Thanks Akshay. I wear specs so need either a sun visor or switchable shields. The bell blacked out one comes with two shields. Funny part is that the fiberglass FB has a sharp 4 star whereas the IS 17 has a sharp 5 star rating.

Leaning towards the bell due to the price unless the HJC comes around the 12K mark (read an earlier post about a user getting an FG-17 for 12K) . Any issues with the bell lids? How is the wind noise?

Checked high note performance and their website does not have this in their inventory.

I was mentioning about the helmet stability.

There is a provision for use of spectacles with FG17 and the visor change mechanism is very easy. A dark visor will set you back by around 3K.

Also Bell helmets are quite noisy. No doubt the transition shield is a huge plus. But then it costs also equally steep. I would recommend HJC over Bell any day.

Personally use HJC FG17, Shoei Qwest and X-Fourteen.

Mod Note : Team-BHP strongly discourages unsafe driving practices that put yourself and other road users at risk. Please do NOT post about illegally high speeds on public roads.

Yes, the transition one with high note is for 17K. The blacked out one is 12. This one comes with one clear and one smoked out visor.

Having a provision for specs is nice. Both IS and FG have this or only FG?
Also depending on country HJC has different lock mechanisms. Does the India spec come with a double D ring?

Shoei under 15K in India? Who sells them?

Shoei doesnt have a distributor in India - and i doubt you will get anything for 15k in Shoei :-)

Both FG & IS have it. IS is more prone to noise as it as a cavity for ISV.

Also HJC FG-17 world over comes with Double D-Ring. Where as IS-17 comes with micrometric retention.

I happen to mention the Shoei reference because of speed and stability usage issue one was doubting above. I get my helmets from the US. Qwest cost me around 27K. X-Fourteen around 65K.

SHARP updates:
MT Mugello has been rated 4 stars, Shoei Ryd gets 5 stars.

Meanwhile, Airoh has a brand new ST501 model line, for sport-touring, below the ST701 line. Xlite's new X803 range looks good too.

Great information on what goes into making an arai. Although it is mostly marketing, there are a few bits about why they do what they do. Watch all episodes here:

And considering it is still the only family run helmet business abound, i think the owners will stand up to what they make better than any esop driven CEO ever will.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Latest Arai touring helmets, the Quantum x, Signet x in the USA, the QV pro in Europe, and the Astral x in Japan (all the same apex touring lid) get a 5 star rating in SHARP.

https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/helmets/arai-qv-pro/

Also exceeding snell 2010 and Dot standards.

The newer Arais seem to be killing it at the sharp standards. The older ones... Well avoid them if you find them at a deep dish discount anywhere.

Helmet stolen again? You had picked Axxis not long ago, right?

Why not repeat MT? Other options could be Axor, SMK, THH.

More than helmet, get a strong wired lock for helmet as well or always carry helmet along with you.

Dont want to repeat MT because the visors for the same are not easily available. Tried a lot for the tinted visor but couldnt get it anywhere in Mumbai.
The helmet was 1year, 3 months old only. Had a LS2 before that which got stolen from the same parking spot. (My workplace parking spot).
Have decided to carry the helmet with me always.
Planning to go for LS2 again.

Just bought an Axor helmet. Have no idea about the model name or number. Costed me 4,000/-
Just bought it so cant give a review.
Although just in my 2kms ride, i felt the MT axxis was much prone to wind noise. This one seems a BIT more noisy.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Hey Guys!

I would be visiting Singapore in next three weeks.

Any leads on good helmet stores there and which helmet I should look at and buy?

I have shortlisted below options for now -

1. ARAI RX7X
2. Shoei - X-Fourteen (Marquez edition)

I would appreciate some pointers on ownership or riding experience w.r.t above helmets. I am open to seeking suggestions on other options as well.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Amey
