Hi, good work, but I think you do not get the tape meters for the 1956 model.
1956 fiats come with the two round meters.

For clarification please refer ' vintage & classic car parts ' and look into the last two pages for quotes by Mr. Behram.

Thank you.

Hello Doctor! Long time! Hope you are doing well.

Regarding the dashboard meters, yes, I am aware that they are incorrect. The Mille had round gauges. The same was pointed out to the car owner too, on the Facebook thread.

This car has been discussed here very, very recently: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/post-w...ml#post3663508

The owner is T-BHPian 'upspeed'. How could you people miss this?

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Dear all - you can see that the fitment of the "patti" meter is incorrect. It is much above its normal position. The top and bottom covers of the combination switch are also incorrect, they are of the Padmini. The original covers were flat. All this clearly indicates that this car had the original round meters and during the restoration, patti meter is somehow fitted. The whole thing looks completely out of place. The front panel on which the moustache grille is fitted is clearly a 1956 panel and not a 1957 panel.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

From where this car was, I think the effort is monumental. I am sure there can always be a second level of restoration to get all the bits an pieces correctly. But as I look at it another Fiat on the road and gleaming too

Dear Dr.Kannan - hello after a long time! Thank you for your comments. I do appreciate the efforts and the sentiments of this fiat's owner but it is easier said than done for many people due to many factors, the biggest being availability of genuine period parts in today's scenario. I guess I have been lucky to have collected things for more than 30 years and used them to good advantage now. If he just cannot get round meters today, he did the next best thing, what else can he do!

By the way, my teacher Mr.Anil Patel's exact words were "THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO DO A PERFECT JOB AND THAT IS THE ONLY CORRECT WAY". These golden words are etched in my memory forever, word-by-word! So is the permanent memory of being a humble student of Mr.Anil Patel, Mr.Framroze Nariman and Mr.Shashikant Mohile, my 3 wonderful teachers. For me, they are God because they wanted to teach and they actually taught me. I wanted to learn and I did anything and everything to learn from them. I believe that learning is a continuous process so I am still learning. I am delighted to share the learning with whoever is willing to listen. I know that you benefited because you listened and acted accordingly. Simple! .

Also, I get the information sharing platform in TeamBHP, for which I am grateful to Rushabh and the TeamBHP team.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear Dr Kannant if you go through the thread carefully this car does not belong to me! if you have a source for the meters you can PM up speed directly his name is Sanjit. I am sure he can keep it in stock for a future restoration on the car. As Behram stated what does one do when parts are not available? you make do and present the best way you can. Its more important to get the car on the road. Harsh words after a restoration once completed can be offputting and discouraging to the person who spends time, effort and money. one should look at the overall car and appreciate. That is my philosophy!

I have not taken any offense to your comments! I am not sure I can say the same regarding the owner of the car.

Dear Amol - good comments from you and I take this opportunity to react!

So many people including authentic restorers (for who I have great regard and respect) have told me so many things after my restorations, but I don't really care as I just do what I have to do. For me, my restoration is an engrossing activity to express my exact thoughts of what my car should be, from bumper to bumper. I hear everybody but it just does not register, because if I do what they feel is correct (and actually they are), I will not get what I want! .

See my LHD. I always wanted a patti speedometer there! I know that the speedometer will never work because there is no speedometer cable suitable for the Italian meter at one end (which is different from the Padmini, I know it) and a Japanese gearbox at the other end, so be it! I got the patti meter, period!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Having dropped off my relatives I was returning home in torrential rains, when I spotted this Select in the opposite lane. I immediately took a U-turn and followed the car till its home.
Its owned by an elderly gentleman; a retired ACP. He's the second owner of the car and the car's been in his possession for around 40 years now.

The car runs faultlessly and is the primary source of commute. It does regular 80 kms drives; to and from a farm house.

How do I know all this..? I was invited in for a cup of tea and we chatted for about an hour!
