Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Slightly off topic. Do Triumph dealers take trade-in bikes of any make and net off its value against the cost of the new Speed 400? Or do they have tie-ups with some local second hand dealer and expect us to deal with them directly?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Is there any definitive cause and solution to the fuel gauge issue faced by the users?

I guess this along with vibes post 6k rpm are the major niggles reported in the initial batch. Can the owners comment on their experience with vibes at moderate cruising rpms of around 5-5.5k and beyond. Now do these compare to bikes such as ktm 350, 390, re 350, tvs/bmw 310 at equivalent speeds?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

I had done my full payment on 2nd Sept at Keerthi Bengaluru. I received the insurance sms on 14th Sept but haven't received the RTO comms yet. I contacted SA Tarun on 18th, and he replied that RTO should be done by this week with probable delivery by EOW.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

One accessory which is needed is a rear wheel mud cover. I was driving in rains yesterday and realised decent amount of mud splashed on the back seat.

Is there a generic one available which can fit into any bike?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Anybody received offers from Triumph dealers on RSA? Heard that some dealers were offering one year complimentary RSA to initial customers. Is it true?

Delhi dealer quoted 500 for a year with support available within 100kms of any Triumph service centre across India.

Pune dealership said first year of RSA is complementary.

No to both unless you already have a Triumph, in which case the bike will be parked for sales at the showroom. This from Hyderabad.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Ok, made some changes/additions. Thought I'd share with people here.
  1. Added a Bobo BM4 phone mount after much contemplation and reading a lot of paranoia inducing posts about vibrations and theft. I didn't want a tank bag and I don't use earphones in my helmet. Also, I dont really need to park my bike in unfamiliar/unsafe locations so stuck to this well built mount
    • Speed400 tip 1: The included mounting hardware isnt an exact fit. The dia of the handlebar is on the higher side and using the brown tape thing will make it even larger so the mount wont fit. I had to jerry rig some teflon tape and masking tape to help protect the bar and then it was mounted on. I also chose to go with the horizontal style and placed it "under" the handlebar to protect from wind gusts. It looks very nice, protects the bike and also the mobile at the same time.

  2. Removed the saree guard: I didnt like how it looked and it got very dirty when the roads were slushy. All it took was one 6mm allen key to remove the bolt on the top and a wrench to remove the two bolts under the swingarm. Looks better now although I feel the picture I took doesnt do it justice.
    • I also noticed that the guard is quite heavy, probably because they had to make it stiff since it has only 2 mounting points.

Loving this, exactly what I was thinking of doing. Doing on the Scrambler might be an issue with the padding and the different handlebar though. Will you be adding a flyscreen down the line? Autologue seems to be working on one in addition to the official accessories one.

I have the same mount. I have attached it to the left side of the handlebar using one of the pairs of supplied plastic spacers, no tape. There was no difficulty in installing it with a tight fit, so I wonder why you faced an issue, unless you wanted to use a lot of tape to protect the handle bar coating.

That said, I too should move the mount to the middle so that it's front and centre, works as a good speedometer, and doesn't tilt up with the wind at 100kmph. Using a flyscreen would protect it even more.

By the way, does anyone know what is the use of the supplied rubber strip?

Coming to the saree guard, although it is superfluous, it might be useful for me to fix a single saddle bag without having to add panniers.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Thanks to the mods for featuring my post on the home page. It means a lot to me as it’s the first time I’ve posted on TeamBHP about my automobile purchase experience and that too about a highly coveted motorcycle.

Today the bike will go for graphene coating. I hope it turns out well. I’m off to work and waifu will do the honours of taking the baby for it’s little pampering session. I trust her to take care of all the nitty gritties as she works with Turtle Wax India and knows her stuff.

Will post photos after the treatment.

How much does it cost, and which parts of the motorcycle will be covered?

I asked our neighbourhood detailing shop about ceramic and PPF coatings, and was told that PPF coating of mainly tank and side panels, with a five year warranty, would cost Rs. 20,000. 3M ceramic coating comes with a 3-year warranty according to them, but I forgot how much he quoted

Anyway, it might have been Rs. 7,500. I need to go and check again with a person who looks to be actually in charge.

A new tank might workout cheaper if replaced after using 3-4years.

20K for PPF, which is basically a piece of non eco-friendly, hard to recycle plastic, that too on a tank

Now, I'm not even thinking to get this done on my Honda.

I am very curious to know if you had done any follow up on this. If yes, please share the outcome of any discussions in this regard.

Triumph, from the start, had clearly stated always that the service interval is 16000 kms or 1 year whichever comes first. I'm surprised to see 120 days mentioned in the document shared (along with a change in kms to 7500). Is that really official Triumph communication you got there?

Triumph Speed 400 Review-triumph-service-interval_2.jpg

When they are advertising its service interval as 16K/12 months, why would one get it serviced every 120 days? And why wouldn't they provide the extended warranty if this condition is not met?! This is bad!

PS - I am also surprised that nobody's talking about this here even after being pointed out.
