If not for simcard, i would have recomended ipad mini for 20 k, if the environment is largely fixed then you get these pocket wifi router which works on the datacard and jas batery backup as well

http://www.flipkart.com/nexus-7c-tab...owse&pageNum=1

Seems the best option in your budget.

Although I bought my parents the galaxy tab last year for the same purpose. This wasn't available then.
The galaxy tab is not laggy for browsing and mails but the Nexus has better specs and vanilla android.

Is nexus 10 a good buy at $319/-(Approx. 20K INR) ?

Could someone share their experience with this tablet?

Sim card is a must since my dad doesn't appreciate dongles or pocket wifi routers as they are too cumbersome for him. He is inclined towards the tab 3 since its more widely used as compared to the fonepad but i would any day prefer the higher resolution of the fonepad over the tab 3 but have seen it only on online reviews and not in person.

I need a tab with 3g facility and i cant find the nexus tab with 3g so it leaves me with only the asus fonepad and the tab 3.

Anyone have any experience with these devices??

EDIT: i just saw the 2012 nexus 7C 32 gb 3g version on flipkart for 16k!!(price cut!!) Are there any issues with 3g signal quality?? IF not then i think my search is over. Though i dont know how i missed it on flipkart.

Ordered it yesterday morning and got it today morning!! The finish looks very good. I will use it for a few days and post a report here. However, do note that though I have been using computers heavily for 20 years, I am not an experienced tablet or smartphone user. My first smartphone is 3 months ago & this is my first tablet - so I don't have much of a reference point to compare it against.

By the way, while it was charging, it got a notification saying 4.3 Jelly Bean update downloaded. I am wondering whether to update or not - will there be any problems?

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

I am looking for a cheap tablet cover - soft one - something like this - http://www.ebay.in/itm/7-Inch-Tablet...-/160963492806

What kind of shops have something cheap like this? I think Croma etc carry expensive accessories. I am looking for something to just put the tablet in when done with it. Not planning to carry it out of the house.

I went ahead and ordered 'Nexus 10' 16GB tablet. Hope to receive the same within a week. Already, there is a talk of new 'Nexus 10' around holiday season and this time Asus would be making the new 'Nexus 10'.

Is 8" a firm requirement? @ 16k there is Nexus 7 32GB wifi + 3G on Flipkart. I feel that's a really good deal.

I would suggest you go for Nexus 7.

Thanks Harshal Well its not too firm a requirement but I already have a 7" reliance 3g tab. 10" iPad is bit too big for me. Yes Nexus is the last resort and VFM in my opinion too.

This seems to be getting good reviews for its build quality and better graphics than the nexus 7
