Thank you for the input. Just curious, how long does the discs last normally?

I do not think there is a solid answer for that. It depends on how it has been used, how the brake pads were replaced when it was due etc.

I changed at 1.65L kms. Off late, there was a shuddering during hard braking and the discs were supposed to be skimmed a bit to resolve that. I rather changed it instead of doing that.

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

My Baleno has completed 15 years successfully with 145,000 KMs in the odometer. Last week passed the RTO retest, for which a exterior paint job was done. There wasn't any mechanical issues. Thanks to Team BHPian Balenoed for finding me complete bushkit from Bangalore for front lower arms and balancer, though I haven't fitted them yet. DIY fitted foot well lamps as a birthday gift. :-)

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

Hi,
I am looking for replacing both the headlamp units, may I know from where you got them and the price you paid. Any reference would help.
TIA

Will the reflector, glass be able to withstand 100/90?

Any suggestions?

I just randomly searched on the net and found this seller in Delhi. Got from them, 2200/- per unit. It was a genuine product. I guess imported from somewhere.

So far good.

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

Hi everyone!

While I'm a long time lurker in the forums, I only stumbled across this thread today, and am so glad to see there are still so many "classic" Balenos running around, mostly owned by enthusiasts!! Mine is 16+ years old, well maintained and only 50k run so far!

While I had fully replaced the front suspension 4 years ago, the rear suspension has gone for a toss (its "bouncy"). The MASS is happily quoting ~45k for replacement, which is ridiculous. I anyway wanted a reason to find a good independent garage for services, so this is the best time to do that.

I'd appreciate references of good independent garages. I live in North Bangalore, so ones closer home would be preferred.

Thanks a lot!

Typically the advice that you hear from mechanic is that you have to replace the whole lower arm as the bush alone cannot be changed. This turned out to be not true. I managed to source the bushing kit alone and insisted the mechanic that he change just that and he politely obliged.

Bushing kit for front suspension:

Attachment 1939402

This consists of a whole lot of bushes needed for all the front suspension parts. There are extra spares as well. Paid 680/- for this.

The ones needed for lower arm:

Bushes inserted and the arm back in place:

Attachment 1939408

To assemble one of the bush, the lower arm needs to be taken to a lathe shop for pressing. Probably that is the reason why the mechanics do not prefer to change the bush. But it really can be done.

Also there is a bush for the balance rod:

This old one was worn out and an insulation tape was put in place during the service done earlier. Replaced that as well and that too was part of the same bushing kit.
Posting here after a loooong time. Good to see that I am not the only one to still drive around in a 15+ year old Baleno (and a 10+ year old Palio). Have been thinking of replacing one of them with a SUV, but its Palio which will go first so will most likely keep using Baleno for another few years.

My Baleno's suspensions have been making khad-khad sound for quite some time (especially front ones and only on bad roads), but are otherwise still good. Didn't want to spend hefty SGP prices and therefore searched online and came across dirt cheap bushing sets available on amazon similar to what you have used.

Front: https://www.amazon.in/dp/B08DTDHP7F/...v_ov_lig_dp_it
Rear: https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0831GGRJ6/...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Authorized service center folks won't do the job (of course) and another local mechanic is also quite reluctant to do the replacement work. He told me that quality of these sets won't be good, especially metal parts in a few of them which he thinks may worn out or crack in as little as an year! You seem to have used similar sets for over an year now, so your feedback would be valuable. Do you recommend buying these bushing kits based on your experience?

45K for what ?
I replaced the rear struts of my 2005 Baleno with the exact same OE struts that came on my car (Showa brand SGP imported) - cost ₹8510 per strut. So total ₹17020 + labour.
Yet to update my LTR though.

There are actually cheaper alternatives available, like this TRW one costing just ₹3233 each recommended by Leoshashi in the "cheaper Baleno spares" thread.

TRW is a reputed aftermarket brand and I'll highly recommend it.

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

The Esteem's rear brake wheel cylinders are a direct fit for the Baleno sedan (cost Rs435 each for LHS & RHS).
Maybe someone already posted on this thread, but since I changed them last month, thought of updating here, if it helps anyone.

Bushing kits, surely I would recommend it. And they are cheap and no harm giving it a try before going for a replacement of the whole set of otherexpensive things.

I haven't replaced the rear ones, but front ones are holding good so far.

Thanks, will find another mechanic and give it a try.

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

For the past several days, my hand break wasn't working as it was doing before and often I get a feeling of left rear wheel getting locked. Couldn't really check the issue due to my too heavy work schedule. Today morning the wheel was totally locking while reversing, then releasing on forward move. Somehow took the car to FNG guy. He opened the one and to our surprise, entire pads were broken into pieces. The right one was okay but both the cylinders were almost jammed. To my surprise, we got decent spares locally, the pads are compatible for more than few vehicles. Total cost including some coolant and other servicing was about 2500/. Now the car runs as before and the breaks are decent. Sharing some photos for information.

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

@glomus123, did you check with MASS before considering local/after market options? Usually regular wear and tear parts like brake pads or cylinders are reasonably priced I believe. More so if they are shared with other cars.

Yes, I checked with MASS. They don't have these in my nearby areas.
