That sounds like a petrol engine. The tachometer values are high too. Am I mistaken?

The sticker on the windshield says that it's a diesel MT. Also, I haven't seen many Diesel cars with 7K.

Why are there two gear shift levers?

Not the usual. Same R,1,2,3,4,5 is replicated. Strange.

Must be a Jugaad situation for the test Vehicle. Test vehicle prep team must've used the same gear knob for both levers. I can't imagine any other explanation.

That is just the gear knob.It could show anything. You could even have the attached pic etched on it. I am sure some one in China is already offering this service.

That makes sense. It's a regular stick shift knob stuck on the transfer case lever.

Have a look at the video below for some up-close views of the camouflaged Thar.

New Thar is a stunner. I won't be surprised if it's almost as good as Wrangler itself, even in absolute terms without adjusting for the canyon-wide price difference. I say this because Wrangler, under Fiat, is reportedly reduced to a pale shadow of its former self. It's not my opinion. This seems to be the general consensus among automotive folks and journos in US of A.

Since, this car is peerless and the next stop, the real deal Wrangler, is 65 lakhs away, Mahindra can easily afford to throw in a proper torque converter AT and goodies like push-button start , ACC, LED lights up front and back etc. and still come away looking like bargain basement. Heck, they can dip their Thar in gold and sprinkle diamond dust and still sell at a less price. Ok, that was an exaggeration but you get the picture, right?

You are spot on. The only fly in the ointment is the 3 door issue. Whatever said and done it will be probably the 2nd or 3rd car in the household. So pricing it at a big premium won't do any good.

I am thinking it would come out between 12 and 15 L ex showroom.

Thanks to Anubhav B for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Caught the new Mahindra Thar (heavily camouflaged) being tested on the roads of Himachal Pradesh.

The vehicle was doing well on the broken roads and could easily tackle tough corners at high speeds. It seems it is miles ahead in handling as compared to the existing Thar. It had company personnel inside with all the measurement gizmos attached to the vehicle. The vehicle was being escorted by a Mahindra pickup and a Xylo.

It is wider and way more stable than the outgoing model.

The vehicle definitely seems to have a much better stance and stability.

I wonder when will they launch given that they are still testing it all over the country. Doesnt seem to be coming anytime soon. Perhaps a late Q2 launch.
