re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Hi everyone, it is monsoon season down here and most of the rides are through heavy downpours. The problem that currently nags me is the fogging up of helmet visor. Any tips to avoid the problem and is there a helmet with breath deflector available for purchase in India ?
Regards Adrian

Most modern premium helmets such as LS2, Cross, SOL, etc. come with breath deflectors. The problem of misting is compounded when the rider is wearing a balaclava.

There are visor demister sprays available but not in India. I keep the visor slightly open to let fresh air in. My SparX has eye brow vents which work great but only when the bike is moving.

Gearing up for my Bullet
Try the nearest Harley show room. They may have it (or a similar looking style). Price - its a HD lifestyle product, may be it will cost about 5% of the price of Bullet

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Visaster, I have seen riders using such helmets and while this design may be available as HD accessories and gear, there are also cheap imitations available which are sold on the roadside.

In the interest of your safety, please invest in a full face helmet. If you still want to have some open face riding get a modular (flip-up) helmet.

The army type ones will not protect your face or jaw in an untoward incident (God forbid).

Read this on Sport Riding Techniques by Nick Ienatsch and it makes a lot of sense:

Always dress for a crash because you never know when a crash might happen.... That said, don't let your gear trick you into believing you're invincible.

The cost is 800 INR.
It is available at Helmet Paradise(opposite to Urvashi Theatre).
Looks wonderful(from a distance) and has a giant 'DOT certified' imprinted on the helmet at the back(I think it's fake though).
An acquaintance of mine owns a similar helmet but it costs 4500 INR(LS2 ?).
.
.
Please post the details after the purchase and the photo,if possible

Thanks aditya,
I have 4 full face helmets and this is just a part of my humble low cost collection.
Look good factor is all I want it for.
I very well know its not going to save me in a crash ( I surgically treat patients with face injury on daily basis - read maxillofacial surgeon)
Flip-up is worse than no chin guard.

"When you are prepared for an emergency the emergency ceases to exist is a doctors mantra" ( equally quoted by a biker)

Tempted because it looks so good on a bullet.

Great, I guess I will go for it.
Let me see it in reality to decide.
Interestingly they quote the truth

"Important Notes: 1. This HELMET are just what they say, Novelty items only and should not be wore for protection as they do not pass any safety standards. 2. These HELMETS are designed to be an extremely low profile HELMET that fits very close to your hear elimination the ever –so-dreamed mushroom look. However, they are not ISI approved HELMET."

re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Hi friends, I am using a LS2 Speedy, which is now 8 months old. I had a small crash on the dirt when testing the Impulse off road and the helmet saved me from any kind of injury on head. The helmet acted so well that I didn't even feel any shock or anything when my head hit the ground. Now, the helmet 'looks' okay and received only a couple of scratches due to the fall but am in a mood to buy a new helmet as it is said that a helmet is good enough for only one crash.

My budget for the new helmet is INR 5000 and I have Daijya helmets in my wishlist. What do you guys say? Any suggestions?

re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Friends I m planning a goa trip in a couple of months. Idea is to fly down to goa and rent a bike from there. Now I want to carry my own helmet to use there and was wondering how to transport it? I suppose the airline people wont allow it as cabin luggage so was wondering what can the options be?

I use a daijya with an air pump and all. Seems good to me but hellish wind noise specially at speeds above 65-70 Km/hr. So if you are looking for something that cuts down the noise look elsewhere. Daijya is very bad in that department specially considering the price tag.

Thanks a ton for the info. I usually use my bike for highway trips ONLY and hence, the wind noise need to be under check.

PS- How much should a Daijya set me back by? What model do you use and for how much you bought it?

Thanks.

PPS- This is the helmet I use and how much better would a Daijya be as compared to this? Any idea anyone?
