Well for starters the RTR is not a first generation bike, it way more technologically advanced than the Yammy and the performance is something that we don't need debate on. Moreover the fuel efficiency is approx. the same, plus ownership costs is something that one needs to look at too!

@ac 427 if u want a practical explanation i would suggest u ride both bikes back to back to be able to understand the above statement.

to the guys saying that the apache is a better motorcycle in terms of mechanics u are right. but a motorcycle is not just about mechanics. its about looks , status and brand .

and Yamaha are a much more powerful brand then TVS. Yamaha is still associated with powerbikes thanks to the RD , the RX , the R1 and now the R15. ( forget the enticer and crux ) . plus this bike looks alot more refreshing than the stale RTR. FZ defunately makes sense to the ur average commuter looking for something interesting probably something that might even help spice up his personal life :P . good work by Yamaha . we got an extended parts bin and a good looking bike. hopefully yamaha will find great success with this bike and start producing good powerful track oriented indian bikes with the profits they make. GO Yamaha ! GO !!!!!

Has anyone read the road-test of the FZ-16? There is one in the Oct issue of Bike India, IIRC. I haven't picked up a copy yet so can't comment.

But people who have read the road-test report may have accurate ideas about the performance of the YZ-16 vis-a-vis a Pulsar 150 or a Apache RTR.

Lets not be harsh on the Yam for being puny and 'all show no go'. Lets also accept the fact that the bike is refreshing to look at for its naked street-fighter looks. IMHO, Yamaha will not let down its customers after they have launched the YZF R-15, arguably the best performance bike in the country.

So, lets hold our horses before anyone gets to read a road-test or test ride the bike in person.

I checked out the FZ16 on saturday:

- Looks Big & bulky

- The tires look awesome

- Console is high tech but very small & has weird colors, the digits are in orange color & sports odo, speedo, & tacho. No clock

- The tank that you see is actually all plastic(no macho feel) & the
bike is very light the handly bar is like the RX100 quite plane jane.

- Once you are on bike it feels very plasticky although looks awesome
otherwise

- The pillion seat is a joke & with its height might not be very practical

- Has Mono Shock suspension at rear

- The tail lamp is from 2 decades back.

- There is no fairing but just the headlamp & its just too naked, I
know many would like that but from the rider's seat it feels odd
especially since the speedo is so small.

- Price OTR in Pune is 73xxx & RTR FI is 77xxx & P200 is 75xxx

- Mileage expected is 40-42kpl

- From what I have heard the low & mid-range is really good & handling
is best in class

@praful: I would not like to be biased, because I have not yet taken a TD (or TR in this case) of the RTR and hence i will not comment on the same, but I have taken a TR of the Yamaha FZ - 16. It is exactly what I am looking for, when i want a bike, i want it to feel small and tight, exactly what the yamaha does.

Currently I ride a BULL 350, hence when i give the throttle approx after 3 lightyears the engine realizes that and she starts slowly slowly accelerating, but yet i love her, foolishness or whatever one would like to say.

But the Yamaha deefinately is a better looker, and I don't agree with techno, that the wheels looks ugly, infact they make the bike look bigger and better.

And yes, Praful, i shall TR the RTR post which i shall comment on the same.

Cheers
AC

I do agree that the bike seems a bit less on power for the way it looks with all muscles. However people want FE and Yamaha have looked into the mileage aspect. According to people who have test ridden it, the bike has good grunt.

There is a road test of the FZ16 here.

Its a good 10-15K more expensive than the other 150cc bikes. What you get for that is a massive dose of style not performance.

Give TVS and Bajaj 1-2 years and they will have a FZ lookalike on the roads for less money.

Hi MP thanks for that pic. I have to say the FZ looks better than the R1 Wannabe.

Nice review on that link. Thanks
