I'm planning to travel to Ooty this weekend from Bangalore. Can I take the usual Blr-Bandipur-Ooty route?

Its still flooded and would suggest to not go. If urgent only option is to go via Mettupalaym.

Best toa avoided at this juncture.

Planning a coonoor drive on 15th August. I think given the weather and road closures, it is better to take the salem route. Any updates on the Mysore road condition as of now? Or should I stick to Salem route?

Sorry for back to back posts, but it would be great if it can be clarified where the flood affected areas are en route to Coonoor, as I was planning a trip tomorrow. I guess the Salem - avinashi route would be safe?

Its the Mysore-Nanjangud which is flooded. And so is Srirangapatna. Also please situation in Ooty. I heard Avalanche had suffered had quite some landslides.

Just returned yesterday after a trip to Coonoor last Saturday (10th Aug).
Was informed about the flooding and road closure between Mysore and

Nanjangud (and beyond), so checked with KSRTC , Mysore . They confirmed
that their Mys-Ooty service was intact, but via T Narasipur.


So, started at 5.00 AM from Kalyan Nagar, and took the following route.


Nice Road

Maddur
Malavalli
Bannur
T Narasipur
Chamrajanagar
Gundlupet
Masinagudi
Ooty/Coonoor.


Arrived at Coonoor at 11.30 AM.



Beautiful roads throughout, with just a small bad patch between T Narasipura and Chamarajanagar ( abt 8 km ) .


The Avalanche problem was noted, but did not affect the situation within
Ooty town and Ooty-Coonoor sector.


On return, since we wanted to avoid the Pykara-Gudalur route, took a different route :


Coonoor
Mettupalayam
Sathyamangalam
Chamarajanagar
Kollegal
Kanakpura
Nice Road
Kalyan Nagar



Total driving time = 6.5 hours with 2 stopovers for lunch and tea.


Note : Bannur village had signs of water logging , with flood waters on both
sides of the road, but it did not affect movement.



Hope this helps all who are planning an Ooty/Coonoor trip.

How is the road to Coorg from Bangalore? A colleague of mine is flying Bangalore from Hyderabad tomorrow morning, and is planning to take a cab to Coorg and later to Ooty from there.

Route wise it looks fine to Coorg. First hand information mentioned here (Bangalore - Coorg : Route Queries).

Update to interested folks. The route via Dharmapuri Sathya Mangalam is absolutely fine.. not much rain fall in Ooty as well.. I started on 11 th August and returning back to blr today .

Hello all,

I am planning a trip from Bangalore to Masingudi (Bamboo Banks resorts) tomorrow (16th Aug). Travelling with family (4 adults + 1 child). Just noticed on google maps a road closure between mysore and nanjanagudu. Could you please suggest any alternate routes? Is Blr-Maddur-Malavalli-Bannur-T Narasipura-Chamrajanagara-Gundlupetet-Bandipur-Masingudi a good option still as suggested above?

Also i am travelling in a Ford Figo. Will there be any problems with road enroute due to any recent flooding situation?

MAddur-Malavalli-Bannur-T Narasipur-Chamarajanagar-Gundlupet route should

be good. Last week it was ok, and the heavy showers have subsied since.



Just in case you find Bannur flooded (only a small possibility ), you can

always go back to Malavalli , and take the Kollegala-Chamrajanagara-Gundlupet route. It will be another 30-45 minutes ride.

There was a deviation around there last week when river was overflowing, however I guess that is not the case now. A friend of mine traveled in that route yesterday and didn't mention anything. Else too, there was no closure as such, it was just a diversion of few KM's, same as last year during flood.


Kanakapura - Mallavalli - Bannur - Mysore ring road - Gudlupet road is the best option.

Thanks for the update. Planning to head back to Bangalore via the Bandipur - Gundlupete - Begur - onwards route tomorrow. Anything in particular that we should be aware off?

We came to Ooty via Mettupalayam route on the way here. No issues on that (longer) route.
