Well said. You are reflecting my thoughts on the subject almost in toto.

There was a time I was comfortable with the brands like Fiberall, Studds etc. Had my share of spills and those lids did there job more than once. But once moved to international brands and got used to the fit of those products, it has become difficult to adjust to those who doesn't pay attention to the finish and detail

Also with increased speeds etc the mental peace becomes more important in the decision.

Equally important is the role of the riding gear/suits, gloves, boots etc

Often I have seen that the body gear has helped many riders to walk away from crashes, which otherwise would have laid them on bed for atleast two to four weeks.

I think in India its time youngsters started paying attention to it.

Last weekend in Bangalore I met few young riders out on an early morning ride to Nandi Hills. I was really impressed that they had turned out in the correct gear and I wish more will follow the suit

I have been riding bikes for close to three decades, and I have always worn a helmet for the entire duration. I have a very strict rule; never ride without it if I am going out on any road with traffic, or one that will permit even moderate speeds. Anyone riding pillion with me must comply. I have a spare helmet at home for them. I presently have two Vegas.

Always stayed with Vega. Main reason as I said, is ISI compliance. But it also gets knocked off from it's perch (not my head!) in the office or home from time to time, when I replace it asap. A helmet costing around 1 - 1.5k does not pinch much. A very expensive one may prove a disincentive for that kind of replacement!

That said, it may always not be possible to avoid giving a lift to someone without a helmet. We may see a friend or a colleague on the way and can't simply ride away because the spare helmet is at home! We have to ride extra cautious then.

A helmet will cause discomfort and sweating. It may not save lives at all times. Despite the helmet the neck may break in the impact or the wearer may get run over. That will be fate or act of God, despite precautions. But the odds are good that helmets will save lives most of the time, and that should be good enough reason to wear them.

Just bought a Vega Helmet recently. It cost me 1.3k
There were a few cool ones in the shop like the one which parrys has posted which tempted me but heck, what's the use of buying a costlier helmet when I don't ride too much.
Not a totally snug fit but it's a little on the looser side.

Good buy. But you could have considered, the Studds Scorpion or Vega AXOR both are really good helmet especially the former. I have a friend of mine who bought the Studds Scorpion, excellent VFM helmet. The AXOR on the other hand is DOT approved and good helmet. Comes only close to the Cross series and is on par with quality.

Nice! I also see that you've a pinlock ready visor. I'd advise to go for the pinlock shield if you can; they're the best solution to fogging.

Did a preliminary search but couldn't find anything. Can you tell me the model of the shield your helmet has? Since it's a Cirus, I reckon HJC pinlock visors will fit. But you still need the model no. of the shield/lid to get the corresponding visor. Although bleak chances that it'll be available in India.

It is a HJC-09C.

Yup - easier to do this. I use my Cross helmet for long rides out of the city and the Vega for in the city - easier as I have to show my ugly mug to the office security everyday and the ISI is for the cops - though its been some years since I've been stopped.

Excellent pics and bloody impressive for the price. Yes most vents are just not that effective when it comes to really clearing up the fog, but yes, vents do work and it helps.

And BTW, I paid close to 30 grand for a helmet with the same visor lock mechansim, how sad.
