re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

I had reserved my comments about this car till I saw sufficient pictures in as many colors as possible.

Now that production ready official images are out, the car looks underwhelming, especially the front. How difficult was it to design new headlamps? The Swift headlamps looks so very out of place on this and completely spoils what could have been an aggressive looking front end. Rest of the car is quite good.

Suzuki isn't doing great worldwide and designing such half-hearted attempts will lead them down even further.

Bumped into a camouflaged Baleno hatch in Gurgaon.

Observations
  • Maruti Romeo minus the shield grille
  • The car has a terrific presence on road, it is sooooper wide with a long hood.
  • Side looks meaty with nice set of wheels (not sure if same wheels would be provided for India model)
  • Good GC as most Maruti vehicles, went over some massive gurgaon speedbreakers with ease.
  • Projector headlamps with DRL
  • Expect massive boot space.
  • Acceleration was more like of a petrol variant.
  • Right brake light wasn't functioning.

OH Man, that does look super wide, I mean, compare that to the Verna in the front or the Wagon R in the pictures. I bet this will be a blockbuster like the Creta from the word go.

Man, thats an awesome scoop. And it indeed looks like Indian version as I don't see the steering from the left window in the last pic. And as you said, the alloys are really better looking and will compliment the Baleno in proportion (this saved approx. 25K for the future owners )

But nothing is sure till MSL launches it

The car is super wide and low and looks good.
Tail lamps appear to LED not sure though?
Tyres appear to be skinny may be due to the width of the car.
antenna is short and gels well with the car.

Did you infer Petrol version because of ordinary acceleration? What a sad state our market is in for petrol-heads like me..

I didn't say " Ordinary".
Anyways, its an assumption based on linear acceleration, I didn't peak in or drive it.

The New Baleno is wider than Ciaz. ( #136)

Ciaz width is 1730mm while the Baleno is 1,745mm.

Here is the close up of alloys - same is on the display car( some variant)at the Frankfurt Motor show.

Wow that looks quite wide and big for a hatch. It almost looks similar size as SCross but of course SCross is beyond the 4 m mark. The width here definitely makes a difference to make it look bulkier.

Has anyone noticed that huge C pillar? It probably will have quite a chunky blind spot. They could have easily accommodated a quarter glass there and had a D pillar which can reduce the blind spot and also make it more ventilated and airy.

Will have to wait and watch until it's released in India to exactly know what the Indian version will offer.

I don't think that that is the case. If you remember, the Sx4 also had only one back brake light to show it's breaks. I think this is an European concept. I own a Sx4. It also has only one brake light. Since, this car is a global car, I think they will keep it this way only.

Are those rear disk brakes in the last Pic?

I wish the grill is same for the Indian version. Double chrome slats are a no no here!

I guess you are referring to reverse light or rear fog light. SX4 has one reverse light and rear fog light, but rear brake lights are both functional while braking. So I guess here it must be because of a malfunctioning tail light that the brake light was not functioning.
