More information from sky sports. http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/...loser-to-Merc-

Quote:
'McLaren's latest offer to Hamilton to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the current campaign, is understood to be worth considerably less than his existing £15million-a-year terms,' it reports.

'The 2008 world champion is understood to have been shocked by McLaren's unwillingness to at least match his current salary, the major sticking point being the perceived undervaluing of his image rights which he must sign away to their army of sponsors.'
And reports say McLaren have approached Sauber's Sergio Perez. http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/...erez-approach-

Hmmmmmm. So, where does Schumi fit in the scheme of things? The biggest gainer of 2013 may be Perez, raw talent, top team, top teammate and top mentors.

I have no clue on that. I think he is in the best shape since the comeback and deserves a drive.

But I think McLaren will yield and Lewis will resign. Anyways, contracts are not worth the paper they are written on nowadays.

He has earned it, hasn't he?

re: Lewis moving to Mercedes next Year. EDIT : Confirmed!

it seems that Lewis has been offered EUR 15 m per season (up from 12 m). So, he will stay back in McLaren and Schumi in Merdeces. Martin Brundle reported this 2 days ago.

So, the conspiracy theories of S'pore race go for a toss.

re: Lewis moving to Mercedes next Year. EDIT : Confirmed!

Lewis would be crazy to move from Mclaren to Mercedes. The Mclaren team are always there in the hunt, always fighting for wins. Over the past 5 years, Hamilton has seen the consistency with which Mclaren either makes a race winning car or improves substantially over a season to become one. Their pitwork has also improved to an extraordinary level.

Mercedes on the other hand, is a team very much in the transition stage. They make the silliest of mistakes (as we have seen especially with Schumacher's car this year), mess up strategy, have yet to make a genuinely fast car, and most importantly always get out developed by the midfield over the course of a season.

The money aside, Mercedes are desparate for a big name driver. Lets be honest, Schumacher is at a very high level even today, but he is not the same MS that was driving the wheels off the Ferrari in the late 90s. He also probably has, 1 or maximum 2 years before his performances fall off the cliff due to age. Nico Rosberg is yet to show enough of his talent (which is admittedly limited by a bad car) to convince Merc of him being able to challenge for a championship given a good car. They have been trying to get hold of Vettel, who has now reportedly already signed some pre contract with Ferrari, and Alonso is sewn up till the end of his career.

The only big name left is Lewis Hamilton. No matter what Schumacher fans (which include me) say about him, the fact remains is that he is an immense talent and is in the elite group of the top 3-4 drivers in F1 today. This is the reason why he will always be on the top of every team owner's wish list (with the exception of Ferrari as long as Alonso is there) till the end of his career, no matter what he does off track.

Hamilton must be thinking about his legacy when he thinks about a decision like this. Schumacher entered a Ferrari team which was similarly inconsistent in 1996 and made history. Perhaps Lewis wants to try and do something similar, even though the task ahead with this Mercedes team is monumental.

The Hamilton to Mercedes story is the most interesting one this season. Lets see how this plays out.

But then, McLaren’s new contract offer is much lower than his current pay. If you factor that in, the EUR 15mil per season may look very attractive for him.

More on Lewis… this time from Bernie!

Don't worry, he could always replace Massa at Ferrari. They'd be interested in him. Worst case, since he's an amazing car developer, he'll be on a test driver role at Mercedes.

Looks like Lewis will replace Schumi at Merc. Dailymail declared this 2 hours back but decided to wait until some trustworthy paper confirmed.
