And lastly, we call Tata / Mahindra cars UGLY without hesitation but in case of other revered brands, it's always "looks are subjective". Why this bias?
Even in the current form and variant I would prefer this over the TUV300 any day. This car looks like a more rounded package.

Regarding UGLY looks (if that was for me), I don't give a second thought while calling a BMW 7 series as ugly, let alone other brands. "Looks are subjective" because it's my opinion and I don't any want to accept or repute it.

re: The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh

A simple change in tail lamp positioning makes it look better.

Like this in Grand Vitara

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh-marutisuzukigrandvitaraexteriorssideview620x330.jpg

Or they could have just stretched the TUV 300 without any design changes to the rear

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh-tuv-lwb.jpg

The TUV 300 is a spacious 5 seater with good ergonomics (considering M&M) and a neat dash layout, the 300 plus would be a practical 7 seater with best in class 3rd row space. The Scorpio is cramped in all 3 rows and is ergonomically flawed and with the mHawk 120, 300 plus is much better than the scorpio unless one wants a stylish SUV.

re: The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh

The rear doors' slanting design never appealed to me. Kinda took away the boxy feel of the TUV. But the short length and relative compactness of the TUV300 design made it okay.

The TUV300 Plus?. The extra length brings out the ugly slant of the rear door more prominently.

This makes me feel that the Tuv300 Plus would turn out to be "okay" atleast in the higher variants.

P.S. Maybe the tyres being small. The side profile reminds me eerily of an Reva e20

The more Tata improves, the more Mahindra recedes. I believe even this would be a success, although it looks worse than a Sumo Gold. Design is not a consideration for most rural and semi urban car buyers. The TUV looked nice and mature. This one looks like it was designed by a local contractor who makes the loading bay for trucks. Many independent car modifiers can do a better job.

I am sure that Mahindra would launch this with lots of chrome, a dual tone roof and a touch screen infotainment system, and because it has a spare at the back, people would say this is a "real SUV" unlike well designed cars like the Hexa. That's why we get badly designed cars- because consumers tolerate them and make it worthwhile for companies to make them.

Nice photoshopping. And while you were at it you could have added wheel-cladding and nice alloy and beefy high-profile tyre and that would have give us a general idea as to how the top variant would look. I hope they dicth 3-cylinder unit and go for 1.9 4-cyl and big wheels.

That's a very good looking Photoshop edit! It's so much more proportionate and butch compared to that monstrosity designed by the company. It actually looks like a jeep.
Problem is though, the designers must've been given restrictions with respect to wheelbase, length, etc. Especially wheelbase, that way they can use the same chassis on both vehicles and reduce manufacturing costs.
Another example of effing commerce/business-mindedness depriving us of a good product.

re: The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh

I think the camera has skewed the image a bit. I tried to make some changes in a camouflaged version, and it looks a little better somehow. The only addition I did, was to blacken the B pillar, which, I hope, should be there in higher spec variants.

Here it is! Another crude attempt, with TUV Explorer's claddings.

re: The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh

Well, i think seeing the base model is what is making it look bad to many. However, the bigger questions still remain?
  • Still side facing seats for the 3rd row? or do we get front facing?
  • Clearly the wheelbase is longer and so are the overhangs but, how much is it going to be converted into meaning interior space, especially if we are getting front facing. How much length has the vehicle grown (along with the weight) is still in the dark.
  • If it is indeed getting the 1.9L over the 3-cycl 1.5L with 120hp, will we be getting an AMT or 5/6 speed auto (if they decide to launch with auto)?
  • How much of a price increase do we expect over the existing TUV300.
  • and finally How soon are they going to launch?

Thank you. Now, it really is a looker. A big wheel hanging out back as spare would really complete the butch look. I love boxy SUVs. Not at all a fan of curvy crossovers which I feel are neither here nor there. I hope it has at least 1.9 L engine and comes with AT/AMT at launch. I want to pick one of the three-- this, New Scorpio and Nexon. But if I pick Nexon, it will be a compact mini-SUV devoid of butch looks. So, it's between two Mahindras and one Tata. Most probably between the two Mahindras.

This is the image I always had in mind when I saw the camouflaged TUV300 Plus, why didn't M&M designer's just do this simple job. This looks much better. Good job mate.

Few people are liking the TUV300 Plus the way it is more than TUV300, no offense meant to you guys. May be if I see the top spec I might like the looks.

re: The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh

Side profile....OMG! I seriously hope what I see in that picture is not what it is in real! Hideous design and proportions. Spending hundred of crores and this is what they can do? Chinese are doing a better work in the design or at least their recent designs are not offending anyone! Seriously M&M? Now XUV looks far better or for that matter TUV300 is surely better. Hope I get to see a better vehicle in person or may be the black colored fittings are doing this trick.

I think it will be a 3+3+3 version to achieve 9 seats. They've already done it in KUV.

From Autocar:

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus, as reported by us earlier, gets a 120hp, 1.99-litre engine. This is the same motor that is available exclusively on the Mahindra Scorpio sold in the Delhi-NCR region. There are talks of Mahindra offering a 2.2-litre diesel variant too.
