there is'nt any criterion like that. you can get it peted on the 1st day if you want, its just that peter would like us to get used to the stock car's performance first. otherwise, when the box is added, we wont realise what a difference in performance it makes.

thanks jk

did a trip to TVM and back with the box set to normal(90bhp 230nm) and stock filter

Thanks JK for the welcome.

FE for the trip to TVM with 3 adults, with AC on 100% and rev happy overtaking- 18.8 as calculated by full tank to full tank.(you should have seen JK's eyes bug out)

met TVM bhpians nikhilV12,xinome,sujith,jkdas,sankar and some more, but cant remember everyone.

had fun on the trip. overtaking is effortless and less tense because i can reach the other side faster.

specifically, had fun with 3 cars
a white 1.6 ikon rocam with a tiny K&N sticker on the back.
we kept trading places on the cherthala highway till i decided i was going too fast for my brakes, so pulled over to the left and waved him on. never saw him again.

a honda civic- grey
i kept pulling away from him from 80kmph, but when i reached my self imposed limit of 120, he'd appear in the RVMs again.he stopped for fuel i think.

the 3rd car was an ikon might have been a 1.3- he was a complete idiot was was just racing for the heck of it. blocking me, bullying other cars all at a speed of 80-100. I hung back and watched. and when i got a stretch of clear road, i smoked him comprehensively, accelerating past him like he was standing still.
I could'nt have kept up with a rocam or a civic without the pete's . I love this box.we werent racing, the civic would have thrashed me if we were racing.but i have a feeling my roll on acceleration was better than his. the ikon rocam would have been a good match if my brakes were better. the 1.3 ikon was dispatched with ease.

my top speed was 160,in 5th, while driving alone. on the airport road at TVM on sunday morning. by the time the speedo passed 150, progress had slowed down and there was heavy smoke in the RVMs.

I lifted off the throttle almost 800m before the notorious 90 degree corner and coasted by the corner at 60km.

problems that i expect will be solved after the CAI
1. less smoke above 3500rpm.
2. better low end
3. missing beats above 3500rpm.
4.better progress past 150kmph

now for the money....

NOTE- i dont travel at speeds over 120. the stunt at the airport road was just to find the limit. and i found that the car has a higher limit than me. which is what i want. i'm sure i have'nt endangered anyone other than myself, so guys, please go easy.

Your car would have better braking if u get better tyres... And then u can smoke the 1.6ROCAM as well

I know karthik, but will have to wear out this set of G3s,
then will try and get alloys, another upsize, and upgraded brakes. wish i had the patience to wait for the ABS version, but did not expect the stock swift diesel to be very fast.after all its only 75bhp stock, i thought, how fast can it go? i didnt factor the torque into my calculations, or the turbo boost kicking in without any niceties at 2000rpm
now after the pete's things get even hairier. most of the time, i have to ease off the throttle during an overtaking maneuver so that i dont overshoot.

like psycho said somewhere else on the forum, if you improve your brakes, your car will automatically go faster.

anyway, my objective in making the car go faster is to have a performance reserve so that i can get away from tight spots, rather than get into them.

self imposed speed of 120 is too low imo, each one to himself i guess. i find that 120 is a very comfortable speed for me, and can quite happily take it more, provided the car is willing.

The speed limit is the lowest of what is dictated by the car, the driver and the road conditions. Also, please note that the engine is up to the tast of giving much higher speeds but what about the suspension, brakes, and the tyres. They are still stock.

So he is right in sticking to 120kph. I had an Escort 1.3 in my student days, which on a French Autoroute I took to over 100 mph (on a downslope). However, above 90-95 mph the handling was dodgy to say the least, and later I found out that the rev. limit was 6100 intermittent (5800 continuous) which corresponded to ~98mph (16 mph/1000 revs). I am glad I did not try the foolhardiness a second time. The car with an electric cooling fan, electronic ignition, and front spoiler would go to 6100 rpm with no sweat.

He is young but married and has a 5month old kid:P and hence.

I guess what he meant was his cruising speed was 120kmph

ripper; ( funny handle name for a doc!) you need to do something about ICE.

. Last weekend did a 460km back and forth trip to a town in AP called Basar. While coming back, for almost 50km i was along with a SwiftD and we both were doing speeds in range of 120kmph-130kmph and each overtaking every once in a while.

I was horrified to see the smoke coming out of the SwiftD, sometimes i cant even see the road ahead of me it was that horrible, worse than any truck i ever saw till date spewing that much smoke. And, by the way, it must be a 6 month old car making out from the registration plate.

@jk, correct! i find myself very comfortable cruisin in those speeds, and i guess the swift D should be able to handle something way above that

Jack the Ripper was suspected to be a Doctor. Jack the Ripper prowled and murdered in Whitechapel, London. Our dear Doc is just back from the UK. Mmmmmmmm.

========================

About the ICE, we'll let him fit the CAI first. Then we'll pester him to death about ICE

hey smoking of any crdi or say diesel car is normal.the culprit mainly is the fuel quality.viva crdis and verna vgts also smoke.the guy in front of you might have put in more kerosene than diesel.lol

speed limit of 120

jk- i look youthful(thanks) but i'm getting close to the midlife crisis mark. time to grow a beard and moustache mallu style!!!

the speed limit is my own. I used to cruise at 100 in the stock swift. now, after the pete's i can cruise at 120 easily as the engine is more relaxed and the NVH is well controlled. while overtaking, can go upto 140 the car is capable of handling 160 now.

the most useful real life improvement after the pete's is the ease with which i can overtake bigger vehicles who are hogging the road, i dont have to wait for a long stretch, i can just dab the accelerator in 5th and get past them while they are revving desperately.

secondary benefits-improved mileage
used to make 17-18kmpl on the highway with sedate driving on my own.
now getting 18.8kmpl with AC and 2 moderately heavy passengers while testing the pete's box.
when I install the CAI and settle back to my old driving style- the mileage will get better, even while i sail past bigger engined, costlier cars
the higher cruising speed is also useful.

I have stopped racing on the road since i joined team bhp. thats the truth.

in the verna, given the road, i cruise at 140. and overtaking happens at 160 if need be. I can do that easily cos the brakes will back me up. but the handling at 160 is nowhere as good as the swift's

about the ICE- as long as I can make out the words in the songs I'm happy. i got rid of the amp and the subwoofer that used to grace the earlier petrol swift.
