Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Hi,
Here's a brief video of some back country riding around the hills of Udaipur, Rajasthan. Interesting day of riding with 3 river crossings (with a dip in one!). Enjoy!

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Got my Givi Airflow today. Fixed it on the bike. Also got the Motourenn GPS mount holder . First impression is that the entire thing is more sturdy than the carbon racing set up that I had before

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Went for a weekend ride for about 100 plus KM to Krishnagiri. And boy, was I pleased with the Airflow. At the highest position there is zero turbulence or any wind hitting the rider. I even rode at about 120 KM/hr with my visor open for some distance. These Italians do know a thing or two about aerodynamics. The only downside is that the top of the visor comes right in between your line of sight, which is distracting ( this is when it is fully extended ). This was a night ride and hence it was a bit disconcerting. I suppose I will need to get used to it. But the Visor at the mid -level setting also works well below 100kmph.

I also believe that, would need to carry a bottle of windscreen cleaner and a microfiber cloth to keep this clean during a ride. If the visor gets scratched, then I believe single piece only is not available. Stones and other objects hitting may result in scratches and this is acrylic

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Looks good. I had installed the bigger Givi windscreen and had problems with my rearview mirror striking the windscreen with the 2-inch raisers.

This looks better

The ADV crosses the 60K mark

Not to be left behind (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/super...ml#post5418815), the ADV crossed the 60K mark during my most recent ride to Kashmir.

Sharing some pictures:

Pretty cool man. Those are some huge numbers in a very short span of time. Out of curiosity, may I ask why you choose to use this to tour when you have something like the V in your garage? I only ask because I’m hard pressed to imagine what occasions outside city (if at all) or trail bashing that the Adv might prove better than the V. Would be great to hear your thoughts on which bike you pick for which conditions.

You could apply a layer (or multiple) of PPF to be on the safer side. I had the same concern with my RR310 and got the windscreen/windshield PPF'ed for less than a thousand bucks. Pretty worthwhile even if you need to change it once in a few years I feel.

A feat indeed! Have you chronographed the experience, especially one that's gravitated towards mechanical upheld to the your Duke, which I'd love to get a read on, if not. Keep munching more on both.

Cheers!

I have not really maintained a history of records per se but I've been very particular about the oil change interval & air filter replacement interval.

Thank you for your response. You said ‘ If it's the Himalayas, I cannot think beyond the 390. On the other hand if it's a GQ run, has to be the V !’

I guess my question was more on the ‘why’ of it all. Is it the lighter weight that makes the KTM better for you in the hills? Or is it the handling or gearing? I ask because I was always given to believe that the V’s lower COG made it a very good handler. Didn’t really peg it for a more straight line mile-muncher.

Yes, it's the nimbleness+ handling of the 390 that beats the V hands down in the hills for me.
I'm quoting myself from another post:
"Another aspect to this is the sheer weight of the big bikes. I ride alone most of the times and am all by myself. So picking up the bike after a fall on my own matters !.
I had a fall from my ER-6n before chandratal lake and just could not lift the bike in any which way possible. People will tell you use leverage and all but that's fine for YouTube videos. Not all falls occur in real life that way !"

By the way, the V has amazing straight line stability and smoothness of the v-twin makes it a great mile muncher

Thanks, that makes sense. Fwiw, it’s not that I didn’t think/know that the V was a great cruiser, it’s just that I was under the impression that it’s handling due to its lower COG is what really separates it from the likes of a Versys. Great point about the weight, particularly when riding alone.

Cheers,

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

I own a 2020 version of the KTM 390 ADV. I recently got the software upgraded which gave me the 2 basic riding modes.

Post the update, I have been facing an issue. Whenever I accelerate hard in any gear, I feel a jerk almost as if the engine didn't combust in that particular cycle causing a sudden lack of power. This is not a comfortable feeling during overtakes, and also not minimal enough to neglect.

I took the bike to the service center on two occasions. First time, they simply re-installed the software, which did not solve the issue.

On second occasion, they tried troubleshooting by changing the spark plug as well, but that didn't help either. The person-in-charge at the service center mentioned that he had a talk with the KTM engineers as well, and it seems like the issue is going to be there for a few kms (few = unknown). Their understanding is that the ECU with the updated software might take time to adjust with the engine's actual conditions and the issue might be solved. However, I can't bring myself to believe that would be true.

Anyone else faced similar issue? Any other thoughts are also welcomed!

I am facing exactly the same issue. Even I have a 2020 version 390 ADV which very recently got the software update. I took this issue to SVC and they did the same thing - flashed the software patch once again hoping the issue gets resolved. But it's still there, in fact felt like it's getting worse.

Last week I got an overall service done - fresh oil, oil filter and air filter. Still no improvement. Confused what could be the reason.
