Wow Sir, many congratulations, the cars are a real treat and some of the best maintained (the cream one in particular) classics I have seen anywhere. Brilliant.

Best Regards

That grille on 3112 is from a Fiat select and does not have a badge/logo on it. The super-select grille (like on superselect's car in his avtaar) was a different pattern and thicker than the select one. It also came with the Fiat logo on it.

Behram preferred the select grille so fitted it over instead.

Here is a lovely 56/57 dukkar that I haven't seen for years - moralfibre caught this picture the other day.

If I remember the glovebox had a nifty period radio fitted. And I love the number!

Bumping a thread I suppose (no more restored restored Fiats to add??), but I spotted this car at the same spot (I'm guessing this pic is the NDA/Pashan Road just before it meets Chandni Chowk in Pune) at a washing centre a few months ago, with most of its interiors removed. Restoration was in progress I guess. Caught just a fleeting glimpse but promised to come back for more since its just outside where I work. Unfortunately, its been missing since that day

Cheers,
Rahul

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Spotted a lovely black Elegant (BYF or BYH, cant remember) yesterday at a mechanic in Armament Colony on Baner Road. Very original, and had a VCCCI sticker on the windscreen. Was missing the left front wheel, standing on a jack instead.

Is the owner here by any chance?

Cheers
Rahul

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

'hope this is the right thread for this.
A young (well even younger than me! ) friend of mine has this neat Fiat Millecento tucked away safely at his ancestral house in Secunderabad. The car was bought by his late grandfather in the mid-late '50s from the first owner, at Kota (Rajasthan) where he was working then. twas brought to Hyderabad and re-registered in the late '80s.
The car was maintained by my friend's grandpa until his death around 10 years ago and was running even some time after that- I'd seen its pics. posted by my friend on his orkut album taken around 5-6 years ago, and even an older one in B & W when the car was Black in colour. 'cant view them now as I'm no longer active on orkut.
It's a very decent, well-maintained car and very original except for a few parts. twas originally Black, then at one point of time painted maroon by his grandpa (the RVM as you can see was also painted the same colour and still sports it) who then had the car fully done up at the local TVS showroom (then Fiat/PAL dealers) at Sec'bad in 1997 when it was finally painted in the present colour. The rims were hand-painted by my friend as he didnt like the silver paint on them!
Though the car is cocooned safely, locked up in its very period garage (the house is more than a decade older than the car, though the latter is relatively in a better shape!) it hasnt run for atleast 5 years now and my friend lives with his family in Bombay so he comes down here only once in a while. He just left back today but said he may be coming back in a week and again next month so plans to get the car cleaned up and running the next time.
He says the engine head has a hole in it, but apart from that it's mechanically fit.
'took the pics. when I met him today, after dusting off some of the ages of accumulated dust on the car!

Good to see that his family still intend to retain the car for their posterity. 'hope to see her out of her hibernation (in a fit state) soon!

Its always nice to hear of cars like this which have been part of a family for a long time. Externally the car looks in pretty good condition. Even the interior looks pretty fit. Hope the engine is back in shape soon and we get to see the restored pictures here.

Shyam, that's a beauty !! Thanks for the pictures.

I wonder how many more of such 'hidden gems' would be around, tucked away and safe from the weather, vandals, and rust ?

Indeed. Fortunate that this car was treated kind by Hyderabadi weather! Also all the more fortunate that their garage seems to have no leaks/dampness whatsoever despite being as old as the house (built in 1940!), which unfortunately is going into a bit of deterioration from the elements. This could be because the asbestos roof of the garage has been reinforced with a layer of cement on top, which seems to shut out any leaks.
Also the house had been broken into by thieves on a couple of occasions, who'd robbed some fittings from the bathrooms etc. but touchwood the garage remains locked safe all the while to this date, opened only by my friend when he is here!
