Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

^^Full tank to full tank, till the brim will be the most ideal for cars. Reserve to reserve will be the most accurate in bikes. Cars are handicapped in that respect!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Experience from my 2006 Skoda Laura L&K MT 1.9TDI (Diesel) has been largely in the range of 15.8kmpl-16.4kmpl in the city and 23kmpl on the highway which included a good 200+km in the hills up till Mukteshwar. I run the car from full tank to empty to full tank to empty and average out the numbers. The car was giving a lower mileage when it was new, and has progressively maintained the above mentioned fuel efficiency consistently over the past 4+years. I use the normal Diesel (the cheapest one, not the spruced up ones) on all occasions. A quick question, at what point do I need to get the engine de-carbonised? Its clocked over 98000 kms now.

Agreed! Reserve to Reserve works best in bikes. My Santro was quite consistent in showing the first reserve indicator so was kind of expecting the same with Scorpio. Also Santro has LPG, its easy as I had dual fuel, I used to check it empty to empty…

Anyway, Full Tank - Full Tank, only concern I have is the air pocket inside and how consistent the data will be, if its matter of few hundred ml, it would not make much different (I never did it so don't know) but from posts on this thread I read the variance is 2 to 7 liters and that can skew the FE figures.

I will give it a shot for next couple of fills and report back how it goes.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Maruti Alto VXi 1.1, 2003 Model, 14-16 kmpl in moderate traffic with 50% use of AC.
Hyundai i10 (A/T) 1.2 kappa 2007, 14 kmpl in moderate traffic with 100% use of AC.
Chevrolet Captiva 2.0, 2011, 10-11 kmpl in moderate traffic with 100% use of AC.
Honda Accord 2.4 i-VTEC, 2010, 9 kmpl in moderate traffic with 100% use of AC.

The cars are rarely used on open stretches of highway, so not very sure about those figures yet.

Any opinions on how these figures are?

The air pocket will make a difference. Go to Shell since it is less crowded and let them fill till auto cut-off first. Then fill manually till the brim, wait for a minute/give a few shakes till the air burbles out. Top-up till the brim, this time it will stay put.

To err on the side of caution, use the average of three such fills as your FE.
The lowest figures I have ever got by this method are 21.5 for highway and 14.5 for city, so I reckon that as my FE.

Disclaimer: Don't try this at a crowded PSU bunk if you want to avoid verbal abuse!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I have been calculating cumulative FE of my manza QJD for last 6 tank fulls.

Km's driven - 4,087
Total diesel consumed - 215 ltr
Total cost of diesel - rs.8,600

Average FE for last 4,087 km's = 19kmpl. Average fuel cost per km - rs.2.1

Driving pattern in these 4k km's have been 60% highway & 40% city. AC usage around 20%. On an average 2 occupants in the car. Car is about 2 years and 46.5k km's old.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Clocked my highest FE figure this month:

Car: Palio MJD
Fuel: BP
Tank full- tank full method.

FE = 20.5 kmpl, 100% IN-CITY, 25% AC usage.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Fiat Punto Emotion MJD

City : 7.2l/100km approximately 13.5 kmpl
Highway: 6.5l/100km approximately 15.5 kmpl

Both with 100%AC and highway running speeds of around 120.

Awesome Anil. Totally envious. I get max ~14 kmpl in city with 50% AC and around 18-19 on highway.

Fuel deficiency figures of my 1 year old Linea MJD:
Long term average over 1500+ km, all the time with AC on - 15.3 kmpl
City mileage ~ 14 kmpl
Highway ~ 20 kmpl
I drive quite sanely, and exceed 100 kmph only when I'm on very clear roads.
