Really surprised at the poll results on this thread. Though we should not take straw polls seriously, it is very concerning for Toyota to see only 25% has decided to retain the booking. 25% has cancelled the booking and rest 50% are indecisive.
The car was launched with lot of positive vibes. In the last two months, not sure what has gone wrong? Is it wrong strategy, dealer attitude, poor interiors, delay in pricing and test drives or simply the tapering of interest? Toyota has to really pull up the socks here.
With Crysta back in sale, I am seeing next to nil commercial interest in hycross. GX variant will be hard to sell. They should have provided 6 airbags in VX increased its price by around 60K. With only VX and ZX variants available in Hycross. |
The poll is quite accurate to be honest
Let us consider the customers
There will be fleet owners and normal home buyers
Now fleet owners might go towards crysta and low end only a few companies and hotels would buy the top end for their purpose
Now coming to normal buyers like us on Team BHP
Now who are the potential buyers of any car
1) People who buy their first car and people who own less than 10 lakh car ( hatchbacks and low end compact sedans and compact SUV )
2) People who own 10-25 lakh car ( high end Compact sedan, compact SUV, Sedans and SUV)
3) People who actually own Innova Crysta
4) Peole who have a higher price range car or a luxury car
Category 1 there would be negligible people to jump to a 30 lakh car so let's leave that category
Category 4 there will be people like politicians and high job paying people they might consist of 25% of the sales then let's give another 25% to fleet owners also and that total 50% let's leave out from this poll
Now the rest 50% can be considered as category 2 and 3 and I think most BHPians over here are under this category
Now in category 2 most people have vehicles like Creta, Seltos, Hector, Honda City, Verna etc. Now people in this category already have well equipped cars now and the only options in hycross are VX for 31 lakhs and ZX for 37 now most of these owners will start thinking of is the upgrade worth it. Coz if you are jumping for a family car with 8 seats then VX is the only option but VX has no features at all not even 6 airbags. And ZX at 37 lakhs does not even have the rich feeling interiors of the cars all these people already have
and further ZX is actually a 6 seater for adults
It is the same case for people in 3rd category who own a crysta. Crysta is a proven vehicle and when switching to hycross ZX is the only option that is a upgrade to Crysta. VX hycross has similar features just the hybrid engine and new look is a change and nothing else
Now let us actually calculate the hybrid running cost with diesel. Most people in this 50% will choose this car for highway driving and less city.
Urban Cruiser Hyryder has claimed mileage of 27 and gets 20 on the highway for most people. Now let us consider Hycross mileage as 16kmpl on highway so to travel 1000km you need 6400 rs of petrol ( current Bangalore rate) and let us consider crysta diel having 12 kmpl on highway so to travel 1000km we need 7250 rs of diesel. Now the price difference is not that much. ( Yes there are other factors of diesel to consider but here we are taking into consideration people who already own crysta)
Now this category of people either have to go for ZX to get any extra features from existing cars and even at 37 lakhs the interiors don't feel up to the mark.
And this price range of 30-40 lakhs has a lot of second hand cars like Benz, Audi etc etc even used fortuners available. And most of these cars have top notch interiors.
So the result of the poll is quite right.
There will be a lot of people who will cancel and many have difficulty deciding what to do coz 31 or 37 lakhs is a huge amount
