700. But i think 9700 is easier to mod in terms of changing bezel and all.
6. No inbuilt memory, like the Bold 9000 had 1GB inbuilt memory.

Oh btw, migrating the contacts on the BB msger was butter smooth. All i did was sync using my email and all contacts were transfered and they didn't even know that i changed my fone/pin ... Insane!

Nice review there aZa. Trust me on this one - the trackpad is far better than the track ball. It takes 2 - 3 days of usage to know how good the track pad is ! I got the 8520 and it rocks !

I am now going to upgrade to the 9700 soon. My wife wants my 8520 as she wants to be on BB all of a sudden. The 299 plan rocks ! 4 Messengers & 5 E - Mail accounts.

Is it me or has it started raining Blackberrys suddenly. Everyone's getting one or needs one

I think BB is going to outdo everybody this year ( all E71's and similars ). The 299 plan has suddenly increased the BB sales by 10 - 15 times !! I am sure.

One Question - I got my first BB Vodafone Bill - 860 Rupees which includes 299 + 199 as rentals. It also includes an advance rental of 299 for BB. So I paid for last month and the current month of February. I called up Vodafone helpline and they said any add on service you take you pay advance rental. Is it true ? No Big deal for 299, I am only checking if it happens with everyone ? Thanks !

The BB Messenger is addictive. I keep Broadcasting messages to my entire list the whole day. Pics & Jokes floating around the whole day - FREE ! Mad !

Saw an ad today in TOI.

Mobile Store is offering Rs.2500 movie card that can be redeemed at any Multiplex in your city if you buy a Blackberry.

Essentially 2 movie tickets per month is what you can avail for 12 months.
Pretty decent offer, i think !

Saw another ad in TOI today.

Airtel is offering new postpaid BB connections at Rs 99 per month for the first 6 months and thereafter Rs 299 per month.

Looks like there would be a price war on BB services soon.

Cheers.

vkocher : yes they charge advance rental on the first month thereafter it becomes normal, also the billing is funny. They first charge you for data throughput and then apply discounts!

The BB Messenger is serious fun.

They charged me with 4500 Rupees of data and didn't up my credit limit, so I was getting frantic SMSes from whatever stupid management software they use. Could've atleast warned me in advance.

Numerous calls everyday to their service center in andheri, which I may add is a nightmare to get through to- either their lines are busy or out of service. I managed to get hold of their Maharastra heads number and he gives the story like the service center chaps " Sirrr it will be here by tomo" Obviously that tomorrow never comes.

Anyone have a higher contact that I can report this to?
Sahil can you post the official service center address and contact details here please?

Has the 5.0 OS become stable? Hope after installing none of my existing data will vanish

I am also looking at Bold2, after thinking of Curve-Javeline (AKA Curve2) for long. How much did you get it for? Do you think it is better than Curve2, ignoring the 3G part?

Cold anyone suggest going for a Blackberry Storm replacing E71 with mobile office activated, is there any advantage in going for it, my mobile is now a year old and i want to upgrade it but fear that it should not end up buying a downgrade model, my requirement is only to have a large screen of 3"+ rest all the standard features of business will do.
