I guess the pictures for the Royal Gold color will be royally late!

Looking forward to the detailed reviews to help answer a few questions:

1. The side-hinged tailgates usually end up rattling in the long run. Has the engineering team done anything significant on the tailgate hinges?

2. Is the rear visibility better or worse than the XUV7OO?

3. How is the ease of taking a U-Turn (=radius+visibility+steering) compared to the XUV7OO?

4. Is the 4Xplor terrain selection feature worth it? Is it the better option for beginners in offroading? If it is raining heavily post sunset and I must continue travel on a broken road to reach the hotel I booked, will the setting of terrain=mud help?

5. What is the best speed to drive with a family of 5, luggage and with a zero music volume on a good highway stretch? This is to be evaluated with respect to sleeping passengers' comfort i.e. the dynamics and NVH only, ignoring fuel efficiency.

Such a lovely vehicle, just perfect for those long excursions into the mountains, and 57 lit of fuel tank capacity! Imagine the no. of fuel stops required for someone driving a Petrol AT Scorpio-N

Totally agree. I have a New Thar diesel auto and it has the same 57 litre fuel tank. Driving at a good consistent speed ranging around 110-115 kph on TN highways, I get barely 11 kpl and a safe tank range of around 600 km before I need to refuel. Being heavier by a couple of hundred kgs and having a higher power tune (175 vs 130 hp), I think the ScorpioN could drop to 9 kpl at such speeds. This would limit the safe range to only around 475 km or so, before one is forced to refuel. A car of this size with 4WD deserves a 70 Litre fuel tank.

My 2 cents :

1. Prices bit higher than expected. I expected ex-showroom 20 lakh for top-end diesel AT AWD. Clearly it won't be less than 22 lakh.

2. However, for the tech on offer, the price is actually still disruptive.

3. They are targeting T-fort, sorry won't happen. Most T-fort buyers are paying for brand name & assumed bullet proof reliability. But Innova shall take a beating for sure.

4. Dangerous times ahead for Tata twins (will be most affected in my opinion).

5. XUV700 shall stand its ground. Both of these are excellent vehicles. Anyone confused between the two should go for XUV, since most niggles from initial production shall be more or less sorted.

6. Thar might see sharp dip in sales, quite naturally.

7. All crossovers should now see reduced waiting. If Mahindra can produce 10K/month, some may even see discounts by next year.

8. Everything else from all other manufacturers seem super expensive now (except KIA Carens).

9. I will book myself a 2WD-AT (Variant to be decided later). I don't really need a full blown SUV like this one. But if I am getting a 4 BHK cheaper than a 3 BHK, why not?

I wonder what made them delete the 50:50 split option in 3rd row. With that kind of a boot space, they should have given it.
Infact, lack of 50:50 split and very less boot space is making me think twice before cancelling my Carens booking.

Also, don't understand the logic of not giving Z6 option, MT and AT both, in Petrol. That would have been the most VFM option.

Can someone post the colour pallet of the Scorpio N please? What is the Grand Canyon colour? Something like dark yellow/ sand colour or Orange type colour? Is there any photograph available?

Is it just me or based on the pictures it seems like the Scorpio's interior is actually better than the Fortuner! Moreover, with the new 175 hp diesel engine, it's probably closer in terms of power and performance as well. Offcourse, this is certainly not a threat for the Fortuner, the Toyota has its buyers no matter what but the fact that the Scorpio is comparable at half the prices is really something!

Reached dealership when the party was over. Good part was no rush and tired SA, which meant i could have a peaceful look and feel of the vehicle.
Pros
- It's huge in proportion
- Commanding driving position as if you are positioned to maul down everyone on the road
- Seats are big and comfy, lots of space to make adjustment
- Good enough space to move into 3rd row, but seating there for long is not welcoming
- Top of line variant tyre can be replaced by BF KO2 265/60, wheel wells have good space maybe to accomodate 285 as well
Cons
- Interior quality i found inferior to the image of the vehicle but when looked in conjecture of price it's acceptable. Hence Mahindra pls don't compare this with Fortuner.
- Couldn't figure out recline function for 2nd row
- Third row full tumble eats up lot of usable space, fortuners' split sideway tuck up is way more efficient in space management
- Without listening, the quality of speaker set is poor observing by look through mesh

Z8L pricing over Z8 is a bad joke.
I do not see any reason for not disclosing prices of AT and 4X4 other than testing how much people are ready to pay up for it

Thats because the Thar has the aerodynamics of a brick.

I believe this should easily give you mileage below the xuv700 but above the thar.

That's exactly what I'm happy about. If 235 Section tyres as in XUV700, it would have been difficult to find suitable tyres to upgrade. 265/60R18 is a common size and most AT tyres models are available in this size. Can down size to 265/65R17 as well if willing to change the rims.

Ground clearance if at 187 mm seems low for a 4X4.

Any idea about water wading depth it can handle?

EDIT: Royal Gold and Grand Canyon colours were seen on the Pre-production XUV7OOs, but were not present on the production car. Looks like these colours are making it to the Scorpio N, but I miss a blue in the new Scorpio!

The new Scorpio N seems fo be a good refresh to Mahindra's iconic car (though the previous generation Scorpio is bound to stay in market for some more time).

Pricing is decent, but yes limited amount of users alone will benefit if their lucky stars align. With both XUV700 and New Scorpio N appealing, it might be a very tempting buy especially among Politicians , VIP security convoys etc.

However while the variant spread for MT variants were good , couple of things did confuse me and some things felt compromised/ could have been taken care better:

1. Is petrol exclusive only for Z2 variant? Because successive variants atleast had the diesel engine options listed.
2. 8.0 inch Touch infotainment felt small for a car this massive.
3. Manual 4WD differential locking could have been provided as an option from Z4/Z6 variants atleast ( I am quite not sure if the aforementioned variants have electronic differential locking mechanism).
4. Second row 60:40 split seat didn't feel useful. The tumble mechanism for the left side seat seemed well made ( saw on one of the YouTube videos) , whereas the right side seat barely folded .

Overall I feel this might once again have more bookings and with Mahindra's past experiences during the times when they got overwhelming response to Thar and XUV700 , I am not sure how are they going to manage logistics and communication with end user. And moreover the price for first 25000 users exclusivity does seem unfair. I wish Mahindra took an opportunity to keep the prices for atleast 6 months.

So true!

They should really offer the blue shade. Plus, after the black shade was dropped by most car manufacturers, blue used to be present in their color palette.
