Thank you guys (@Ratan Prabhu & @lazyrev) for the replies. I have decided to go ahead with the purchase.

I have couple of doubts:
1. Triumph Kochi has called me and said I will eligible for 10k discount if i Pay them the whole amount before Sept 29th. They are quoting 2.97 Lakhs on road price (after the 10k Discount). Is it safe to pay the whole amount without even seeing the bike in person?

2. As per their quote, the Insurance is 23K from New India. I checked Policy Bazaar and I could get insurance at 16K from United Insurance (Only united insurance is showing up). Should I go with Policy bazaar? I confirmed with the showroom about cashless claims and they said it won't be an issue. Will it be the case?

Nice post, @Himanshu809.
Been enjoying your posts here on this thread so far. However, this post would have been even more enjoyable if casual generalization like the above statements could have been avoided.

I'm sure even you will agree that not every one with a Goldwing is a serious rider and not every R15 or KTM rider is a *******, being a menace on the road. Mistakes of the few should not be used to judge all.

Otherwise great post and give all our regards to your FIL

Thanks for that. I’m glad you enjoyed my posts. That’s all I want, to add something to the forum by my experiences. And you get me wrong, I was not judging the rides, I was judging the riders, the R15s and KTMs were over-speeding by a huge margin and cutting into the traffic very dangerously. In fact one them cut in front of me so aggressively that I had to panic brake and swerve to avoid in response. I should’ve mentioned it too in the post itself to avoid the confusion. In comparison the Goldwing and Kawasaki riders I saw were riding much more calmly.

I never judge anyone for their ride except as a joke for eg. I don’t like Hyundai cars and often joke with my friends about Hyundai drivers being self obsessed road hoggers but that’s only in jest and I don’t mean it seriously. When it comes to motorcyles obviously the riders create the image and not the rides. Thank you for your kind words and yes I’ll pass on my regards to my FIL.

I paid on 5th Sept, got the insurance on 22nd. After that nothing. I have seriously run out of patience. Renju, Vignesh, Gagan nobody picks up the call. I'll visit them soon and make a huge scene if it's gonna be delayed even more.

If they're actually doing this, it could mean they're transferring someone else's booking to you. As the bikes aren't actually produced in sufficient numbers, it could mean bookings getting transferred, plus its refundable too.
But I think its not a risk worth taking without proper paperwork. Once the money is theirs, you may or may not have much of a choice. They might hand you over a damaged piece. I also read something about transit damage of few units, to the Bengaluru Bajaj dealer, that ill-reputed one(what's his name?).
Ask them to accept your booking amount, and that's about it.

As for the on road figure, ask them for the breakup of the figure, and ask them to remove anything like "Handling charges" or "RSA/ Roadside Assistance" if they're anywhere above Rs. 1000.
As for insurance, I think they're suggesting 5 year, 3rd party plan. In my time, we had 1 year plans. I'm not fully informed of the recent trends and developments, but you can try for a 1 year plan from them, the next year you can use Policybazaar for the best deal.

This is exactly what I thought. The SA was saying that if I don't do the full payment now, from next month onward this 10k discount won't be valid. He was saying there are many people who have already made the full payment and once the new lot arrives the people who have made the whole payment will be preferred over my booking it seems.
I inquired in RE about interceptor and they said once the bike arrives they will inform me and then I can do a PDI and then I can do the full payment. Isn't it the case for all automobiles?

Yes thank you. I will ask for the RTO break up.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Hi all,

Just a couple of minor problems that I've noticed on my new speed 400.

1. False Neutral
I didn't face this issue in the first two weeks, but this has become more apparent of late. While switching from 1st to 2nd the gear lever is settling incorrectly at neutral. I first thought this was because of my footwear, but I tried with a couple of different shoes and i noticed the issues both times. This doesn't always happen; maybe 1 out of 5 times. I'm aware this could very well be due to my own incompetency lol so I'm going to try to make a conscious effort and see if I still see this happening again.

2. Fuel Gauge incorrect reading
My indicator showed reserve just 183kms after filling up the tank completely. I was wondering if I was actually riding the bike terribly and getting a bad mileage.
When i filled it up again, it took only 6.5 litres for the full tank which shows that I'm achieving an average of 28.11 km/L. This isn't too bad and it matches what others are seeing. I'll definitely get this checked out in the first service.

Please feel free to add your own experiences to this.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Got my Speed (pun intended) delivered on 24/09 from Thane. It is the closest dealer to me & I did not have the patience to wait till a dealer opened in my hometown, plus the Rs. 10k discount made it a little more enticing to buy. Rode it all the way to Nashik as soon as I got it without any issues along the way & absolutely loved it.

But there's always a but...
I paid the amount of Rs. 2,77,073 to Shaman Triumph on 09/09 & like everybody else had done the Rs. 2k booking on launch day itself, so in all I paid 2,79,073. Now the problem is that when I got my paperwork/documents from the dealer the final amount adds up to 2,76,218. The difference stands at Rs. 2,855 here.

The discrepancy is in the Insurance. In the proforma invoice it is given as 24,989 but in the insurance paid receipt I have received it is mentioned as 22,175; here the difference is of Rs. 2,814.

There is no paperwork or proof regarding where this amount went. Also my sales executive has ignored all my calls & messages on whatsapp when I have asked for an explanation for the same.

I got the otp friday last week, no updates since then. Keerthi was closed on Tuesday (as per Tarun) due to the bandh, and probably will be closed again on Friday. I wish we could have gotten it before the long weekend :(

  1. This is what all dealers do when there is high demand for the product. The Pune dealer did this too and after haggling (and a complaint from me to Triumph), he said that I can indeed see the bike before it is sent for RTO registration, but I will have to wait for a week extra because for people who pay the full amount, they take the bikes directly from the lot to the RTO and then to the showroom for delivery.
    • I couldnt wait the week extra so I reached a compromise where I told them I will make the full payment but that I want the chassis number of the bike. This was to make sure that the bike was actually with them and not on the factory line. You could try to reach this compromise if you want to. Otherwise, you can raise a complaint with Triumph (I did this) and they will ask the dealer to contact you. They take this pretty seriously so you may be able to inspect before paying.
    • I will add that this is not a Triumph specific thing. Many customers are willing to fork cash early to avoid multiple trips and get it quickly. I remember being the only one here who had raised a complaint about it to Triumph itself. I am guilty of caving in too as I thought there will be warranty to take care of any issue. I received a brand new bike with the promised chassis number. I dont endorse it but it worked for me.
  2. For me, insurance from the dealer was close to 25k (United). This includes zero dep for the first year and some addons for consumables engine etc. What you have seen as 16k is not possible. The basic 5yr third party insurance is mandated by govt and is 15.2k or so, plus GST. So you probably missed the GST part, which would make it 20k. Add on zero dep which many prefer to have for the first year at an IDV of 2.2L or so, and your premium will go up to around 22-23k, at which point I found it easier to just take the dealer's deal. From my research only Acko was cheaper by around 4k (~21k total) for the same package but again, I went the convenient route.

This is how it is in Hyderabad. See my earlier post: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...ml#post5621216

I believe it comes down to faith and trust on the dealership. Better to just ask others who are getting their bikes delivered. Yes, it'll take some amount of inquiry and probing, but if everyone else is doing it, then better to just go with the flow.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

I noticed that the coolant level has dipped to the min level on my bike. I checked it because I felt that the bike was heating a bit more than usual (not unbearable still) and it smelt a bit different after a long ride.

Telltale light has not come on yet so I am not too concerned, and there is no other change in the bike at all. Could have missed it if I wasnt so mechanically inclined. I could have checked the temp if I had an OBD2 sensor but I am yet to buy one. Not sure which one will be compatible.

Service center said to bring it in as I also wanted to get the fuel gauge software updated. Let me know if anyone else has noticed coolant level going lower. Thanks.

Image with bike standing perpendicular to the ground. It actually comes up to just above min if I put the bike on the stand.
