I'm not sure how far the information below is good. I got this by right clicking on the original image and clicked properties. I do not see anything specific that says EXIF information when I right click the JPG.

Sorry for chaining my post. But I just figured out using flickr to upload my images. I could see the complete exif information on the uploaded photos.

looks like camera had locked focus on the mesh behind the tiger. that part looks sharper.

@joe, finally I was able to spend some time navigating my camera.

If you have one item of interest in the frame (tiger in this case) tap menu, camera, autofocus area, and set it to flexible spot. Then when shooting, you can choose where to focus, it tracks the object if it's moving, you van cancel tracking by tapping at right bottom.

for landscapes or multiple objects (group photos) set it to area focus.

Even in area mode, you can select touch focus (icon just left of mode icon), which will set the focus to a spot and take the photo immediately once you tap a spot on the screen.

You may have already know most of it but since I was noticing it I thought I will let you know. The menu is not very intuitive.

PS: oops, just realized Nex-6 doesn't have a touch screen. Sorry, ignore the taps and touch focus tip.

I'm considering buying a prime lens. Contemplating between the Sigma 30mm f 2.8 or the Sony 50mm f 1.8. The Sigma looks cheaper and better. So might be settling with that.

I sold my Canon SX 10 IS that I bought in 2008 and paid the rest to buy a Sigma 30mm f2.8 lens for my NEX 6. The very first shot with it proved the only critic point which says that the Bokeh is not smooth. Here is a sample:

Since I will mostly be doing street photography, I will stick with the Sigma lens for the next couple months and even more. I might eventually be selling off my 16 - 50mm kit lens.

I have another question. I understand that the crop factor with the APS-C sized sensors is 1.5 times. The reference being the Full Frame sensors. Are there any other sensors other than the FF? Something like a middle format sensor that is dimension wise bigger than the FF sensors? I found the following information from a booklet at a Camera dealer.

Middleformat Sensors:
Size: 44.0 x 33.0mm, Crop Factor: 0.78

Fullformat Sensors:
Size: 36.0 x 24.0mm, Crop Factor: 1.0

APS-H Sensors:
Size: 28.7 x 19.0mm, Crop Factor: 1.3

APS-C Sensors:
Size: 23.7 x 15.7mm, Crop Factor: 1.5

Four Thirds:
Size: 17.3 x 13.0mm, Crop Factor: 2.0

That 30mm f2.8 is a very good lens. Check out how well it performs on the Sigma DP2 with a foveon sensor. The reports say the DP2 can beat a lot of full frames out there. I don't want to start an argument, so I'll leave the FF part out, you can find out if you search.

As far as the formats are considered, there's medium format as well as large format that have bigger sensors than the regular FF camera's sensor.

Ah, yes. The size of lenses (and in effect physics) makes the nex bigger. Look at pancake options. Both the sigma 19mm and 30mm are very good and can be bought at reasonable price.

The Sony 35mm is much wider (guess at least by 2 to 4 stops) and it three times expensive than the Sigma 30mm f2.8. I have so far never seen any sample pics of the Sony 35mm lens. The Sigma is a proven performer. It gives a 45mm equivalent on an APS-C sized sensor and should suit most of the street photography needs.

Nope, only wider by 1.27 stop.

i guess I need to get the 18-200 from tamron now, and it will become the perfect walk-around. Much lighter than the D7000 I must say.
That said, I suspect my kit lend will go waste. I doubt there is any resale existing for kit 18-55 in India.

On the IQ front, tried some astrophotography. Results are as good as expected. Will post some.

I am still getting used to no Eye viewfinder thingy. Since camera is light, its possible to hold it steady even in the awkward position.

Last but not the least, the focus peakng thing is amazing. I wonder why everybody does not do it when using contrast detect focus.

However, I miss a rough "scale" indication while focus.
For example, in FZ-25 when you do AF, it tells you the range of objects in focus. For example 2m-infinity. As you decrease F-stop, it would increase this range etc.

That is exactly why I wanted to buy into an NEX system. Compactness. My first ever digital camera purchase was a Canon Powershot SX 10 IS and after few days of using it, I started hating the bulkiness and left it home on many of my trips. With my NEX 6 and the Sigma 30mm lens, I can carry it in my Jacket pocket everywhere.

Let's hope that we have some good lenses for the NEX systems. I've even read about rumors that there will be a FF NEX camera sometime around in the next year. This just intensifies the justification for more NEX lenses at least from other manufacturers other than Sony.

Why not Sigma 30 F1.4 instead ? It gives wonderful shallow DOF.
I am using on Canon its sharp and focus is fast
Its available in nex mount as well.
