I will be buying from amazon, PL1 and PM1 have very little price difference. PM1 better than PL1? reviews seem to be mixed.

I meant to reply earlier but it slipped my mind. Sorry about that. PL1 has a weak AA filter which means sharp photographs. Not sure if that's the case with E-PM1 as well. I think E-PM1 is much smaller and a lot of people like it because it's pocketable. E-PL1 is slightly bigger. As far as the sensor goes, it's the same in both, so that way there won't be a big jump in IQ. If you want a cheap micro four thirds camera, E-PL1 is probably the best one to buy right now. I wish I could show you an year long review a friend did of his E-PL1 but that information is not available anymore :(. He has used it extensively for macro and loves it. You can however see the photographs here:

I am not sure if you can do a search by camera in his photostream, but most macros were done with his E-PL1.

I doubt, they charge via USB cable. You'd have to use a wall charger for it.

re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Thanks buddy. after some research panasonic G3 (469 on amazon) sounds much better deal than the E-PL1 (265). Actually I was going to go for E-PM1 (299). But with articulating LCD and remote shutter, and innovative movie shooting options, G3 makes a much better case for itself. Only bummer is protruding eye piece which will prevent it from being a pocketable camera (with a pancake lens)

The G3 is a lovely camera. I almost bought one but my friend who I talked about earlier convinced me to wait for the OM-D as it's my primary system. I am sure you'll have lots of fun with the G3. Penn camera was almost shutting down in Feb and I haven't seen a sweeter deal than that for a G3. They were ready to let it go for around $350 back then.

PM1 with dual lens kit for 29k or Sony hx 200v for 24500 or Panasonic FZ200 for 30k. Which is best for family use, indoors, wildlife and macros. Just not able to decide.

Indoors, Wildlife and Macro mean different lenses for EPM1.

I will suggest go for FZ200. Versatile. And with a constant aperture f2.8 Leica lens throughout the whole zoom length. You really cannot go wrong with it.

Thanks. I dont mind having to swap the lenses for better night photos in coming wedding function. Fz200 is 7k more on Emi option compared to PM1 with two lens. Hope good diwali offers will come up.

re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

So I have decided to go for the 9-18mm lens as stock for the OMD and not the 14-42mm. I will also get the 45mm f/1.8. Any ideas how much the 9-18mm costs in the market? I know the official price but expect the street price to be better. I plan to visit SE Asia sometime soon - should I just buy from there? Will I get a better price over there?

Early adopters of Nikon V1 must be cursing Nikon by now. Never seen Nikon slashing price by half, that too within a year.

Oh absolutely!

Luckily I didn't go in for the V1 last year. I for one doubt the V1/J1 sensor format will stand the test of time.

What Nikon needs is an APS-C mirrorless that will compete with the likes of the Olympus OM-D & Sony DSC-RX100. But then Nikon is a strange creature - an APS-C mirrorless will effectively nullify their DX line over time. They should have an ML range (a la Canon M) provided the F mount is retained and new lenses introduced for the ML (erstwhile DX) line.

So here we have Nikon ignoring the DX line with hardly any cameras introduced in the recent past (1-2 years) and certainly no pro level lenses for DX. While Canon could have carried this out due to it's sheer Corporate size, Nikon will find this kind of an approach of ignoring/killing DX will backfire as it effectively destroys their bread and butter range. It would cause a lot of disgruntled DX users to jump ship to Canon full frame or even other brands' ML systems.

As pretty a well known and respected poster on DPReview said, albeit related to the new Nikon USA parts and repair policy, the question may go from 'Why, Nikon?' to 'Why Nikon?'

Not sure if the kit lens will be sufficient for Night Photography. Add a nice prime lens to this kit. Maybe Oly 45mm f1.8 (Retails in India at around 16k if I recollect right).

The PM1 is a very different breed of camera compared to the other two. If your needs are one camera do-it all, the sony or the panasonic would suit you better. I have not used any one of them but am assuming that one would loose out on image quality viz a viz the EPM1 (since it is m4/3, meaning a lot bigger sensor). Drawback of EPM1 is that you will need different lens for different needs. BTY, you have not mentioned what are the two lens included in the EPM1 kit.

Personally, I would choose EPM1 with a normal zoom and a fast wide pancake lens over the other two as this would cover most of my needs. BTW, image quality of the m4/3 systems are quite close to crop DSLR's and certainly way ahead of regular P&S cameras.

@download2live
not quite sure of the usefullnes of the 45/1.8 lens on the 4/3 system unless for portraits or short tele usage. It is effetively 90mm on the 4/3 system. IMO, the 14mm, 17mm or the 20mm pancakes would be better focal lengths for general usage.

@R2D2 and Samurai
Fully agree on the N1 V1. But seriously, this new price tempts me a lot (am glad I was not one of the early adopters). I already have D90 and a number of Nikon AFS lens. If the image quality of the V1 is good, then it ticks a lot of things for me:

1. With the 10-30 zoom and the newly announced fast 18/1.8 prime for it, I can have a resonably compact system that I may tend to carry with me more often as compared to the D90.
2. With the FT1 adapter, I can use my 70-300 vr to make it a super telephoto combo (or even the 80-200/2.8 to make a killer 190-540/2.8 manual focus combo). Frankly, I want the longer reach without having to spend a bomshell on the longer Nikon telephoto lens, something I cannot justify right now.

Its just the crippled limitations of use of AFS lenses with the FT1 adapter (no AF-C, only single point Auto focus) thats holding me back. At $900 I would ever have considered the V1, but at $500 - well tempted a lot but not sure as yet.
