I believe customers who purchase those 2 blackberry models will only get free "BBM" service only for 1 year and not the BIS. Some websites wasn't clear on that information... Vodafone BlackBerry connect: Features - Charges - Supporting handsets | India

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Hello everyone,

I have been living for the past year in Madrid , Spain where I was doing my higher studies. I was using a blackberry curve 9300(with 3g) . And whenever I used to come to india on a break ,i used to use bbm witht he help of my wifi at home. But this time the wifi and email services refuses to work under wifi. Whatsapp works though ! and also this time around i inserted a local sim card without any data services being activated on my phone. Did this hinder with the program ?
Now even when i remove the other local sim card still my bbm and emails dont work. I am going to be here for another month and would really appreciate any help to get my bbm running back again .
Would also prefer not buying data services and allowing the bbm to work under just wifi .

Regards
Arjun

Without buying a data service the BBM won't work. Since the BBM has to go through BB's servers, the PIN needs to be registered with BB either through Wifi or EDGE or 3G for you to use BBM. And this will be registered only if you have an active BB plan. You were initially able to use the BBM services on Wifi although on international roaming as your Spain service provider still had the BB service active and your PIN was recognized by BB over Wifi. Now try putting your Spain SIM in the phone (assuming the BB services is active on the connection), switch off data on roaming on the mobile network and try using BBM over Wifi. It should work.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Exchanged my Bold 9900 for an IPhone 4S 32GB . Was tired with the repeated dropped calls and reboots .Redington does replace the phone under warranty ,but this means one has to spend atleast half a day waiting in the queue at the service center ( Redington doesnt have any separate queue for premium phone users !) .Also ,a new handset means one has to install all the applications once again.

They had already replaced the earlier phone within 2 months of buying ,but now after 4 months ,the replaced handset was also creating problems.

Lets see how the IPhone performs .If this also fails to be reliable ,I might end up buying the cheapest available phone in the market which would atleast allow me to make and receive calls !

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

From what I understand from your post, Redington buys back the old BB(within warranty period) and sells you a new 4s against the price difference. Could you confirm that and provide more details on the replacement procedure itself and the commercial details.

Similar situation...wanted to upgrade my phone, sold my Bold 3 and bought a Note. Just dint feel like spending 30k on a BB doesn't seem to be value for money. Hope BBM is available on android soon and if that happens i am sure most bb users will migrate.

Apologies for the confusion !

Redington is the distributor for BB phones in India .They replace/repair BB phones only.

I exchanged my phone with a local mobile phone retailer .

Had bought my BB for 32K INR ,got 20K INR for it

The IPhone 4S 32GB costs 51K ,had to pay a difference of 31K INR in exchange for my BB

Spec wise ,the BB might be faster on paper with a 1.2GHz processor as compared to the 1GHz on the Apple phone ,but I wanted a hassle free experience ,which unfortunately the BB couldnt give me .

I am trying to adjust to the touch from the Qwerty

Hope this answers your question .

RIM has no ideas of supporting BBM in cross platforms till date despite the rumors once in awhile. Logically if they did, they would lose one of the main features of BB and their revenues from network carriers. So i personally hope they dont lose BBM to other platforms or else that will be one of their greatest mistakes. Apple tried to follow RIM's steps for a unique closed communications and started iMessage. Heard Samsung was to release something called Chat or iChat. Seems each brands want their own messengers to grab a share of smart fone users population.

Well i am not sure if they actually intend to go cross platform. But i think its worth a try (obviously for a price) because they are not doing well with the current format either.

They may loose some income on the sale of handsets...but the increase in revenue due to BBM subscriptions by other users may just coverup for the income lost due to reduced sale of handsets.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Arjun, I am doing my MBA in Madrid too currently! Where abouts do you study?

I think what you need to do is call your cellphone provider and give them your bb pin so they can reactive your service. I had a similar issue, dont know why they want you to register your pin everytime, but I guess thats how Spain works.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Hi

Just upgraded my wife's and my BB.

Got my wife a bb 9360 white color. Over all phone is good but because of the processor speed ect the os 7 is a bit slow at multitasking. The battery is a sore point and you have to get used to charging is twice a day sometimes. Other my wife is quite happy with the same. Needed some help. I logged into the bb internet service using my id i/o of my wife's. Now the phone refused to let me use any other id. I read the same on the net and it mentioned that you have to wipe the phone other once you log in with one bb internet id you cannot use another one. Any feedback on the same would be appreciated.

I then purchased a 9790 for myself. The phone is really good and it combines the features of the 9900 in a smaller package.with a slightly lower processor speed. The best part is that you get the same battery and therefore the battery life is good with normal usage but no 3g I dont have the service as yet.
I am getting used the touch screen and because of the small screen am still using the key pad . In fact when the phone is in the pocket sometimes some aps gets activated. You have to remember to keep on engaging the keyguard lock. in fact was looking at a way to shut of the touch screen is it possible??
