That I think is the HTML5 versus Flash war. Need to be one camp I guess.
Others can comment better on this.

But in spite of that, its IPAD2 all the way.

I would recommend Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. If you prefer bigger screen, you can go with Galaxy Tab 10.1. The others (Motorola Xoom, Asus Transformer, Acer Iconia, Toshiba Thrive) are not far behind. There is not much that can go wrong with any of these.

There is no war between HTML5 and Flash. It is a war between Apple and Adobe. HTML5 is a set of new technologies aimed at enhancing the browser capabilities to handle multimedia, offline storage, document editing etc. The objective is to allow the web sites and developers to provide any kind of content (including audio, video, games, documents) to the browser users without the need to any additional technologies apart from HTML. HTML5 is promoted by many companies including Google, Apple, Mozilla and Opera. Ian Hickson of Google is the editor of HTML5. The HTML5 is still a working draft and developing and it will take years for it to stabilize and become a standard.

Google aggressively promotes HTML5 but also allows people to use Flash on android and their browsers. Apple doesn't like Adobe, and uses HTML5 as an excuse to deny the Flash on their devices to cripple Adobe.

PS. This is purely my opinion. I don't have brand loyalties to any company, and I am not here to attack or defend any.

Re: Amazon Kindle - Touch & Tablet Version launched

I already own a kindle but still i may go for kindle fire to just use it as a tablet with android OS. This is really the best VFM android tablet available in market with an aggressive pricing.

If you want a cheap but powerful tablet - buy the Viewsonic G Tab. You can buy for $230 from US.

If price is no barrier - buy the Asus Transformer or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.

You will not get the 250GB storage on any of these or actually in any other tablet but hardwarewise these are much better with good community support.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

guys, im looking for a tab for my father, 60 years old, and only level of exposure he's had to IT on his own is editing word docs.

what would be the easiest to maintain tab for such a person?
I thought ipad2, but would really appreciate alternatives as well.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

^^ get him a 14" laptop instead. The large screen and physical keyboard will be easier for him to handle than the 10" screen of a Tablet.

already has one.
The tab is wanted mostly as a toy.
he finds the laptop too tedious to operate(bootup, shutdown etc.)
