Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Has anyone been successful with playing videos over USB on the new 10.2" system? There is a video player app on the system but it seems to be always disabled.

Company Players, I think all across manufactures play Videos when the vehicle is stationary.

Try playing it when vehicle is stationary and confirm

Yes, never tried when it was in motion. Tried with accessories power on and off in stationary park mode. It was always disabled.

Android auto is resolved for me, the issue was with my phone's Battery Optimization settings. I removed both Android Auto and Google Maps from optimized apps list. Over a drive of 500 Km never once android auto disconnected and had a continuous view of maps. I also explored the satellite view and it looks great especially traversing a ghat section. Almost, like a drone watching over you while you are driving.

Apart from wondering how to get the video player to work( I've tried with vehicle in Park and USB connected and it still doesn't work), I am also wondering why I am unable to find the "Drive Next" app on the system? This app or tile shows some analytical data on how good or bad the driving has been and rates score accordingly. On YouTube videos I was able to see it on Harrier XT+/XTA+ but not on the corresponding Safari variant. ( I do not see it on my vehicle as well, although one could use the iRA app to view the same information )

Can anyone confirm if it is really available on the Safari?

Just an advise, check your jack before going on a long trip and ensure its easy to operate else get it smoothened.
Your observation and experience is spot on. I had a similar experience on a city road after returning to the roadside car park and encountering a flat front tyre. It took me disproportionate effort and also time for something as routine as changing a flat tyre. The scissor jack, the wheel spanner and the handle to raise/lower the jack is much below OEM quality for tools supplied with a four wheeler. I searched for the solution on the web itself. Will take the opportunity to put forth same here.
  1. The scissor jack requires a bit of a modification to attach a ratchet spanner to it by welding a 19mm bolt to its point where the supplied handle is to hook-on. The bi-directional turn from a ratchet spanner can then manually raise/lower the jack with optimum manual effort. After this is executed, the hook handle for the jack is redundant.
  2. A 19 mm Taparia 'Deep socket spanner' and a L shaped extension handle gives enough clearance and leverage to loosen wheel nuts without scraping the body of the car unlike the wheel spanner supplied with the car, and also for the fingers of the hand whilst turning the spanner. The L extension handle made of stainless steel comes in two sizes , the longer one gives more leverage and is suggested. There are other tool OEMs too like Venus, Tata Agrico, Stanley and a few other OEMs also manufacture the deep socket spanner and L extension handle. Taparia is a shade better. It's beneficial in the long term to spend that about one-third more on a quality tool, my pov. Tools are time savers and at times life savers. This is for loosening the wheel and also for tightening the wheel nuts after changing the tyre.
  3. In case one is particular to NOT over tighten the wheel nuts....the OEM recommended torque for wheel nuts is 103 Nm.This figure is given on the OEM literature on the soft copy of service instructions handbook in the service station PCs. The staff is reluctant to share this figure. Reasons unknown. Same figure has unfortunately not been shared with the user in the handbook supplied with the car, unlike other OEMs of cars.
  4. A torque wrench <110 Nm or <125 Nm manufactured by Taparia or any other brand would tighten wheel nuts to exact Torque and prevent the user from under/over tightening, [unlike the excess pneumatic or manual tightening undertaken by the neighbourhood or highway puncture wala (with good intent of course) and I daresay the service station also at times mostly out of shortage of machine floor time]. A torque wrench is a calibrated tool which comes with its calibration report too, and needs to be restored to its original un-tensioned state after each use to retain its usability over time. These three tools would considerably ease changing tyres.
  5. Last but not the least, an old wheeled roller skate medium to large size with a V shaped SS receptacle welded onto the footspace of the skate to accomodate a large tyre would make moving the spare and flat to/from there alternate locations simpler. The welding required takes all about an hour to undertake at a neighbourhood fabricator for the jack as well as the skate.
  6. A 1.5 feet hollow pipe of 3mm thick aluminium that has diameter more than the L shaped extension bar eases opening wheelnuts furthermore. Hope this helps.
There are videos on YouTube that document these modifications with further clarity. The end state of this solution is to be experienced to be believed. Best of luck.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Some more observations and impressions from someone upgrading from a Figo Aspire Diesel manual.

1. Amazing cabin insulation, ride quality. It felt like I was driving 60 but, i was already at 100.
2. The transmission is smooooth! Gear shifts are seamless.
3. The steering is alright. I've had fair share of hydraulic powered and electric powered steering systems in the past and this one is just fine and gives great feedback from the road according to me contrary to the exaggerations everywhere about how hard it is.
4. Wireless AA is very unstable. Wired AA is not. I've not had a single issue with wired connectivity.
5. Reverse camera stopped working just once as shared in the earlier post. Once I did a reset, I've not seen the issue repeat again. Display quality is very good.
6. Suspension set up needs a mention. After driving the Safari for a week, driving the Figo Aspire again made me realise that the difference is night and day! I now see that when driving the Figo, I have to come down to 0 speed for speed breakers and pot holes.

It works now. I was trying this out on 64 GB pendrive with lot of content on it. I gave it few minutes and video player now works. Every format that i threw at it worked so far.

Here's a demo !

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Hi All. I am in a dilemma w.r.t. the extended warranty and though I think everyone will advise to go for it, still wanted to check pros and cons,

I have booked a Red Dark XZA+ and have driven only safari over the last 20 years.

Extended warranty has helped me in the past considering that the engine and transmission were both Tata,

But does it make sense to pay 33K for 2 year extended warranty (1 yr. warranty is 27K which certainly don't make sense). The key question is - what are the chances of a major failure like engine or transmission. Do automatic transmissions till fail making a 33K cost worth? I can understand it with a manual transmission but would you guys suggest paying 33K for 2 yr. extended warranty for automatic?

Heart says yes go for it, but head says that chances are low and if at all an issue comes up, the cost may still be less than extended warranty.

Thanks in advance

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Quick question to the owners here, are you guys happy with the light output or did you go with an upgrade for the headlights. If yes, please suggest some good options. Thanks in Advance.

I would say listen to your heart, peace of mind is needed especially with Tata and Mahindra cars. Some time you will be lucky and nothing will go wrong, but god forbid if something goes wrong, then you won't be a happy person looking at the heavy bills. So please go for the extended warranty, if you plan to purchase later then I assume the cost will be more than what you will be paying initially.

I would say go for it. Extended warranty can be taken within 90 days of purchase. I don't have direct experience of usefulness of extended warranty, however one of my family members had extended warranty of Vento diesel automatic and it came handy during DSG failure, saved a lot of money.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Hi All,

I have been following this thread for sometime now, I currently driving Duster Auto RXZ and very happy with its drive. Having said that we see a need to upgrade. Few on the mandates we decided (me and my wife since we share the ride)
1) Automatic
2) Diseal
3) Sunroof (preferably panoramic)

Vehicle considers and test drove
1) Tata Safari
2) XUV 700
3) Scorpio N
4) Alcazar
5) Kushaq
6) Harrier

While I will share my detailed experience of all the test drives, I am right now a little confused and hence reaching out to for suggestions.

We both like the Safari and are all set to book, as we are about to book we hear there is a facelift expected in 6-8 months, secondly while exploring the reviews I tumbled upon an Ad for a sparingly used 2021 model safari XZA+ (missing features as compared to 23 updated model - ventilated seats, 360 camera and old infotainment system along with phase 1 engine)

Vehicle is available under 20L which is almost 9L lower as compared to a new model. M from Bangalore please do share your suggestions and help decide if it’s new 2023 dark edition or the 2021 white used for 11000 kms both XZA+ model. Looking forward to heard from the community

My 2 cents, go with the newer version. These features are something which you cannot install aftermarket and you will not regret in the future that you should have bought the latest one, when you had the chance. Ride comfort on the Safari is amazing and trust me you will not regret your decision.

Dark edition would be hard to maintain especially with the dust in Bangalore. If you are okay to invest some time over the weekends in keeping the car clean, then you can go with it eyes closed.

Key point is to make sure you do a proper PDI before you make any payment.

On the facelift, it's quite sometime away and Tata will be adding new stuff very often, so there is no point in waiting. I think the current avatar has all the features needed in the current world.

I can understand the dilemma. I had booked and taken possession of my Safari, just a few days before launch of ADAS versions. Tata has this game on called "forever new" if you see advertisements during IPL. Hence buyer’s remorse is a thing with Tata with frequent incremental updates. The other side is that with updates, you also must shell out more money. In my case the newer ADAS variants started to go out of budget. For a middle-class person like me, budget is everything and remorse comes later.

Another game Tata has mastered better over other SUV brands is the waiting period. It heavily tilts the balance in favour of TATA when you are a first-time entrant into buying a newer class of vehicle and don't want to wait longer.

Most of the new age features like bigger touchscreen, 360 degree, ADAS etc. are already incorporated into Safari. The uplift could feature a petrol engine or even an EV. Hence, as per your requirement of Diesel SUV, the facelift would only be external and some minor internal changes. The point to look out would be if they switch to EPS instead of hydraulic and subsequently update ADAS to implement lane keep assist. Current ADAS of Safari has some features missing.

From now till facelift launch it is more than 6 months. Why not go for quick delivery and enjoy the next 3-4 months of monsoon trips?

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Hi Itszii,

My hunch is that future Tata cars will be loaded to the gills with tech. Now if that's the priority, then definitely wait for it. If you'd still want a car that's simply a CAR, the current Safari is just perfect. Well balanced in terms of everything, low delivery wait times, improving customer experience, and an overall better package when compared to its competition.

The only reason to wait for a facelift would be to see if it gets a petrol power train and or electronic steering(with new ADAS features). Given that there are test mules in Korea, I'm assuming that these features might show up in the facelift. If these things are something that don't really matter to you, i would suggest that you take the plunge.

Good luck with your search and decision 🙂
