Re: The Riding Gear thread

Hi, I need some suggestions on tank bags. I currently have a rynox tank bag which is doing it's duty on my himalayan. But the magnetic straps have left deep scratches due to the sand getting stuck between the strap and tank surface. Hence, need a better alternative for my vstrom650. Not sure, if a ppf will do the job. Can I have some expert suggestions please

Alternatives as follows:

1. Get PPF applied. The PPF will take the scratches overtime. PPF may loose colour over time. I applied PPF on my Mahindra mojo and it held for over 6 years. Removal of PPF may be a pain down the line. Another Plus point is you can wipe the tank clean easily and will handle small chips in the event of a stone hit.
2. Get a non magnetic harness and attach the bag to the bike using that. The tank will still be prone to scratches.
3. Pricier way is to get the SW-Motech or Givi tank bag series with the tank mount ring. These bags will not touch the tank and hence the paint will remain un-blemished. Cons of this option are higher initial investment and the tank bags available in Givi and SW-Moto will not match in volume to your current tank bag.

Highly recommend SW Motech tank bags. They come in many capacities and the magnetic ring is amazing. You can even lock it and yes, no scratches at all

Thank you for the swift responses. I did check out these tank bags which come with their own patented lock systems. The only gripe is the capacity it offers at the price point they are being sold! But seems like there aren't many options but to go for these ones for the love of the bike 😊
Will leave a comment here when I pick one.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Guys, I seem to be having some issues in my gloves. I have Solace Passion Urban - Size L. The problem is that my right hand little finger gets a terrible pain after a day's riding. (300-500 Kms).
My bike is 2021 RE Himalayan and i have grip puppies installed. Seems riding posture is not an issue as there are no other pain areas and my little finger is fine after a day's without gloves.

Any idea what seems to be the problem?
Is it the grip puppies + foam padding causing my little finger to be out of place inside the gloves.
Also, my little finger and thumb finger seem to be small for the gloves, they have some gap at the end. However, remaining fingers fit correctly.

I checked the size chart on Solace website and my gloves are one size bigger.
Now, i want to get a all weather gloves, so thinking of getting a RE Blizzard or VersaDry in one size smaller.

Any thoughts and suggestions? should i guy one size smaller?

Thmh, just get the PPF coating done on the tank of the VStrom 650 and use the same Rynox tank bag. There is no need to compromise on the space and convenience of the fully functional tank bag that you currently own.

gypsyFreak, it is quite possible that it is quality issue with this particular pair of gloves. If the fitting was consistent, you should face an equal amount of pain on your left hand as well. Quality issues are not unusual with Indian riding gear brands. I would go so far as to say that it is their Achilles heel. We have seen a lot of issues with Rynox on this thread. If the product is still within warranty, get it replaced. Or else sell it and buy another pair of gloves.

On your second question, sizing is not consistent across brands. Royal Enfields winter gloves look to be good. Try and buy.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

RE are such gentlemen when it comes to honouring warranty claims. They gave me a new pair and asked me to be careful

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Are there any riding gear shops in Bangalore that has trial room? Orion motors Koramangala has any trial room? I am below the normal height at just 5'4" and I always have difficulties buying regular pants. I don't want to buy riding gears online.

Another option I am considering are these Scott knee guards. Scott is a reputed bicycle manufacturer who also seem to sell motocross specific protection products. I see two options available one at 4K and the other at 11K. Are these any good ?
I think these are motocross style protectors and not for road usage but still something is better than nothing.

If in the Whitefield area, you may try MotoArmour. They have a trial room as well.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

I am planning to hit Manali next month and would go straight to Leh from there by taking a rental motorcycle. I have heard that the route will receive a reasonable amount of rainfall next month and I wanted some rain liner/rain jacket that could be worn over my riding jacket. The rain liner in my riding jacket is not going doing a good job lately. Could you guys recommend me the right one?

I had gone to decathlon today, but most of their rain gears were out of stock. However, the cycling waterproof jacket was available and it seems to be of good quality. Should I pick it up?

Thanks!

You can’t. Your bike will be seized at leh. Fly to leh and rent your bike there.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

We wanted to ride more. Is there any other place where we could land and spend more time on the bikes and route (to Leh) without having any trouble?

No. Bikes have to be rented in Leh.
