Yes. It's a welcome move. I think 170mm ground clearance should help i20 surely. And another key change is the dimension of the car itself. The width has gone up to 1734 mm from 1710 mm. making it another wide body. (Already it was on higher side)

Wheelbase 2570 mm from 2520 mm. hoping for better ride quality assuming they didn't leave the (soft) suspension in same old levels leaving the occupants thrown from side to side.

Any idea if they did some tuning to reduce engine lag?

I think will wait for initial reviews and then decide between xcent, i20 elite and Polo.

Re: SCOOP Pics! 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India *UPDATE* Now launched @ 4.8

Hi all! I had read reports on ours and some other forums that this i20 was being developed and tested for being a driver's car (read: better steering feedback and not too soft a suspension set-up). Any idea about this aspect guys? Anybody already done with a test drive? I'm just loving Sportz (O) feature wise !

Re: SCOOP Pics! 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India *UPDATE* Now launched @ 4.8

Double face-palm for the advertisement, it cannot get any cheesier and non-descriptive than that. Trust them to double the cheese quotient for the Asian audience apart from not showing a single virtue of the car. Hyundai is playing a very cunning game by (as usual) topping the highest variant with necessary safety features (rear washer & wiper, rear adjustable headrests etc) which will cost very less to provide across the range. The withdrawal of 60:40 split in lower variants is another blow. Prices are quite sane, but factor in the average discount of 20k+ in the prev model and suddenly you can see the price surge.

Anyway for those of you interested in how it drives, I am planning to take a drive (curiosity) in about 2 days, so expect a 'driving' oriented post by Thursday where I'll try my best to explain the steering, suspension and engine tune of the car.

Era & Magna come with 14 inch wheels, while the other variants come with 16 inch wheels. I expected the difference in Fuel Efficiency to be much higher!

Despite the 2" difference in wheel size, the difference in tyre width is only 10mm (one size up), as the lower variants get 185/70R14 tyres and the higher ones get 195/55R16 ones. I think the real difference would be felt in the ride quality.

As there is not much difference in the overall diameter of the tyres for the different variants (614.6mm for the 14" & 620.9mm for the 16" tyres) or in GC (~ 3mm), I guess the ride quality on the lower variants would be more cushy thanks to the increased sidewall height of the 14" tyres. Unless of course, Hyundai have tuned the springs & dampers slightly differently for the variants.

Re: SCOOP Pics! 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India *UPDATE* Now launched @ 4.8

International variant of the i20 is longer:

Quote:
On the outside, the European i20 gets LED-infused projector headlamps, a sportier front bumper, different alloy wheels and reflectors on the rear bumper. The top-end variant will also get a panoramic sunroof with tilt capability as an option. Except for the reflectors, none are available in India.

Specification wise, the European i20 measures 4,035 mm in length, whereas the Indian model measures 3,985 mm in length. However, both European and Indian variants feature the same wheelbase at 2,570 mm which is 45 mm longer than the outgoing model. The European model gets a 320 liter boot.

Wasn't the steering adaptive parking assist already available on the previous gen i20?

Nope. The guide lines on the rear camera's display remain straight when turning the steering on the earlier generation car. The new generation one gets the lines on the electro-chromic IRVM to reflect the steering angle.

But the point BunnyPunia made was not about this feature. It's a completely different (& new) one.

The MID on the instrument console seems to graphically remind the driver of the steering position. I don't know when it would get activated though.

This is the "steering position reminder" feature on the MID (which is completely different from the "steering adaptive parking assist" on the electrochromic IRVM):

Well car's awesome and all, but dual airbags? What was Hyundai thinking? I was looking to replace the Verna and buying a car for the school run, with the best safety, and was expecting the i20 to be my choice. This decision made me have second thoughts. Most people won't be bothered by this and the car will still be a good seller, I think.
Disappointed

Okay, then the European car is longer but comes with the same tail lamps as Indian car. so the car spotted in Europe few months ago with different set of tail lamp was just a prototype. seems like they have made common design to all versions.

I did not want to get into oneupmanship but I do not know how have proved your point. From the Hyundai website
"Steering Adaptive Parking Guidelines Display
The rear camera parking guidelines are steering angle sensitive & curve as per the steering position to precisely guide the vehicle during complex congested parking space."
Isn't this exactly what I said?
