Perhaps that's because the Ecosport is a little cramped (the i20 definitely has better seating at the rear). Anyway jokes apart, the rear ac vent is there to quickly and more effectively disperse air of whatever temperature, throughout the cabin so that people sitting behind don't feel stuffy when the people in front roll their windows up and turn on the aircon

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it LED position lights for Santa Fe which runs along the top part of the head lamp. I think T Bhp review of Santa Fe clearly shows it. In that case it would be same for new i20 too right. So DRLs are probably missing on i20 just like Santa Fe?

To add more info, a look at the Registration Plates indicates that the car is registered at Groß-Gerau(GG) in Germany, meaning it is from the Rüsselsheim Design Centre (Rüsselsheim lies in district Gross-Gerau)!

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

I'm quite excited to see the new i20 and how it is going to be positioned within the line-up. Am currently in the market for a premium hatch or a sedan depending on my mum. I hate the names Hyundai is giving their cars. Grand i10, Elite i20 !?!?!?

On paper the outgoing i20 Sportz and Gi10 Sportz had a difference of 1L, and the Gi10 and Xcent also have a similar price difference in their the top models. I honestly don't know how Hyundai plans to accomodate the Gi10, Xcent and Ei20 all together. Because, majority of the janta would prefer a compact sedan over a i20 no, at a similar price point? I imagine, its a win-win for Hyundai- retaining prospective customers within the stable. It'l be interesting to see how they market the Ei20 vs it's siblings. In diesel of course, the i20 would have the upper hand.

The 1.2L in the Ei20 may spoil the party as far as the petrol i20 is concerned. The Verna 1.6 SX petrol will be within striking distance of the Ei20 Asta 1.2, after factoring in the 50-60k of discounts, it works out to 9L or lower on road. (Like for an additional 1.5-2L over a top spec petrol Ei20 approx)

The automatic i20 sold in the Asta trim in the 1st gen, then in the Sportz trim in the facelift for the same price. I think they wouldn't have been able to price it strategically. The 1.4L Gamma wasn't cheap. Also, they have the AT Gi10 and Xcent in their line-up and if rumours are to be believe a diesel AT coming up too.

As far as the Asta(O) trim in the i20 was concerned. It was extremely well equipped. Sunroof, 6 airbags and all round discs was well worth the difference over the Asta in my opinion. However, they were built on order and had longer waiting periods and lesser discount. It didn't sell as well as it should have.

I am very glad to see ABS and atleast a single airbag being offered on 3 out of 5 variants on offer. They have equipped the variants well. The Sportz sans the alloy wheels looks like good value for money. The interiors look bloody good! and quality of plastics and stuff would be top notch

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Motoroids.com has shared a quick review of the upcoming Elite i20 which it received from one of its reader. Just wondering as to how come so many people are getting easy access to this new car before its launch. Don't know if Hyundai is intentionally trying to drive buzz and awareness about the product.

Seems so, since even in the teaser campaigns they have started, they are showing the picture of picture that confirm the leaks:

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Lots of pictures. E i20 definitely a heart winner. Very nicely looking. Hyundai is definitely taking many elements from German cars, but they are good in doing it perfectly. In professional arena, everyone benchmarks and chases the best things in competitors and incorporates the same or better element in their product. What I like about Hyundai is, they are improving their vehicles each time when a refresh rolled out and not just equipment lists. For example, this time they actively tested the i20 in Nurgburgring to improve handling as reported in http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...g-india-3.html
In contrast, market leader Maruti stays the same, retains their signature characters but many a times failed to enthuse motorheads in broader sense by not improving the nittie gritties.

Well well! The inspiration from BMW is not limited to interiors alone!
The headlamp design has quite a bit of resemblance to the previous gen 5 series -->

I truly hope that in the process of making the i20 more "European", they've sorted out the handling characteristics.

I think the headlight is inspired by Santa Fe SWB and LWB.

Sorry to disappoint, the new car won't have DRLs. Saw the car inside out in flesh and the top portion (eye lids) of the new car have a whitish bar running across the top end of the headlamp. But thats about it, they don't light up and aren't DRLs

Pricing of the new car kind of confirmed by the GM of a respected Hyundai Showroom in Mumbai. The top end ASTA CRDI will cost 9.25-9.35L On-Road Mumbai.

The old car in similar ASTA CRDI trim sold for 9.10L On-Road Mumbai. Hence the difference in pricing between the old and the new car is kind of negligible.

Cheers

Some more pics of the new 'Elite' I20.

As an owner of one of the first i20 crdi's sold in india, I'm frankly disappointed with the new car.

Hyundai as far as I'm concerned, has been losing the plot with the i20 after the initial days.

My '09 Asta O has 6 airbags, sunroof and all wheel disc brakes, all of which are missing on the new car.

Another thing I noticed is that build quality, especially plastics and fabrics, in the recent cars has come down drastically compared to the first batch cars.

The 6 speed gearbox seemed more like a marketing gimmick to me, compared to the older 5 speed which is way better to drive .

The only welcome change I see in the new car is the rear ac vent, which is very essential in the i20 since it has pretty poor ac performance, compared to even lesser hatches like the figo.

But on a flip side, I'm shocked that hyundai has taken off rain sensing wipers and DRL's on the new car, when the last gen had them.

Hyundai has missed another opportunity to bring out a diesel AT which is disappointing.

I really do hope that they have done something about the very deep and heavy clutch on the diesels though. That is the only reason why I'm seriously looking at a replacement for my car, which otherwise I feel is the best hatch around

They don't light up? I thought they must be parking lights!

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Looks like the new i20 follows the Grand i10, Xcent and the facelifted Verna, to do away with the 'HYUNDAI' badging on the boot-lid.

That blackened C pillar looks a bit odd to my liking. Blends with the rear windshield quite well but IINM that's a plastic insert and not the sheet metal painted black?

Then it means there is no rear quarter panel. Which means the running board panel is not connected with rear quarter panel and I also see a cut where front wheel arch starts. So running board is separate form the front portion also. Then the roof is also a different part. All these parts are combined part in most of the cars coming today.

So in case if running board gets damaged then no need to replace the whole portion. Similarly in case of other related panels get damaged, no need to replace the full side panel. This will save from heavy repairing bills in case one wants to get the job done at the A.S.S. once initial insurance periods of low depreciation or 0% dep benefit are over.

If its so then its good move.

Why is the rear view camera mounted in such an odd contraption while is was so perfectly flush mounted underneath the 'H' logo on the current version?
