First it was Endevour All Terrain and now Figo!!

This is why its hard to believe any reports about the launch from sites such as motoroids. Not sure how did Topgear conjured up the Ecosport launch on 4th March.

Either the media is a part of building up the frenzy or Ford is simply teasing us and building excitement.

Ford is not teasing anyone or for that matter building excitement - it is the lack of credible information that is feeding the gossip mill and speculation. Ford issues standard industry comments but it is the excitement among people who construe this as "teasing us"

In my view, Top Gear India just lost all respect!! I would NOT bother their reports now on!

Lets put it as OVER-excitement of the people, shall we?!

Ford is NOT doing anything wrong; it's the industry practice to keep such vital information confidential. And more over, we had ample info (on the forum) of a Mar 3rd week launch and Apr 3rd week deliveries (from multiple sources). This was the first time most of the reports were pointing to the exact same time frame regarding launch / deliveries. If only people could hold onto their excitement!

Here is the update on TopGear site

Update: Ford has denied that the EcoSport will be launched on March 4 as reported earlier on this website. The vehicle is scheduled for a launch in the next coming weeks. Company is waiting to finalise price post budget recommendations. Watch this space. - Ashish Masih

Sigh......Yet another dud news on the launch date, and you would think being on TopGear, for once it was credible.
So, the wait continues. Guess the march 18th date spoken about earlier is the next nearest bet

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

I won't be surprised if Ford is sponsoring these articles just to ensure that the excitement continues. Is it a matter of chance that within last 2 weeks a top journalist from Auto car talks about 5 lac pricing on his show and now TopGear comes up with a launch date?

Seeding on social media, paying publications for PR news, running bloggers program is a common phenomena. Ford has possibly played the right cards to ensure that people don't move to Duster and instead wait a bit longer.

I think you didn't notice the changed headline. It now conveniently says "Ford EcoSport will arrive mid-March". I am surprised they have not pulled down the original article which talks about 4th March.

http://www.topgear.com/india/car-new...arch/itemid-50

I also wanted to point out the impact of budget on pricing dynamics. With increase of 3% excise duty on SUVs from 27% to 30%, Duster all of a sudden becomes more expensive. The base version of Duster petrol, that currently has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 7.59 lacs in Delhi, will now cost Rs. 7.92 lacs, an increase of Rs. 23k. So if Ford was to launch base version of Ecosport at Rs. 5.99 lacs there would be a difference of Rs. 1.93 lacs.

This now makes me a bit nervous as I feel Ford will eventually launch Ecosport in the 6 lacs bracket.

Methinks Ford will wait for Formal inaguration of Ecosport plant by TN Chief Minister. She would be mighty cheesed off if they did not show her this basic courtesy after fixing the inaguration at her hands.

So looking forward to the CM's visit. It was supposed to be in mid March wasn't it?

According to GTO, Duster will not be affected by the excise hike as it was placed under 24% bloc (>4 metres and <1.5 L engine). The excise hike is most probably for UV's from the 27% bracket (>4 metres and >1.5 L engine) like the scorpio, innova et al.

Keep clicking thanks instead of quote !

The Duster Petrol will fall into this category with its 1.6L engine, but I don't think it has very many takers in the first place.

The Ecosport should in all probability start the petrol SUV craze with all the buzz around the Ecoboost... when it launches that is..!

There will be no price impact on diesel version as it has a 1.5L engine but there will be an impact on petrol version which has a 1.6L engine.

The article you shared rightly says no impact on cars <4 meters in length and with <1.2L petrol or <1.5L diesel engines. In case of Duster, its petrol version is > 4 meters and it has a > 1.2L engine.

Mailer invite for 4th March event confirming Figo Celebration Edition.

In the 24% bracket, the petrol engine capacity considered is 1.5L, NOT 1.2L. The 1.2L is for small / compact cars which also come under 4m length. Since Duster's petrol engine is a 1.6L, it falls in the 27% bracket (instead of 24% bracket) and will now be taxed at 30% compared to 24% for diesel (as it is a 1.5L engine).
