This is a beautiful car & lucky one too being in original condition.
For the hole in the engine head, can you please throw some more light? I am surprised to read that for an engine "made in Italy"! Is that a hole he can see or just that he found out because of water leaking out?

As per my friend, its a very small hole, not easy to spot it but some times small drops of water start leaking.
Earlier the mechanics used to block it by applying mseal on it.

Saw the same car in Bavdhan, near the Nebula Bar & Restaurant. It seems to be owned by someone who lives there and also has a nice Padmini (couldn't identify model).
Noticed the stereo, but couldn't get a clean shot of it.

Incidentally, the centre light said Made in USA. Was this original on this model?

Cheers,
Rahul

The owner also has a 54/55 Millecento I think with a diesel engine. Maroon, MHJ regd.

The original centre light should be Altissimo, made in Italy, but many similar units are available.

MHJ 5403 is the registration number if I remember it right. I have a couple of pictures of the car when the owners son and his friends drove it to Goa.

OK so finally the car has seen daylight! My friend was here again for a week and got the car out of the garage. Even helped him get the engine started up once with a borrowed battery.
Sounds fine. But the points, condensor and ignition coil (still the M'marelli one) need replacing.

Also the brakes are jammed, which my friend said he'd attend to when he's back in hyd. maybe in a month or two. By which time he plans to get her up and running for the Deccan Heritage show on 15th august.

Some detailed pics. of the interior...can make out the original (ivory?) colour of the steering wheel. Hubcaps safely stored inside!

Also what looks like an air-intake below the dash?

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Dear Shyam - hello after a long time. Please tell your friend who has the 3 slatted grille fiat to replace the fan belt before he starts the engine, the belt has inverted itself on the pulley. Also, be careful of M seal filled on the cylinder head near the front of the intake manifold, the water can leak from there. A little attention will prevent huge engine expense.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Shyam bhai that Millecento looks very original & well preserved. Nice to hear that you were able to start the car. I am surprised to see a crank hole in the front bumper.
Also those wheel caps look mouthwatering
BTW i think that engine cover gasket is fitted in the wrong way, it should be the other way around. Anyways looking forward to further updates on this car.

Hello to you too sir, yes nice to hear from you after a long time!
Aah yes, I forgot- we did tell him the fanbelt needs to replaced too. Also I think so does the fan with an original metal one? Any solution to fix the M-sealed crack?

Aah yes, I forgot to mention the crank hole in the front bumper- you sure have keen eyes!

Actually I'm noticing it only now as in earlier pics. of the car, it had the front numberplate fitted there over the hole.

Yes the hubcaps are lovely...but not original to this model. But atleast they are still Fiat 1100...and best of all, dont have the holes through the center!

Engine cover gasket?? You mean the tappet cover?

Indeed, caps look NOS, seems they were never fitted on the car, and yes i meant tappet cover gasket. Is it fitted the wrong way?

No I dont think so..have seen it fitted this way, with the filler cap pointing towards the radiator, in all old fiats (that I've come across) so far?

I think you didn't get what i meant to say, i was referring to the tappet cover gasket( used between cover and engine head) and not tappet cover. Its jutting out from the edges hence asked about it.

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Posting these pictures of 1959 NSU Neckar which I saw at a museum in Mannheim Germany as would be of great interest to all, the car has arrived just a month back in the museum.

Very nice car and in good nick, tough probably refirbished but sympathetically or may be not. The curator for the same was not there :(.
