Finally got Blackberry activated on my Q9h and my earlier concerns regarding battery life [since GPRS is always on] were unnecessary since the Q9h has risen to the task and does last a full day without a fuss. And am i glad that Idea came out with the Rs.299 plan.

Blackberry for corporates

Anybody using BlackBerry as Corporate Mobile Phone? Such as Corporate can setup your device and its security remotely so that you can use/view corporate data from phone securely.

This means you are using corporate mail account, Diagnostics, Backup Restore, Firmware over the air update (FOTA) etc.

These are essentially part of DM (Device Management) tool that BlackBerry supports. BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) is one of the best tool for DM.

I am sure people have heard of TATA DOCOMO ! They have launched in Karnataka. I am swayed away with their 'second' pulse rate. I think it is the first time in India that a provider is giving a 'second' as pulse rate when eveyone else is charging for 60 seconds or closer.

Now my doubt is; has anyone used their services more than 6 months ? How is the blackberry service provided by tata ? Will it be the same as tata was giving until today ? Or it will be a different entity as tata and docomo has merged in this new venture ?

I am trying to find these answers myself by calling up customer care or email enquiry, meanwhile, if someone is already using or recently subscribed to any of it, please share your views here. Thanks in advance.

@anuj - Yes I am using a Blackberry for corporate purpose since 2003. What do you want to know? I have even used a Moto Q with blackberry connect + exchange.

My TATA Woes

Device Model:8830 (CDMA + GSM world edition )
Price: Rs 29,XXX + Rs 500 activation
Carrier: TATA Indicom
Circle: Punjab
Subscriber since: Jan 2009
Plan/price: Platinum / Rs 3000 + tax- Started with Rs 2500 plan.

As soon as I landed in India my quest in search for a BB provider started. I needed BIS, BES & as much talk time as possible. I was used to unlimited talk and surf plans. Google d and found TATA has one such service. Before arriving here I was not sure how BB services were so I purchased a E90 for $6XX. I always knew Nokia had an edge in India. I sold E90 for less than half the price and availed the 8830 which is a model I used in 2007.

[b]Issues/B]:
  • After selling me a BB they took 3 days to activate my BIS services. The excuse which the store manager in sec 34 gave was; mine is the first BB they ever touched.
  • They activated my phone on a Rs 2500 + plan while the stupid agent had my account limit for Rs 2000 so guess what my phone became deactivated in 4 days when new bill cycle kicked. I paid another Rs 2000 + arguments
  • The phone worked perfectly fine until many callers including my office staff said my phone has "the customer you are trying to reach is busy on another line" mostly playing. Found out any time a data call is made busy tone is transmitted to the caller
  • Activation of Call Waiting and Voicemail took a lot of explanation to the dumb call center guys who really had to yet understand how to insert a plan code.
  • Call waitingshall only work when a user is actually making a voice call rather a data call caused by surfing or email push. Reasoning provided by call center in Gurgaon tech support is " sirji its making a gprs call so it will be busy" my response was GPRS is about using unused bandwidth of Time division Multiple access channel; which is used for GSM providers! Mine is CDMA. That shut him down.
  • I purchased a voda phone connection as a stand by when important people want to reach me. Until I trouble shooted with True value Hub, Sr. Tech support, Regional Director Sales, Call Centers Etc from Feb to June. Ultimately they gave up. No body knew why it happens but happens in most TATA phones. I convinced the Director for it to be a device issue. He replaced the device after keeping it in 3 days for testing. Good I had my Voda.
  • Since day one I asked them to make my billing cycle from 1st, they were not able to and they haven't yet been. Each rep had a different story to tell of how it can be done.
  • Finally, its the 2nd week after my phone got replace and I found out they got me on a wrong plan. I am on a limited data and some Honest plan. I found out they discontinued the unlimted plan. While swapping my device they got rid of the Legacy plan from my plan code. No one can retrive it nor can do they take the responsibility. Instead they blamed me for having to replace the phone LOL. My phone bill is Rs. 6700 in two weeks. Yes my spending limit gradually increased after I started paying bill in advance.
  • I called the center to cancel my plan and he said you will have to goto our center and submit an application. LOL they wish. I shut the device down.
  • I sold my blackberry today for Rs 9000 after discovery of an unlock gsm slot. A 2 week old blackberry which I could have sold for atleast 14 or 15 k.

Above are my problems with TATA at High Level. I might take TATA only if we get thrown into pigeon messaging age. Above are true incidents and lays no exaggeration due to aggravation.

If you have questions PM me to get my VODAPhone number.

Thanks D-Man, so your input on Tata adds great value to this thread. We already have experiences of Airtel and Vodafone in detail throughout the previous pages. I myself moved from airtel to vodafone. Most of your issues are common, which even I had to face after moving to vodafone. Half of the support team are not eligible to work in a BB support centre.

Anyway things are improving to a great extend. Present Tata DOCOMO merge might give a different quality altogether as they are introducing the first-time 'second' pulse unit etc into practice. I am yet to find out if they have BB services too. Not getting through their support lines. Will update here as soon as I get some details.

By the way, D-Man, you could post your PIN here if you are on a BB plan. Most of us BB users here are connected through the BB messenger. We talk each other whenever there is a need.

I have a noobie query. In my BOLD, I see a LED light flashing ( wifey gets annoyed of it due to its bright flashing in the dark) which i assume is for signal strength. I generally see 3 different color lights emanating ( Green, Blue and Yellow).

My understanding was :-
Green : Full Signal
Blue: Not so full signal
Yellow: No Signal or Weak Battery

But, i notice color is blue even when the signal is full strength. Is my assumption of the LED colors totally wrong in the first place.

Can someone highlight what is it's exact purpose?

I am not very sure of Bold. My Pearl has just 3 colours. Green for signal status (its always green weak or strong), Red for SMS, Email etc received and when there is zero network, Blue when bluetooth and WiFi are in action. I have not seen Yellow so far, if its there, it should be for weak battery. My LED is activated only when I am in the GYM, so that I can see if someone is calling or some SMS/Email is received. I can never hear it ringing because of the music and the machines working around.

Yes, its very bright in the night, specially if you dont have a bedroom lamp always ON. You can set it to OFF through Options >> Screen/Keyboard>>LED Coverage Indicator OFF/ON.

OT: You are supposed to sleep in the bedroom, not bothering about the LED colors

Blue - When your device is connected to any other hardware, router, phones, dongles, headsets, etc etc
Yellow - low battery
Green - Signal status
Red- message

Blackberry is known for conformance to standard and so are their LED's the notification is same in all devices. Unless you know how to program it. That is another thing anyways.

Thanks Shaju, I turn off the LED each night before sleeping as i like my bedroom to be void of any light.

You wont regret even if something goes wrong, because its not a fresh-smelling, out-of-fresh-box product for which you have paid north of 20k ! I wonder how the prices have dropped so much. An year back, I paid 2k for a stupid motorolla brand new handset which had black and white display and the wierdest ring tones in the world with a battery life of less than 5 hours. It was a back up phone for the house whenever landline failed. So, I didnt cry over it.

Since then times have changed my friend. My immaculately maintained Sony Erickson W810i which is 1.5 years old and looks, feels and operates almost like a new phone is getting offers for 2K. I decided to just gaze at it and not sell at that ridiculous price

I had paid 11K back then. Material objects are losing value too fast
