Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

"The Bear" season 3 on Hulu/Hotstar.

1/5

Probably going to ruffle a few feathers as this series has amassed a massive fanbase but personally, with every passing season I am getting tired of the happenings in the show.

Similar to how things go in S01 and 02, the third season makes me anxious and probably others too. Really, I am not kidding. As soon as the protagonist comes on screen the heat increases. He is always on the edge, ready to blast off at the slightest of triggers throwing away food worth hundreds of dollars and yelling at others. The camera work is such that you are always looking at characters' faces from 6 inches away amplifying the effect.

Then there is the language, unnecessarily profane. You could start counting F words in it and fill up a 100 page notebook with tally marks by the end of one episode.

However those are not the only peeves. Without giving away too much, there are a bunch of supporting characters that have the most idiotic and frustrating dialogue exchange I have seen in recent times. I believe the intention was to make them sound funny but they end up being terribly annoying. As if once was not enough, that particular group of characters keeps having these dialogues in every episode.

1 star to redeem because there are some diamonds in all the rut. For example, really genuine sounding monologues from people who only appear in the show for few minutes or the backstory of one of the characters.
And despite my displeasure, I have to give credit for creativity by the directors for very first episode of S03.

Yes very disappointed with the S3. I don't want to rate it at all. The only high for me was seeing a reference to another chef movie, which perhaps is to build up the Michelin star rating that's to be addressed in the next season if there's one.

Mirzapur Season 3 on Amazon prime

Binge-watched all 10 episodes yesterday and it was a mixed feeling by the end. This definitely is not as engaging as first two instalments but more of a premise-setting for next season. Lot of character plots running in parallel. All actors have done good as always but the plot building made it feel a bit stretched in sections

Rating : 3.5/5

Thanks SoumenD. I found it heavy going and have not got past Episode 3 so far.

I did watch few episodes of "Tires" on Netflix. It is a silly comedy set in a car workshop in the US and might make you laugh, especially if you've lived in the US and taken your car to a garage anytime.

Season 3 felt more like a drag compared to the 1st two seasons with just a couple of thrilling scenes in the entire show.
That Golu character felt more like a comedian than a gangster, running around brandishing a gun in her back .
Had to take breaks in between the binge watching due to the monotonous and slow paced presentation.

Mirzapur S3 is so bad that I don't think I will be able to finish...
I have really put in lots of effort to reach up to episode 6, but I have now completely lost interest.. not sure if I will be able to complete.

So so disappointed.
S1 was a masterpiece - 10/10
S2 was good - 8/10
S3 is a disaster - no rating.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Mirzapur S03 feels like it exists solely because the show makers were under obligation to create it and not because they have any interest in it.

It used to feel raw now it's all mushy. Characters don't even speak the correct lingo now. Mediator? East? West? Come on. They have butchered the show.

Mirzapur S3
OTT : Amazon Prime
3/5

This series had set the tone for Narcos style series for India and unlike the masterpieces like Narcos, Narcos Mexico etc, this series has been fizzling out each season it walks into.

I have seen 7 episodes till date which brings me to the point, why do you have to have 10 episodes. What's wrong with 5, 6 or 7- choose any number as per your superstition. Dammit, 10 episodes feels like a lifetime for this season. It's heavy, intense and I was not able to watch more than 1 EP per day.

I like Gudda Bhaiya for his pyscho and unpredictable behavior and Sharad Shukla has a fantastic screen presence and is more intense than Guddu Bhaiya.

Golu is good but, always a shadow of Guddu Bhaiya.

Beena Tripathi is wasted and is forced into the scenes.

Madhuri Yadav as CM is nice and balanced. It kind of suited her.

Kaleen Bhaiya seems to have lost the charm. Dadda was nice but, Shatrugan is wasted.

Overall, everyone is fighting for Purvanchanal ki Gaddi leaving the audience wanting for more.

I hope they fix this issue and bring back Munna Bhaiya to redeem some part of this series. I'm now thinking how will I finish rest of the episodes.

P.S : The opening soundtrack is the best in OTT business. Yet to find something as catchy as this one.

Guys, don’t miss the end-credits sequence in Mirzapur 3. There’s a sequence that comes up as soon as the credits start rolling and another one after the rest of the credits.

Don’t miss that!

I agree. Shwetha Tripathi ruined it for me. She was just all over the place with that gun that looked (funnily) huge in her hands

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

"Pill" in JioCinema, an excellent one time watch. It is a bold take against the pharma industry. Even some family and relationship matters are portrayed with Subtlety. It looks like Riteish's first OTT venture and he has played brilliantly. The humility and vigour he brings to the character is excellent.

There isn't any heroism as such and a lot of weightage is given to all characters. Some predictable moments here and there but that can be done only by experienced movie buffs. Overall, the screenplay is great as well.

The last episode was the best and had so many edge of the seat moments.
A must watch and deserves a 4/5 for sure.

Midnight Mass:

Could not get past episode 1. What a drag it was.

Midnight Club:

1st episode did not put us to sleep so that's a good thing Plan to watch the rest of the episodes. A bit teenagerish but let's see how it goes.

C.B. Strike 2017

8/10

I'm a huge fan of crime/thriller shows and absolutely loved this one. The plot and actor casting were spot on. Tom Burke has been added to my favourite actors list.

The Whirlwind - Netflix

This Korean drama is an interesting take on political / corporate nexus. Sometimes it can become a drag but overall a bold and interesting series.

Midnight Club is also turning out to be a snoozefest. Any good supernatural occult horror series to be recommended?
