Thanks for this, my friend. I don't think 16 inchers are consistent throughout the Baleno range. The lesser variants (Sigma and Delta) get 15 inchers.

I'll be the happiest to be proven wrong here. If they indeed are 16 inchers, it is sheer brilliance on MSIL's part!

I think one of the key reasons for this killer pricing of Baleno is the debacle of S-Cross. If Baleno did not do well, Nexa concept would have a hard time surviving. Maruti took no chances and priced Baleno lower than expectations to ensure success.
I expect this pricing to be introductory and some increases once the product is well established.

Any idea if the Projectors have HIDs or not?

Anyways, the car with this pricing reminds me of Door's song -'.. there is a killer on the road'.

In case the waiting period can be accommodated, MS Baleno would prove to be a better choice.
Thanks Mate; your ownership thread of the Aspire is one of the reasons I fell in love with the Aspire!!

I loved my TD as well of the Aspire; so it will be a decision between heart and head for me soon!

Thanks for your comment!

re: Next-gen Suzuki Baleno (YRA) unveiled. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.99 lakhs

Maruti has hit many birds in one shot, that is what I will say with this pricing. Simply mouth watering pricing. Diesel is on higher side and they are clearly charging premium here of 30-40 K. But with ARAI figure of 27.3* kmpl, I am sure lot of buyers will get attracted to it for sure and Maruti wants to cash it. As a company they will do it, its logical, ethical and legal as well

This is best possible option for cars like Jazz & i20. This will hit them hard, very hard in fact. Actually this pricing will make sure that it will compete with cars like Swift, i20 Elite, Jazz, Figo, Polo, i10 Grand. Only thing I am not sure is how they are going to sell this car in tier II and III cities where Nexa outlets are not there but lots of people willing to buy. Will they supply through existing dealers? Or user has to buy through Nexa only?

+1

Now swift looks overpriced for the features offered and MS has ensured that the customers never go out of their showroom.

Guess there might be a change in buying trends.

1. Looking for Alto twins, throw WagonR/Celrio with discounts
2. Looking for WagonR/Celerio, throw Swift with lots of discounts.
3. Looking for Swift, check out the New Baleno

I think it will dent the numbers of i20 but not by much. Ford Figo and Jazz are in trouble now..!

For that to happen, you will actually have to go to another showroom altogether

GREAT PRICING!!

Hats off Maruti. Only thing I hope now is a higher powered engine in a Baleno Sports. Turbojet, K14 anything. But Please.

After S Cross I believe this is a step in right direction. A premium Maruti is the way to go and I believe Maruti has proved here that Premium may not necessarily be only in the pricing.

Get a 1.4 K series tuned for performance or a 1.0 L Boosterjet and I would not mind buying one.

The pricing as mentioned by everyone here is excellent.
They have room to price the 1.0 boosterjet version very well too. Given the Kerb weight of the Baleno, the 1.0 Boosterjet should be a hot hatch from Maruti Suzuki.

How come Maruti is able to price Baleno with all essential safety features at the current price point? Is Baleno lower variant a loss leader or are the competitors making a killing with their price (especially i20- which offers no safety at all) ?

Precisely summed up!
With the rise of the Kwid, Alto twins (800 especially) will go on sale. Though Kwid itself cannot cause any damage in sales of Alto, due to its low production output, showrooms that are not managed properly, poor after sales support etc, but the sheer quality of product that Renault has offered has indeed overthrown the Alto as a VFM product!
Hence those who will want Alto 800/K10, would want more from it, due to Kwid effect, but unsatisfied, the buyers would look at WagonR, which is available at discounts!
Next, the dealers would not probably upsell Celerio to those who are looking for WagonR, but instead, they would try to push the Swift itself, with offers!
Celerio would cater to only AT buyers on low budget.
Swift buyers now can look at the Baleno.
With Baleno's launch, I think the competition between Maruti & Hyundai will change as follows:
Swift vs Grand i10
Baleno vs Elite i20
Dzire vs Xcent.

It would be good for the buyers that there will be many good products available on offer this festive season!

To get an idea, we should think about the margins they are getting in a Swift.

Ritz VXi, after discounts was selling at around 4.5L
At the same time, the similarly spec'ed Swift VXi was selling at 5L. That is a clear 50K margin for Swift.

Now, consider Ritz VXi at 4.5L. We can add a 50K for the extra size and safety features.

So, it is possible - but with a lesser margin than Swift!

Usually we have seen some manufacturers price their cars obscenely just based on brand value (read Honda) and some on Success and newness (read Hyundai).

Maruti came in late here and wants the segment back and 99% localisation might be talking the price here. Maruti usually loves to do business in high volumes and that could be another reason why they might have priced it really low. However, one should be careful about selecting the "Sigma" variant although a good value it still requires careful evaluation of features it misses out. I am suggesting this variant to people who have recently booked Renault KWID top variant

There can be no comments about the pricing though! A shocker in a different way.
