Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

Does anybody know this?

Is Baleno (Old) has an Interference engine or Non-Interference Engine ?

This topic came up while I was reading about timing belt and its significance in replacing them on time and the consequences if it fails.

Procured it from Popular Automobiles and was exactly the same price quoted as above.

Got it replaced at Sejal Motors, Bangalore. They have done quite a good job.

It is a very tedious process to get the Timing Belt cover removed. Had to remove lot of components such as air filter, hoses, power steering fluid tank, power steering assembly, pulleys, belts, clamps etc, to get access to the timing belt.

The timing sprockets needs to be carefully aligned to these small slots on both the sides before removing the old belt. And it need to be kept aligned as it is while putting back the new belt.

The old belt was almost its end of life at 1.25L kms on the ODO and 13 year old. The manufacturer recommendation to replace is 1L kms or 9 Years. Though I have crossed those limits long back, was lucky enough it did not give way. Though you do not see that the old one will break immediately, the mechanic mentioned that I did it at the right time, as it had some small symptoms of wear and tear in its tooth.

Labout cost - 1200/-. Will take about 2 hours to do the job. Now I can be peaceful for the rest of my car's lifetime.

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

Hey guys, Need your inputs on this one.
Have come across a '04 Baleno Lxi with 60k on the odo
Have had access only to the pics till now.
Seems to have been kept well cosmetically.
Will be meeting the seller to have a physical inspection of the car.
What points should i keep an eye out for?
Any known issues ?
I have gone through this thread for Baleno spares,
How is spares availiability in mumbai?
My objective of buying a baleno is requirement of second car in the family which is fun to drive in the city and occasional trips to the nearby weekend getaway destinations.
I am confused between a Baleno and a Zen.

Please suggest.

Regular checklist is more than sufficinet
- Check the genuineness of odo reading
- Suspension noise : Baleno suspension parts are little costlier to replace
- Tire wear
- Engine response and clutch performance
- All electrical items (especially the ORVM, window winders, combi-switch)
- AC performance
- Steering oil leakage

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

Got some small job done today. During the last visit to the mechanic, he showed me that the engine oil is leaking into the spark plug slot which may also result in it leaking into the combustion chamber later on, due to the worn out O-Rings of the spark plug. Procured it from the distributor which was readily available and got it replaced today.

O-Rings (4 pcs) - 110/-
Labour - 300/-

Those 4 rubber gaskets are the O-Rings, which seals and prevents the oil entering into the spark plug pockets.

I feel you are quite late to own that '04 model Baleno.

But, should you really wish to own that, some check points-

Suspension - It is the first thing which hits the Baleno. Drive on pot holes and see if you hear any thuds or unbalance.

Engine - Myself owning a '04 model/1,21,000 kms Baleno, I have no complaints about the performance of Baleno engines no matter how old it could be. (Provided it is being used in a well manner and not met with any accidents)

You may also have to check with previous owner on when he has replaced the clutch, tyres.

Also, re-stating some of the points mentioned by fellow member-

- A/C Performance. Turn on and see if it cools really fast or not.
- Power Steering/Brake/Gear/Engine oil leakage
- Electrical components, especially check all the functions on the combinational switch assembly, power windows, RVM, Central locking
- Check on any damages on the condenser and radiator

The SGP parts are very costly, but available. But not sure how long you will be able to source them. That is the reason I said, it is quite late to buy this model.

Still, you may try placing an order. They can deliver if they have it lying at some location. The part number was 34112-60G00. Approximate price should be Rs. 2100.

Edit: A quick search on Google for the part number gave this result. Looks like they have it in ready stock.

Got this part replaced by myself today. The meter glass in my Baleno had some scratches and stains that I could not properly see the meter readings and also had a dull look. Procured it from the above site. 1236/- (after a 50℅ discount because it had a small damage which is not visible though)

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

The rear passenger side power window refused to move up a week ago. Tried to move it manually but failed. Since the car was due for service, dropped it at the MASS. They however acknowledged the total mechanism had failed and has to be replaced. The quoted price was 14k+.

Tried to get one from a scrap dealer at Shivajinagar and found a guy who asked me to get the car to correct it. He quoted a 1.5k repair cost. Took it today and he removed the entire mechanism and found the cable moving the window was shredded in a couple of places. Replaced the wire, cleaned and re greased the entire assembly and fixed back. It now works flawlessly. Looks like either the MASS does not want to take up repair jobs or its workforce is not capable of handling such issues.

MASS does not entertain the repair jobs, and especially this kind of particular job. Had exactly the same issue few years back, and they said the same thing. But since it was working if I give a manual support along with the power button, and push it up. Lived with it for an year or so, and now it slides up/down by itself without any support. It just got fixed by itself. I have had many other small issues which got fixed by itself magically. Baleno is just an intelligent and super car

It's not specific to Maruti, almost every authorized A.S.S don't entertain such repair jobs. Labor cost is almost close to FNGs these days and the maximum share of their revenue is from the spares.

Reminds me of those days when I used to take my dad's Ambassador around. Once had the same problem and the FNG directed me to a specialist " Door mechanic" who took the assembly apart and fixed the problem for a princely sum of 400 Rs 😀

Re: Cheaper options: Spare parts for the Baleno sedan

What should be the cost of all 4 dampers and top mounts? SGP ones will cost almost 50% of the car's market value today and I'm looking for cheaper alternates. TIA.

I went and bought from their store in Bangalore. Not sure whether they ship it to your address. Please check with them if you are interested.

Also, found the same (front shock) at this site-
