Given a choice, I prefer Swift 1.3 DDiS. Simple reason being that my Fiat ownership experience for the last 2 years was not very satisfactory - read it as Tata service. So, I switched from Fiat Siena 1.6 to Swift 1.3 DDiS a couple of months back. A couple of gripes about Fiat Palio is that the drivers foot well is very cramped that I could not make use of the foot rest for clutch in my Siena and the other being its high turning radius. Though Swift has a comparatively poor build quality (rattles) and poor rear seat legroom (which I do not use), I can live with them imho.

Infact when I visited Maruti service center last week for my Swift's first service, it did bring smile in my face which never ever happened with the visits to Fiat service centers during the last couple of years.

GetD belongs to Orphans and Widows category. Being the best hatchback-D on many parameters(not on price for sure),it doesn't get good treatment by Hyundai themselves. Not having test drive vehicle speaks for itself.
But that doesn't take aways it goodness,, aint it ?

Since we are talking about best hatch. My vote goes for Getz D on the parameters which are important to me.

This saturday, booked Multijet test drive..

I have driven Multijet Punto in Europe with around 100BHP(94 I think), which was class apart. Lets see how this Multijet which do not have VGT(Variable Geomtery Turbo charger) performs...

cheers

It was worse even before that. Lucky that Tata is putting it back on track.
The way I see is that the whole Fiat experience has become better after the Tata alliance. Atleast that is what I have felt with our FiAT cars.

From the poll it is clear a lot of people like the Palio 1.3 MJD. It is ahead of the Swift DDis by a good 26 votes as I write this. Just writing down the observation. I have not test driven either car, so no comments. Although, I voted for the Palio 1.3 MJD purely on gut feel.

Yes, Far before the car was even launched!
Everybody was doing what you did!

Now that the car is launched, many are voting for the Swift and the gap is closing up!

Palio 1.3 Multijet is a great car but looks ageing.

My bet would be on the new Indica Dicor- Reliability and the Dicor.

Indica Dicor
Dicor & Turbo
Great Leg room
Bad Plastics
Great styling
Great acceleration

Swift DDIS
Turbo & Multijet
Cramped Interiors
Bad Plastics
Nothing fresh
Average

Fiat Palio Multijet
Ageing
Great car
Tata Fiat Stable
Pricey Service

Others. i dont even think considering.

It happened - I fell for the multijet !

I bought my Palio Sport 1.6 petrol 6 months and I am simply in love it. I am not a mean machine racer but use the 1.6 only to pamper myself on some stretches. It has been consistently throwing up12 kms mileage with 50-60% AC usage.Though petrol is getting expensive by the day, I am keeping her on a Shell diet. Before this sounds like a glorified palio self-pampering story, I will slide into the multijet test drive I took a couple of days ago.
My second service for the 1.6 was impeccable this time and I went to the centre to take delivery of the vehicle.I quickly looked around to see if any multijets were around and I spotted 3 of them. Two were test drive cars and I immediately demanded a casual test drive. The car looked no different on ANY aspects from my 1.6 except for the amazing engine inside. The car seemed to take off very similarly to my 1.6! The low end torque seemed pretty good and the speedometer was quickly racing towards the 60 mark. The car did have a slight drag with AC on but that's understandable with a 75BHP engine. The handling and cabin noise was as good as the 1.6.It is supposed to offer a definite 17kms/litre in city conditions ! The spare parts and maintenace were supposed to be pretty even with the petrol but the thumping diesel engine is supposed to open up after 15-20K kms.Being a predominantly city driver , I felt buying the multijet makes immense sense with it's overall cost of ownership being low and the drive experience pretty good. Ofcourse, the 1.6 monster with it's high adrenalin engine is for a segmented few who love their drive, but i felt this car has mass appeal. I just hope FIAT concentrates more on the multijet as they have a winner on their hands ( which they have been very charitably loaning to SWIFT) and phase out the 1.1 petrol metal boxes that they are aggresively pushing.

Giving a second chance, I will go for the Multijet over the 1.6 ! Trust me, it makes immense sense for city drivers. Of course, with a good hike, I will own both of them

My vote for the MultiJet.

Today did TD of both MultiJet and Stile 1.6, my very first ride in a fiat, both as a driver and passenger. First did TD of MJ and then the 1.6. Found the MJ much refined and smooth. Infact the MJ was much quieter the 1.6, but that might just be the TD car. Was a difficult choice between the MJ and 1.6. Planning to buy the MJ SDX.

Did not vote for the following because of the following reasons:
Swift: Cramped interiors. Feel claustrophobic. So irrespective of the engine under the hood, no vote.
Getz: TD not available in either Bangalore or Pune. Price a major concern.
Dicor: Engine not as refined as the MJ.

The above mentioned opinion is based on my personal experience. This is not meant for any bashing.

Does anyone have the sales figures of the Palio MJD as it is already a month since it was launched quietly on 11th March 2008. The TV commercials have seen the light of the day now and it would be nice to have a comparision between the sales figures of the MJD,SWIFT DDIS and the INDICA for the past month only.

one koshun: What rocket science does fiat need to do to get the turning radius in 4.xx m range? The current radius is shamed by Sumo Grande

You know what? I love the feedback and feel of the Fiat steering. So, whenever this talk of reducing the turning radius comes up, I am caught in two minds whether to support the call or not, because if they come up with something that does not have comparable feel, even if the circle is smaller, it will be sad for me. I have quite got used to the huge circle it draws by now and it hardly bothers me now.

I second that demand, one of the most let down factors in the palio is the turning radius! I hope the newer cars from Fiat will have that sorted out.
Another question, how will reducing the turning radius affect handing?
