Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Here's a good update from my end. I booked the Thar on 3rd Oct (Kolkata) and was mailed a promised delivery date of 3rd December by the dealer. A few days ago they kept saying that the date might get postponed by a couple of weeks.

Today, the showroom guy calls me to say that my Thar would be dispatched in 2 days by Mahindra and I would probably receive the vehicle by November end.

The dealer would get to know the chassis number and other details as soon as it is dispatched.
I'm so excited. Will keep updating.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Wow !! Kudos to Mahindra. I never thought there would be a time when buyers would agonize over delay of delivery of a Mahindra Thar. The 2020 Thar has definitely struck a chord with the buyers.

Same booking and initial delivery dates for me - got changed to 31st Dec on Monday, but got a call last evening that it'll reach by mid-November - if not for Diwali then right after.

Mine is a LX CT AT Diesel Black.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Thanks for the very detailed review. Once upon a time I was planning to buy the Thar when I was posted in Kokrajhar in Assam. The test drive in Bongaigaon put me off totally. The Thar then too was not worth the money. I finally settled for one of the last gypsies in production in 2018 (which I feel is way better than the Thar practically-maybe my bias)

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

A close friend who was first to booke in BLR got a message from dealer that delivery has been pushed to Dec first week. So I guess there is a real production and distribution issue. He is now pushing to see if Nov end at least is a possibility.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

This is what Mahindra have put up on the Thar official FB page. Waiting periods of 5 to 7 months for the Thar 2020 and LX HT models worst affected.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Apparently the AX and AX Std variants no longer find a mention on the Thar official website! Only variants I can see are LX and AX Opt. Are these (silently) dropped altogether?

Yes even I saw that yesterday and thought may be the scroll functionality on my phone is not working. But yes, those variants are gone from the website.

Its strange as why should they take it away from the website. They can limit booking on the booking page if need be. First say silently added AX std variant after the launch, now they drop it and AX variant silently. And they are silent on other deliveries. This is eerie silence everywhere.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Variants being dropped without any word is a bigger news to me than deliveries getting delayed. I hope they bring those back once dust settles.

The Thar, as it stands today no longer starts under 10l. The cheapest version is now 11.9l - quite the jump from what all the flyers and promotional media has been saying all this while.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

So Mahindra did not ship any Thar to dealerships in October -

(Source- autopunditz)

Now, there were no Thar numbers dispatched in August or September either. So how did the dealerships get their display and test drive cars - where not billed to the dealerships?

And why wouldn't you make the ~2000 vehicles per month that you had planned right from August onwards, when unveil is already planned for Aug 15th, launch on Oct 2nd (1.5 months) and delivery schedule from 1st November (2.5 months from unveil)?

Even if M&M did not expect this kind of a response, they should have at least made and shipped something? Somehow, it looks/ feels like there is something off about this whole scene...

Unrelated note - looks like Army is ordering more Gypsy than ever. Look out for when they get discarded from service

I wouldn't be so sure. Got these images getting circulated on the net and it seems to be one of the initial batches at some dealer stock yard -

Crazydriver - Are these pictures from a Bangalore based dealer or elsewhere?

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

All the cars that have been shipped seem to be hard top variants.

Any deliveries being made of the convertible top?

I've been promised 17th November but even that seems so far considering the wait of many years. (People who have got dates in January and March please dont hate me for cribbing over 10 days )
