Keeping my fingers crossed for delivery. Anything specific to check at the time of delivery specifically w.r.t Astor? or same as the usual standard checklist?

Thanks
Got delivery of my MG Sharp CVT (red color) last Thursday. The delivery process was smooth and it felt as if the delivery day was an event! Kudos to the entire dealership Team!

I was driving a 2011 WagorR base model so getting used to the new car and the features that come with it.

Have some questions, request help for the following:

1) As of now, I am getting poor mileage. Got 6.5 km in my last city drive, iIsmart app shows driving score of 100. I am also sure that I drove reasonably well most of the time, not pushing the accelerator hard & avoiding sudden braking. Is it that mileage improves after 1st service?

I will be taking the car on highway drive this Saturday, lets see how much mileage I get.

Any experienced user? Please help with suggestions/tips on how to get better mileage on the CVT.

2) Seats are dual-tone Ivory Black and White. I envisage seats getting dirty with multiple people sitting in the car. Already have a red color stain on the backseat which was caused by the roli used during Puja. Any recommendations for liquid solution to clean the stains for the seats?

3) Read on the forum enough on PPF's. Checked with 3m Borivali, Mumbai and they quoted 70k for Ventura Shield for front & rear bumper + all fours doors.

From my perspective, don't want to spend so much. Might as well get the specific area of the car painted when there are multiple visible scratches. But still, if you think there are car detailing workshops that can do the work at reasonable rates, i can consider PPF.

It was majorly highway driving along with under construction road with heavy traffic (about 25 kms). Normal driving with light foot, ac on at 25 deg, with three passengers and without luggages.

As it was driven straight from delivery and was still on run-in period, no cruise control was used, rpm at less than 2000 and at speed max at 80 - 85 kms. The drive was both by me and my wife.

This car is for her and she too has moved from i10 manual to Astor CVT. Though I couldn't click picks of her city mileage, she has attained 12.5, 11 and even 10.5 on different drives within the city. Will click that sometime and share it here.

I am attaching pic of the highway drive mileage

Took Tata AIG insurance Sapphire ++ plan, dealership matched the quote; got it for 38k.
PDI process was smooth.
Thanks
What was the initial quote for insurance from the dealer?

It was around 68k. They call it MG Secure. Took some quotations from the top 5 insurers and was flabbergasted to see the difference.

I asked the dealer that I need Sapphire ++ plan from Tata AIG, and told him that i am getting the same for 38k from the insurer directly.

Re: MG Astor Review

I got a call today from the MG dealership asking to make the full payment in advance (even before the PDI). He says that the car will the stockyard in a couple of days. And then you can do the PDI and if all goes well we can do registration and we can get the car.

I told him that I need to do PDI before making the payment (He says its dealership's job to do PDI - just making some excuses.)
He then later said that he needs to complete some dealership invoice targets and needs the payment before 31-01-2022.

In the first call he even said that this model is fast moving and you should make the payment soon, else his seniors might allocate the car to someone else.
For information, this is MG Ahmednagar(Maharashtra) dealership and the model is MG Astor AT Savvy. (I do not think this model is fast moving)
Can you guys please share your thoughts on the dealership behaviour and what should I do?

Also when in the process of buying a car do we make the payments? (I will be making cash/online payment ) i.e. PDI --> full cash payment with MG/different insurance(at what point should insurance should be bought) --> dealer does registration and get your car. Is this process correct?

MOD NOTE : Please proof read your post for spell / typo error before submitting, would be a good idea to run a spell-check. You are also requested to not use bold fonts unless absolutely necessary.
Thanks.

Generic pressure tactics from salespeople, do not yield. You are the customer, and you're the one whose money is being spent.

Dealer is trying to reduce his cash flow. No need to pay a penny before the PDI. It's your car and nothing to worry about it. Ask for VIN and do the PDI before making any payment.

It doesn't matter if the car is fast moving or slow moving, he can't give your car to others.

Further, you can take insurance from outside, and it is cheaper by around 19- 20k. They can't say no, but try to scare you off. Stick to your stand and get the delivery of your car mate

I believe the Insurance has to be in place before the Registration is done. The Insurance is one of the details that has to be provided.

Re: MG Astor Review

Got my Astor Savvy Turbo delivered in Bangalore 1 week back.

Took insurance from outside, which was almost Rs 20,000 cheaper. Tata AIG.

Mixed delivery experience. The insurance team kept stalling from giving a better quote which delayed the registration. The showroom staff are not yet trained fully as they did not know the accessories that I already paid for.

They were always courteous. No extra charges e.g. logistics, etc. And finally, not too much scare mongering about outside insurance.

I have driven less than 100km till now. Coming from Skoda Rapid diesel DSG, the shifts are slower but cabin is more silent.

Re: MG Astor Review

After having driven a Baleno CVT for 3 years, I took delivery of my Astor CVT in the 1st week of January.
I Have been driving the Astor CVT for a little less than a month now. Performed a tank full-tank full test and achieved a fuel efficiency of 8 kmpl, with a test distance of 130km and all of it within city limits. This number was the same as that calculated by the car instrument pack display.
So can safely assume that the calculations are pretty accurate. I plan to do a long drive after the 1st service, will test the highway efficiency then.
I used to get an average of ~13 with the Baleno driving the same routes. But yes, the Astor has a bigger engine and ~500kgs more than the Baleno.
I am not aggressive on the accelerator and mostly use engine braking by shifting down in the manual mode to slowdown while descending flyovers or at signals. That was something I used to do with the Baleno as well.

Re: MG Astor Review

I finally received a call from the dealership that my ASTOR 220TURBO 6AT SHARP has been allotted and I should start the loan process etc.

Can someone please guide me on the PDI checklist (What are the key items I should check for before taking handover) and also on the accessories you would recommend for the Astor.

Thank you

Re: MG Astor Review

Hi All,

Today I received a call that the MG Astor (Style) that I booked has been allocated. I have been reading that most users ask for PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) before going for the registration. I asked the same to my dealer, initially, they mentioned depositing 50% amount but then I contacted Customer Care and now they seem to have come on board. So, I wanted to confirm, what all things do we check while doing a PDI(purchasing a car for the first time so have very little idea).
Also, I think I am going to opt for outside insurance, can anyone suggest it? Currently, I have taken quotations only from Acko.
Lastly, what all things I should be beware of in the process of making the payment and taking the delivery of the car?

Thank You in advance, this forum has really helped me a lot!

Our PDI checklist thread has everything you need to know.

You've done right by not budging to advance payment tactics. Do a PDI to your satisfaction, and only then release payment and sign paperwork to proceed with registration. Do another quick walkaround PDI on delivery day to ensure there's no damage in the duration the car stayed with the dealership.

Insurance, compare quotes and reviews online and decide. Check out individual providers' sites, or somewhere like policybazaar if you'd like a one-stop comparison.

You can connect your phone via bluetooth to make and receive calls. You'll continue to use the mapmyindia navigation etc.

But for AndroidAuto and apple car play you need to connect your device via USB. With this your voice commands will be more intuitive (Google/Siri) and u can use your device navigation.
