Hi Siju,

Is the time restriction is due to road work? Hope the orad will be open 24*7 once it is completed

The toll which you have mentioned is an official one or bribing?

Thanks
Rajesh

1. How much time it took for you to hit Mananthavadi?

2. Where is Cafe Coorg located in Hunsur? Can it be easily located? Is it a decent place with rest rooms, etc?

Cafe Coorg is between the Y intersection when you reach Hunsur from Mysore side. One road goes to Hunsur town and the other is the town bypass.
This is like Coffee Day + you will get indian dished like Idli, Dosa etc.
The restrooms are almost like Coffeeday.

Its not because of the construction work, because construction happens in the day time, this money is just to bribe the police, road will be open for 24 hours once it is officially open to the public.

Meanwhile, Sunday's Malayalamanorama reported that:
- the Makkutta road will be open on 1st June. There was also a picture of one of the hairpin bends with newly laid concrete.
- the stretch from Koottupuzha till Makkutta is not so good, but drivable.
Tarring of this Stretch (Kutta Police Station to Tolpatty Forest Check Post has started Today.

Might be completed by this weekend if the rains does not interrupt the work.

In the meanwhile the Maakuta Road will be open this weekend. But will be open for commercial traffic only by June 1st.

Thanks Nithin, you are the official "Road informer" for this.

This road required it quite desperately, it was already in a bad shape a year back.

It took about 330KM to Thalassery via Nagarhole -- Mananthavaadi -- Koothuparamba. total time taken was 7 hours, that includes, 1 hour 15 minutes break.

The Maakuta road is almost complete. took this road yesterday and was amazed to see the progress of work from last month.

The stretch between Maakuta police check post and Perumpaady police check post is almost complete. The final layer of tar is being laid.

Patch work of the road between Kerala border and Maakuta police checkpost is being done.

The road will be open from 1st June as the edge filling is going on, which will take a week to complete along with the final layer of tar.

Also the temple which is half way along the climb is renovated.

The total distance covered from Kannur to Bangalore in this route is 304 Kms. Did it in 6 Hrs which includes 45 mins break.
Total running time 5.15 hrs in day time. Which will further reduce if we are traveling in the night .

Few pics of the road attached.

Hey Anoop,

Please take the Gonikoppa-Kutta-Tolpatty-Kattikulam-Mananthavady-Iritty-Kannur route.
