I don't have a GPS. Could you please name the points I need to cover to reach Nasik Phata? Like Baramati-Moregaon-Sasvad-??

I have taken the NH9-Hadapsar-Nasik Phata once. Do not know the NH4 route.

Going OT, sorry, but a lot of my experience was to the contrary. Trucks are all over the place requiring one to weave/zig-zag through them, and I had 4-5 close shaves (including one on MGEW!) when vehicles in front suddenly cut lanes without indication whatsoever.

It pays to be extra-watchful on those fast GJ/RJ GQ stretches, however good/bad GJ drivers are.

@Ushuaia: Pune- Ggn in 29 non-stop or was it driving time with short/long/overnight breaks in between?

The easiest would be for you to take the new katraj tunnel and go on the pune-mumbai bypass road and continue till Dehu Road(do not take the left to the MPEW),and after that go on the NH4 towards Mumbai and from Talegaon,take a right onto the Talegaon-Chakan road (after a military camp on your left,guess its CRPF) and connect directly onto NH50(Pune-Nasik highway) via Chakan.This would be the easiest I presume,as you would not have to wade through any city traffic.Pune guys might have a different view

Route Planned:

Day 1:

Pune-Kapurhol-Baramati-Indapur-Sholapur-Hyderabad.

Day 2:

Hyderabad-Jangaon-Suryapet-Vijayawada-Vishakapatnam.

Return routes would be the same.

Is the road condition in the route metioned by you, okay till Sholapur? Especially after this monsoon.

Is it to avoid the 4 laning activity on the NH9?

Ofcourse, I am sure, it would be less denser than the high way.

Well, I for one sure that it is good until Kapurhol. After that it should be OK. Yes it indeed is to avoid the WIP on the Pune-Solapur stretch.

BTW, are your plans still on? If yes, lets plan accordingly, what say?


There are no recent updates on Indapur-Solapur-Hyderabad stretch. Anyone with updates please?

Nothing major that you need to know except that pray there are no bandhs on the days you travel,else you would run into fuel problems in and around hyderabad,especially while leaving from Hyderabad for Vizag

Yes. I am game for the dates mentioned by you.

Infact, the latest development is, I need to do this stretch on 7th Oct itself to attend my cousin's wedding in Vizag on 9th early morning.

Just gave my ride for the regular servicing. Will get it latest by tomorrow evening.

Will again do atleast half of it with you in Diwali vacations.

Please check thisthread. It has the latest updates on this stretch of road.

By the way, I hope you know about the T-situation. Please be prepared and have a couple of backup plans in case of rasta rokos or other food/fuel-shortage related emergencies.

I took Pune-Sholapur-Hyderabad-Suryapet-Vijaywada-Rajamundry-Vishakapatnam.


Pune to Sholapur is good in stretches but equally pathetic otherwise. Sholapur-Hyderabad has to be driven carefully as the road conditions deteriorate suddenly for stretches of 2-5 kms otherwise it is good.

Hyderabad to Vijayawada is good and is similar to Pune to Sholapur. Vijayawada to Vizag is awesome fun!
Pune-Hyderabad (Hinjewadi 3:45 PM -AS RaoNagar 6:15 AM) 14 Hours.
Hyderabad-Vizag (AS Rao Nagar 7 AM to TSN Colony 8 PM) 13 hours.

Vizag(7 AM)-Hyderabad(6 PM)- 11 hours.

Hyderabad(8 AM)-Pune(Bhavdhan)(7: 30 PM)- 11 hours.

Doing this route again today .
Planning to start by 4.00pm latest this time.
Route planned is Pune - Indapur - Sholapur - Basavakalyan - Zaheerabad - Hyd. The regular NH9.

Again return back on Thursday. Planning to start by 6.00am. Atleast this time.


Did this route on 25th Oct and back on 30th.

Started at Pune by 8.00am. from Pimple saudagar.
Reached Shoalpur by 12.15.
Had a lunch break and started again at 1.15pm.
Reached BHEL by 6.15pm with two more breaks.
The road condition was good between Pune and Sholapur. I got good speeds. Was able to maintain 100 kmph on long stretches. Truck traffic was heavy though.
Once KA roads start, pot holes are very frequent, reducing the speeds.
Again it was a breeze from Zaheerabad to Hyd.
Total time taken was 10.15 hrs to reach HYD along with the breaks. From there another 2 hours to reach my home in Chaitanya puri, the other end of the city.

As sugarcane crushing season is started, you may face slowmoving sugarcane trailers and carts near patas, bhigwan, indapur.
Be careful during night driving as these trailers/carts have not back reflectors.

Indapur-12mati route will be full of sugarcane carts day and night for next six months.

Plan your journey accordingly.

You would have reached must faster if you'd taken th ORR from Patancheru to Vijawada Highway via Shamsabad. Though longer, you'd have reached Hayatnagar in an hour, and Chaitanyapuri in another 30 minutes max.

Hi vnabhi, thanks for your update. I am planning on driving down from Bombay to Vizag during the coming January. Just wanted some clarifications on the route that i want to take.

On the way to Vizag from Bombay, I do not plan to stop over at Hyderabad and wanted to know if I can skip Hyderabad completely by driving through the ORR.

I will be approaching on the NH9 from Solapur, and as per Google Maps, I can completely circumvent Hyderabad by getting onto the ORR at Gachibowli and re-joining the ORR near Abdullapurmet.

Please keep in mind that I have absolutely NIL knowledge about roads in Hyderabad.
