Removing the cat con isnt that easy. Yes the Thar is high off the ground. But this doesnt automatically mean that someone can easily get underneath, remove the exhaust manifold and those joints, push a couple of other bits and pieces out of the way, remove the under body protection (if fitted) and then undo, disconnect and remove the cat con.

I think this is not a cause for any concern whatsoever.

The cat con is sitting there along the exhaust pipe. See the pics. Forget about casually dismantling and removing it.
Even harder to do when full underbody protection is there.

I did this today after taking delivery yesterday. The technician spent almost 4 hours to fix it. The camera isn't the best quality like the screen itself. But it does the job. I was annoyed with the dealer that they was so reckless and didn't care to even inform me that it was not ready during delivery as it was promised. I only found it when reversed.
Delivery experience was the worst i have ever experienced. This is with pondicherry dealer. Thar as a product delivered best so far when it comes to the experience part but it was completely spoilt by the dealer.

Even considering all the extra money that I spent on under body protection and steel side steps and AVO suspension, and grille and foglamps and dash cam and the other additional things, I have spent another 1.8 lacs bringing the total to 19.3 or so.

I look back a few years and see that one could get a fully loaded top Spec Scorpio for some 16 lac on Road.
Now in April 2023, I am just shell shocked that the Thar in raw form itself, costs about 20 + Lacs on road.

It is a tremendous and frightful increase in prices over the last 2 years!

Please elaborate on the suspension upgrade . I have read your thread and would like others like @GTO who have got it to let us know.

Can we start a new thread a d discuss the suspension in detail and the pros and cons. Mahindra have tested the car for lacs of kms and we want to know why such a hard set up. Yes the short wheel base while effective offroad adds to the woes.

Can we lower the car to about 210 mm and get a softer more pliant set up that helps the back ?

Would appreciate experts to throw some light as most of these cars are urban cruisers so would love to make it a great daily runner

There is a lot that I have already written about AVO on the forum. I don't want to repeat what Ive written multiple times so I won’t do that again. And so hage many others who bought AVO.

In ref the stock suspension, actually I just drove my friend’s 2023 Thar and they actually seem to have made the suspension better and more comfortable than it was in my 2021 Thar.

Yes indeed many persons including me use it a a daily driver. Yes it is high off the ground. Yes it generally has hard suspension. Yes it is not as comfy as a sedan or city commuter.

But it is a SWB Jeep and these vehicles will never be as comfortable or as cossetting as cars will be.

In ref to lowering the height of the vehicle, well, that defeats the ourpose and anyway since it will seriously mess with the dynamics and physics of the vehicle I would never advocate anything like that. No after-market engineer can do this, except a rally specialist and it will be super expensive. I dont think there is any precedent. And there won’t be a precedent either, because unlike the Gypsy, the Thar cannot really be a Rally vehicle. The AVO suspension is adjustable. So read more about that.

Considering that many people get led away by the looks of the Thar only to find that they cannot live with it day to day, such people have to make a hard call sometime, bite the bullet and consider if indeed the Thar is suitable for them or whether a soft road cross over will do the job better. There is nothing wrong in preferring a cross over. It doesn’t make one any less of a person.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Hello All

Took the delivery of a blazing bronze RWD last week with a surprising waiting period of just 3 weeks. Bought this to replace my ML350/320i as the daily drive. I know it may come across as a strange/weird decision but I have been looking for a low maintenance SWB, quick, and enjoyable daily ride for some time and am extremely glad I took it. This thread and the other Thar threads helped a lot in understanding what to expect from the Thar and RWD. The difference of course is very stark compared to the other cars I have and driven but once I understood what to expect and what not to, it has been easy to live with and quite enjoyable too.

I also got it loaded with a few useful accessories. The reverse camera software upgrade is pending. The accessories guy mentioned some weird reason and said that he’ll fix it during the 1st service. A very enjoyable booking and delivery experience with India Garage – Mahadevapura. Except the reverse camera installation, the whole process was seamless.

Will update the thread as and when I have useful information to share.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions – pls ask.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

In the videos I have noticed that the rear occupants embark/disembark only from the passenger side. Does the driver seat also collapses to allow passenger entry or this is not possible due to the steering wheel? Also, the gap between the folded passenger seat and the door frame is it adequate for a average size person to 'climb' in comfortably or once has to make some effort.

Thanks.

I think you should go and see the Thar and drive it and test it thoroughly. Most of your questions are already answered in multiple places.

Short answer is yes you can embark and disembark only from the passenger side. And yes larger animals can also get in and out. Ive proven that myself.

Yes indeed. It's Petrol AT. Waiting period for Diesel variants is quite high while for Petrol, I was told, anything between 6-8 weeks. It probably varies from dealer to dealer and city to city. No complaints ;-)

Here's a snapshot of what I had received while booking. My sales contact had mentioned that this needs to be taken as tentative considering heavy dependency on production.

Re: Mahindra Thar 1.5L RWD Review

Gentlemen,

I was wondering if there are any road oriented tyres available in the market for the LX (18" alloys)? I was curious, and wanted to know if and when I'm changing my tyres, whether such an option is available. If anyone has had such road oriented tyres installed on their Thar, would immensely appreciate the inputs.

The expensive SUVs don’t ride on AT tyres

Current tyres the Ceat Crossdrive are good for the intended use but if we have good HT tyres for a vehicle that does duty primarily on roads and highways then some might consider it if it makes their ride and handling better.

The good thing about the AT tyres is that they are abuse friendly as recently a big screw was removed from the front tyre without a puncture. So for our Indian Roads the current AT is good and well priced infact the Crossdrive is cheap for it’s size.

With time the expectations have evolved as have the vehicles to want your car to be comfortable yet have the classic looks as for the capability multiple videos exist of Altos outshining SUVs in snow.

We RWD owners want a comfortable jeep period unless it’s an oxymoron 😊😊
