Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

IMO SCORPIO-N looks like modified TUV .. front and side views are attractive. Back view is the weakest among the exterior design.

Pricing is very attractive as expected from MAHINDRA. I hope they deliver without long waiting times. 2 weeks amendment option is nice welcome

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I was super excited about this launch and was in constant touch with my SA handling my XUV 700 booking. The third row space seemed better than the xuv700. But the third row not having a split seat is a bummer. It pretty much rules this car out for anyone who wants to travel with 6 on board and some luggage. Wonder why they could not provide a split seat in the third row!

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Had a quick look at the new Scorpio-N on my way back from office. Many of you have covered most of the aspects, so calling out the key points.

—This Car has massive presence! Surely in the league of the Fortuner and the erstwhile Endeavour. The XUV700 looked a bit smaller in comparison!

—Design is cohesive, no reason to not to like it. It’s big and butch. The only flip side is that it looks a bit like a MUV when viewed from the rear, mostly due to the side opening door.

—Boot space is nothing when all three rows are up, I wish they offered a simple 5 seat option. The third row doesn’t seem to fold flat, so larger boot space may be made redundant due to this.

—Diesel AT displayed, presumably of the Z8 variant, but obviously prices not announced.

—Switch gear on the entertainment system felt good, but other buttons like power windows etc felt sub par.

Do I want one? I don’t know! The size is overwhelming! I don’t need the 6 or 7 seats. But the price value equation, especially at introductory prices is very tempting! A fully loaded Z8 L diesel AT with 4WD may be just around 26 lakhs on road in Bangalore. I don’t see any car in that vicinity except the XUV700!

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Scorpio-N for sure is going to eat into sales of the lower variants of the XUV700. AX5 and below have no major USP now, other that the pano sunroof. With all the advanced suspension tech it seems body roll too will be controlled. It'd be interesting to see how many people end up cancelling their XUV bookings.

1 thing I'm really happy about is Mahindra has thankfully learnt it's lesson and announced allotments as first come first serve instead of the crap algo-based one.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Good pricing, way more aggressive than competitors, though not as aggressive as M&M’s own standard it has set with XUV700, which I had hoped they would beat again. The Z8L Diesel MT is 19.49 lakhs. Add 1.5 lakhs for the 4WD gear and another 1.5L for the Auto transmission and you are looking at top end Diesel AT 4WD costing 22.5 lakhs ex-showroom. As for the XUV700 at the time of its launch, one could get a Diesel AX7L AWD for 22.99 which is much better kitted out with ADAS, full digital instrument + infotainment panel, massive Pano sunroof and various other luxury features.

The Z8 Diesel Auto 4WD is likely to come in at 19.99 and would be my variant of choice, with all essential safety kit and a fair bit of luxury such as passive keyless entry and push button start, those nice brown leatherette seats, dual zone AC etc. Do not need Captain seats and don’t find anything else in Z8L that is so valuable.

Did anyone notice fuel tank capacity? Just 57 lit

Such a lovely vehicle, just perfect for those long excursions into the mountains, and 57 lit of fuel tank capacity! Imagine the no. of fuel stops required for someone driving a Petrol AT Scorpio-N

The new Scorpio is wider than Fortuner, taller and with a longer wheelbase:

METRIC Scorpio vs Fortuner
Length | 4662 vs 4795
Width | 1917 vs 1855
Height | 1857 vs 1835
Wheelbase | 2750 vs 2745

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

With so much happening in the country, these 25000 bookings will consumed in no time, and all the "Chacha Vidhayak Hain" types will account for them. Expecting long queues for the ordinary tax payer folks.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Wow!!! Mahindra hit it out of the park again

Now I can imagine a lot of folks getting confused between XUV7OO and Scorpion. Looking forward to a comparison thread soon.

And yes, people planning to get it in 2023/24 you better book it already as I can imagine another year+ waiting period

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Dear Mods, if you are taking questions for the Scorpio-N review, here are couple of them from my side.
  • Looks like the 3rd row is only hinged at 2 points. For someone like me who seldom uses the 3rd row, is it easy to remove the entire seat and fix it back when needed without too much effort?
  • What is this Watt's link suspension setup and how does it translate to the real world performance compared to the XUV7OO?
  • Headlights performance vs XUV7OO.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Watt’s link suspension is a type of rear suspension. It was present in the Ford Endeavour as well.

Here is some information on it. (Source: Internet)

What is a Watts link suspension?
A watts linkage is a part of the rear suspension. It's used to locate the rear axle laterally underneath the car, while allowing the body of the car to travel vertically. A watts link attaches to the rear axle with a pivot point, then its arms bolt to the body of the car. As the body of the car moves up and down, the pivot point will move up and down, traveling in a line. Since the pivot point is traveling in a line, it keeps the axle located directly under the car.

It is a type of mechanical linkage invented by James Watt in which the central moving point of the linkage is constrained to travel on a nearly straight line. It was described in Watt's patent specification of 1784 for the Watt steam engine.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

So the Z8L variant gets the following over Z8 variant:
Driver Drowsiness Detection;
Front Parking Sensors;
Front Camera;
Sony Audio System;
Wireless Charging;
Driver Powered Seat

Asking for INR 2 Lacs over Z8 for the above is outrageous IMHO. And with Road Tax and Insurance, it will be more like INR 2.5 Lacs on road.
