National Engine or not, this is good news for all the folks waiting for a diesel SX4. Now the state of tune would be interesting. Atleast 120 horses expected...

The highest horses extracted out of 1.3 was around 100 bhp by Lancia.
Moreover, Suzuki is not having license to come up with 90 bhp version of 1248cc motor.
I doubt if really SX4 is coming with a small diesel with 75 bhp.

SX4 has come with atleast 1.6 and 115+bhp to compete appropriately with Verna. Anything under 90 bhp would be underpowered for SX4.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, new SX4 is on drawing boards and is expected to come up in 2012 with 1.6L K-series engine.

The upcoming Toyota Corolla is 88 or 90 bhp, Fiat Linea is 92 bhp then how come 90 bhp would be underpowered for the SX4... it isnt meant to be a sports car or is it?

I dont think Maruti will launch the SX4 with the same engine as the Dzire. I think they will wait till they can have a VW engine fit in the SX4.

SX4 is heavy + not so good at aerodynamics as compared to either Linea or Corolla. Both Corolla and Linea are heavy, but SX4, due to its more practical shape, is not having that good aerodynamics. Apart from weight the aerodynamics will play spoilsport.

I consider Linea underpowered and if corolla is 88-90 bhp, it will be underpowered too. Look at what Verna is. Linea deserves 1.6 diesel, and Corolla has to be competitive.

This is purely my opinion. Also, the 1.3 MJD will not be able to pump out as much torque as a 1.4/1.6. And with just 75 bhp ( if at all 75bhp format of diesel comes out ) format diesels in both Dzire and SX4, will it not be a lot of overlap ? A negative mark for SX4's image.

I expected the 2.0 ltr CRDI diesel from VW to go in SX4. But even the Jetta puts out 108 horses, so no chance of SX4 getting the same. Although Suzuki and VW started the work on cars pretty fast after the business deal, I doubt VW is quick enough to give its diesel unit to Suzuki for Indian market. VW will first take a few things from Suzuki before allowing this to happen.

On the other hand, may be for economies of scale VW might have given the 2.0 diesel to Suzuki. SX4 diesel with less lower spec powerplant than Verna will be too late, too little.

SX4 competes in under Rs. 10 lakh segment where Verna diesel lies. Its image is not like VW or Toyota that the brand will sell a mid size saloon. SX4 will have to compete with Verna, and for that a bigger power plant with good power and torque is required.

Err Doesnt Linea also have the same engine? I think SX4 DDIS will come only in the next generation SX4 ( i read the article somewhere).

Considering that the SX4 is going to come in a CNG variant soon, chances of SX4 diesel for the current generation is very remote. Just my two cents.

1) There is no concrete news on the SX4 diesel since long.

2) IMO, Fiat and Suzuki are no longer extending the relation they had earlier. VW now has a stake in Suzuki.

3) Suzuki is not having rights to sell the 1.3 SDE in 90 bhp format.

4) Next generation SX4 is expected by 2012 as the new Swift is out by November this year. So chances of the current car getting a diesel engine are not much. Next generation SX4 might carry a diesel heart from VW, but mostly the current car will not have a diesel heart.

@mods : The thread comes up after some intervals of time only to have a question listed about the launch date of SX4 diesel. As we are not having any info about the diesel avatar of SX4, IMO locking this thread will help.

I agree with Phantom76. Wouldn't SX4 diesel version kill Dzire's (LDI/VDI) market. MS would never want to do that.
Now that they have introduced CNG version, another variant may not be on the radar for some time.
But if we are to believe THE HINDU then I'm keeping my cheque close to my heart & treat myself to SX4 (VDI) coming March. (A birthday gift to myself).
