That's true, but seems to be they are meeting the demands of the customer’s quiet well.
Though they are short of supplying the swift diesel, they released Desire-diesel.
Now swift is getting delivered quickly than dezire.but there is a lot of delay for delivering the ZDI (6 months).

Guess the same happens when SX4-D is released, Desire will be release quickly than SX4

Launch of Maruti SX4 diesel faces delay?

Source: Launch of Maruti SX4 diesel faces delay

"Maruti had promised that 2009 was going to be the year of increasing its presence in the diesel end of the market and had plans to push its premium sedan SX4 into the diesel category. But the company is running into delays in procuring the diesel engine from Fiat.
Fiat is already a supplier for Suzuki's SX4 range in Europe with a 1.9 litre engine.
In India, Maruti is keen on a 1.6 litre engine to help keep the price tag relatively lower but currently Fiat has licensed Suzuki to make only the 1.3 litre unit in India, not the 1.6 or 1.9 for that matter.

Maruti was keen on launching the diesel SX4 since Honda's new City came in to the market in October last year.

But Fiat did not want a clash with its new Linea that came into India this January. Fiat is expected to first launch a more powerful diesel Linea and that’s why the SX4 gets pushed to 2010.
This may not be great for Maruti as the SX4 has been steadily losing share with the Honda City now outselling the SX4. In the last six months, Honda sold 15,000 Cities while Maruti sold just 8000 SX4s.
Maruti is hoping the diesel SX4 revives the model's fortunes as it currently also gets cannibalised by the Swift Dzire.

Maruti is sticking to its volumes strategy and the new SX4 will only add to that but by ensuring that the engines are made in India, Maruti is also keeping one eye firmly on the margins."

So, no SX4 Diesel this year? :(

+1. The SX4 diesel with 1.6L engine will be a killer of a car. However, it is disappointing to note that there will be a delay in launch .

Its was on NDTV too y'day night. It will be launched in 1.6L fiat diesel in may '10 time frame.

however there was also a mention that in europe suzuki has 2 diesel options 1.9l ddis and something else ( didn't catch the name), both of which are not licensed for production in India.

So Fiat wants to make some quick sales before SX4 diesel. Maruti should try to get away from Fiat since both companies will be playing in the same markets. Wonder what role GM can play in this.

It is good to note that Fiat is learning from its past mistakes. If the 1.6 JTD has to be released, it will be good if they get it into Linea first, and then only they can think of licensing it to SX4.

FIAT a beaten down brand in India can put up a 300,000 engine capacity plant at Ranjangaon BUT MSIL avery accompalished and star rated manufacturer does not bother to even develop/buy a decent engine and facilitate manufacturing in INDIA :.(

AFAIK Suzuki does have a 1.6 DDiS and its from Peugeot. They don't need 1.6 from FIAT.

MSIL with a State of art engine manufacturing plant

MSIL ( Maruti Suzuki India Limited) does have a state of art diesel engine manaufacturing plant at manesar which produces 2,00,000 units per annum. the fact is that exports take a bulk of the engines and the rest is what the domestic markets get thus causing a delay in diesel engines swift and swift dezires......

The SX4 will not come with a 1.6 DDiS as stated in this thread, instead it will come with a 1.3 DDiS with VGT in a more refined state with altered gear ratios and optimum tuning for better effciency than the Fiat LInea. This information has been informed to me from reliable sources at MSIL.
The Fiat Linea is a great car which sadly is sufferingfrom pathetic plastic and rubber quality which is being used in the car. A close friend of mine works for a TATA - FIAT dealership as a Parts Manager. He said he is not ordering more plastic parts for replacement like fuel lid opener, hoot opener, crome stip on the window panels, engine bay rubber beading housing. These just to name a few which are fixed with such substandard glue and quality.

I think these rules and permission granting business from Fiat is why GM has not used Multi-jet engines in its Aveo and other models.

I remember reading several interviews of GM India heads where they were asked about the Fiat diesel engine application on their cars. They were quick to respond that they do not have any intentions now, and they are simply focusing on using their own engines for their cars.

The replies were kind of venomous in their own way.
