re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

A 1972 Fiat 1100 D, first owner car, mostly self driven, from Nagpur. The car dons its original paint shade with a coat applied many years ago.It is from among the last batches of the Fiat 1100 D, made by PAL just before the Premier President came along.

The car is largely original, but the owner has preferred to re-badge it as Premier Padmini Deluxe BE. Even the front grille sports the PAL logo. The meter console is also Padmini. The last Fiat 1100 D's had the single meter, black dial console, with the two gauges and the warning lights all under a single glass. The Fiat imprints however remain, on the engine bay (engine no. and chassis no. plate)and also on the horn button. The car has period accessories like the sun-shade and the curtains, but the upholstery work is not so appealing and a later job.

The bumpers have bumper guards with the rubber and the shape is President/ Padmini like. In fact, this is original and the last batches of the Fiat 1100 D came with such a bumper-configuration.

Thanks for sharing - hope the owner at some point tries to spruce up the car and revert to more original fittings.

I doubt that the Padmini style bumpers were original - my 1972 Delight has a later chassis number, and still sports the earlier style of bumpers, and it too was practically a first owner car, with no alterations.

Having said that, I do vaguely remember Prabal mentioning that during the transition from Delight to President there were some bumpers carried over (I forget which to which). And Prabal's word I usually take for granted

Here is an old fiat taking part in some rally, I think. The acceleration sound resembles an early fiat. The nostalgic acceleration sound is so intoxicating.

Guess what! I thought that you had posted images of our Delight! Too similar. PYS/5775 or MMU/5324 is also located in Nagpur. Just too similar. Rusted wheelcaps et al.

Even ours has Deluxe BE Badging. Though, the original upholstery lurks beneath the seat covers.

However, ours still retains the original gauges (They have not worked since 1984, I believe), Lucas 700 Headlamps, British made. The bumpers are President like.

I have always wondered if they were original.

BTW, a Dark blue Standard 10 has been slowly been rotting over the years in a bungalow in Surendra Nagar, Nagpur.

PYS/5775 has a later engine & chassis. But has the President style bumpers.

However, is the air filter in MHX/7852 original? Also, the ash trays?

Our Air-Filter box is circular, and in black, with some sort of a yellowish circular sticker on it. The ash tray, in my case is chromed.

Cheers!

:-) I would if I could. These are all the pics I had. The owner was a young 1st year college kid who was restoring the family heirloom! As per him the spares needed were ridiculously cheap and easy to source. Paint job was done locally at the painter's discretion and the upholstery guy was doing a really good job with the carpeting and the seats.

This '57 Fiat 1100 elegant belonged to a fellow tbhpian "suren181" who sadly passed away last September. His family decided to retain this car in his memory.

Oh! My friend was told that the car owner had passed away recently and that the family was still deciding whether to retain the car or not. Good to know that they've decided to keep it.

I had posted these earlier on another thread, but I feel they're appropriate here too.
Car spotted at an AutoExpo held at NIE college, Mysore.

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Images from the Owner's Manual (Instruction Book as per PAL) of the Premier President:

Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)-president-manual-2a.jpg

Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)-president-manual-1.jpg

Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)-president-manual-3.jpg

Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)-president-manual-4.jpg

The black dialled speedo was fitted to the last lots of the Fiat 1100 D and to the early Presidents. Soon, the white dials appeared for Presidents and early Padminis. The dark greyish black dial, that lasted very long, had come by mid 1975 in the Padmini.

re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

Saw this a few days back, looked like a recent restoration.
Have never seen this color scheme before but I'm loving it
