I don't know if I understood correctly or not.

But as per this video the iMT technology mentioned for the i20 is different than the iMT transmission we get in the Venue in India.

The iMT in the i20 essentially means the coasting function due to the mild hybrid in which the engine function is switched off while for the Venue it is a clutch less manual transmission.

So, I think we shouldn't confuse the two technologies and think that the iMT in the Venue is a tried and tested product.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

It's great to see a car maker taking the Indian market seriously and introducing new models in line with international launches. Unlike Honda and Renault for example. Honda should learn the definition of the word "new" from Hyundai. There have been 3 "new" Jazz's since 2015 and they all look the same!
I'm not a huge fan of Hyundai cars but I must say this new i20 looks smashing. It has definitely upped the game in this segment. Will wait to see which variants are offered. Well done Hyundai.

Spare a thought for the Polo & Vento!

Jokes apart, the Korean's are doing great in India, and it's with good reason.

Hyundai did the same too, before Jazz was launched, i20 was available.

In 2014, Hyundai launched this
Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs-images-2.jpg

In 2015 End/Early 2016, they gave this,
Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs-images-1.jpg

Changes included Projector Headlamps, CVT Option, Black Shade and introduction of new Asta (O) trim which added 6 Airbags. At the same time, many features were deleted from other Trims compared to launch edition.

In 2018 Auto Expo, Hyundai gave us this,

This version had different bumpers and new color options along with choice of all back Interiors.

So, it's not just Jazz, the i20 also went through same and just like you, for me too all these 3 avatars of i20 look the same. Honda could have bought the All New Jazz but we are not getting it.

As a current gen i20 owner, I will agree with you on this aspect. New one looks and feels very good. There will be wide variety of variants on offer. 3 Engine options and 4 Gearbox Options have been confirmed.

I stand corrected. Bottom line is car companies shouldn't officially claim these to be "new" models. The word "Facelift" should be emphasized on more I think. I own a Jazz 2019 vx CVT and love it to death but I'm really sad at the way Honda treats the Indian market. Renault is a perfect example. Offering Dacia models with a Renault badge is just not on. Where is the Clio and the Megane?

Ah yes forgot about them . Just the other day I was looking at the polo and thinking jeez how much longer vw, how much longer are you going to beat that model to death.

My friend (name watermarked) spotted the next-gen i20 near Apollo Hospital, Delhi. According to him, the car looks sleeker than the current gen that's on sale currently.

I seriously want Hyundai to give the option of DCT in the top variant, unlike Venue.

Tata should be worried for Altroz after seeing this. They have the perfect opportunity to fine tune the new turbo petrol engine so as to steal some customers from the Koreans.

I'm in the market for a premium hatchback for the family, which will be an upgrade from Celerio. I'm waiting for the new i20, but if Tata launches the Altroz turbo petrol during that time frame with a properly peppy engine, I'll be more than happy to bring one home.
(P.S. Altroz has 5 star safety rating and everyone in my family likes the looks of Altroz more than i20)

Tata is worried. Prices for the diesel Altroz have been slashed by 40,000 & Tata can't afford to price the turbo petrol much higher than the i20.

Think about the 1st mover advantage Tata missed out on had they launched the turbo petrol right from the start?! Still, better late than never.

Now, Hyundai should do the right thing and launch the i20 with G-NCAP scores to counter the safety quotient. If it manages to get even 4 stars, it would steal customers away from the Altroz.

In the similar price range we also have the Nios Turbo. While it is a size smaller, the Nios turbo does make a case for itself for those cross shopping from a lower segment.

The premium hatchback space is only going to get more competitive. Interesting times ahead.

Any idea if there is going to be a sunroof in the upcoming i20? I think currently Jazz is the only car in this segment to have sunroof.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Is the 2020 i20 slated for an mid-October launch ?
After checking out the new i20 on Hyundai's Europe website, I am in awe of the new design. I particularly hope (though it's unlikely) that we get the same rims as the one in the image. The features it seems to sport surely suggests that we could see a tad bit of jump in prices once it releases.

Scoop! New Hyundai i20 spied alongside old i20 Active

The third generation Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing once again. This time, the car was seen cruising past an old i20 Active, which gives us a chance to do a visual comparison the two cars.

Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs-img5915.jpg

The i20 Active clearly looks slightly taller than the new hatchback, which isn't surprising as the former has raised suspension and is fitted with roof rails. On the other hand, the new i20 sits lower to the ground. This particular test car is equipped with black 5-spoke alloy wheels. The i20 Active is no longer on sale in India.

Last month, a test mule of the new i20 was spotted without any camouflage. The images revealed the car's new front and rear facias as well as its crisp lines.

The new i20 could get the same engine options as the Venue sub-4 meter crossover. It is likely to get a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 1.0-litre, turbo petrol unit which could be offered with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT. Additionally, the car will also get a 1.5-litre diesel engine option. This engine could be offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The third generation i20 could be launched around October 2020.

Thanks to Vinay Khenna for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing them with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Rendered i20 Active by Rushlane. Looks like a mini Creta IMO.

It certainly would look like a mini-creta since the rims they have taken for the render are the 1st gen Creta diamond cut alloy rims.

And for the sides they have taken inspiration from the Kicks or Captur it seems.

I doubt if we will see an Active version of the new i20. The i20 active was originally launched to counter the sub 4m crossovers when Hyundai did not have one. Now that they they have Venue and another group car in the form of the Sonet, there is absolutely no need for the i20 active. Also, the new i20 would surely a bit more expensive than the current one, so an Active version could push the prices even higher, and it would then be within touching distance of the Venue. In fact I do not see the current i20 active listed in Carwale, so may be it has already been stopped.
