Still no luck for me. Looks like they are handling the traffic better for major locations like Bangalore,Chennai.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

I recently watched "Matsya Kaand" on MX Player, and it turned out to be a gripping revenge thriller. The show has hints of Money Heist in parts, with Ravii Dubey excelling as Matsya Thada, a mastermind conman who relies on brains rather than brawn. It starts a little slow but picks up from the end of the first episode, keeping you hooked with its twists and thrilling moments. The rivalry between Matsya and ACP Tejraj Singh, played by Ravi Kishan, adds tension and excitement. While it has its fair share of typical Bollywood-style masala and some flaws, it’s still a fun and engaging watch for fans of crime dramas.

Watched The Diplomat, Season 2 that recently released on Netflix.

Carries forward the intrigue from Season 1. Keri Russell in one of her finest roles. The show portrays the intricacies of geopolitics.

The ending of Season 2 is sure to blow your mind; what a cliffhanger! Eagerly awaiting Season 3 now!

Off topic: There were streaming issues with Netflix having problems with the feed as reported in today’s newspapers. And as for the boxing, as an admirer of Mike Tyson since long, it was sad to see him just trying to land a jab on Paul Jake. I don’t know what prompted Tyson to be back into the ring and I am hard pressed to think that it was about the money part only.

A Tyson in his prime would have finished the bout inside thirty seconds. A rank you tuber would have thought thrice to take on Tyson, had he been even a decade younger than what he is now !

I couldn't watch either. Luckily didn't miss anything special, it seems
I wish I could also unsee what I witnessed yesterday morning ! At least, you will still have the memory of Tyson destroying his opponents.

From - 1/5

The initial few episodes looked promising. From then on it was super boring.
Somehow managed S1, fast forwarded S2 episodes and quit before reaching S3.

The Penguin - JioCinema

Started watching HBO's latest show based on excellent reviews online. Completed two episodes and I can agree with the ratings. Colin Farrell is terrific as the titular character.

CROSS - 4/5

After completing Alex Rider last week, its Alex Cross this week.

A solid mix of detective work, profiling, use of psychology, suspense and intrigue. Beautiful storyline with amazing plot twists keeps you glued all the time.

Penguin is indeed an amazing series. I am on E5 now. Cristin Milioti deserves an Emmy for her performance, once you catch up on E4 you will agree.

The Day of the Jackal - 2024 (Series)
OTT : Peacock
3/5

Being a hardcore fan of Fredrick Forsyth's book and watching all its previous adaptations, this one turned out to be a damp squib. Primarily for the reason of chosen starcast.

Eddie with his feeble voice does not sound sinister at all and and with his short wiry frame, its even harder to imagine him as a world class hit man for hire.

Secondly, Lushya as the MI6 agent was unconvincing and acted too haughty as if she knew it all.

Ursula (Money Heist actress) was wasted in this tiny and unromantic (they have zero chemistry between them as every conversation between them seemed so forced) role.

They tried to make it like a Bond movie (opps, series) but, it was barely exciting and watchable.

I was always intrigued by the "Jackal" and any sniper who can take such long range shots.

For fans of this genre, I would highly recommend a couple of movies that were lot better using this theme than Jackal. I will wait for rest of the episodes to drop but, I already lost interest.

1. Bradley Cooper's American Sniper (True story and one of the most celebrated snipers in the US Marine Corps)

2. Mark Wahlberg's Shooter- Fantastic movie.

.
The beauty of the original Jackal is that his killing is minimal. Emerges, kills and disappears. Only kills when exposed. In this series, he is a serial killer

Off topic:
The best Jackal portrayal was by Bruce Willies in my view. That movie certainly had all the ingredients of a perfect thriller. The long range shot involving a very young Jake Black and Bruce Willis still remains an iconic shot. And yes, Shooter is one fantastic movie for sure.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Freedom at Midnight on Sony LIV.

A brilliantly succinct portrayal of the sequence of events leading upto the partition and independence of India in 1947. The show is based on the legendary book of the same name co-authored by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins.

The casting of the show is spot-on and the actors have done an exceedingly good job in capturing the emotional conflict faced by all characters; a tough job in itself, considering all of them are revered leaders and legends in themselves.

The background score is haunting and lends a chilly feel to the overall show.

Even though almost all of us are aware of the history, the depiction of events still gives goosebumps. Credit also to the production team for producing a stylish template.

Rating: 4/5

P.s. It's unfortunate that the Sony LIV does not market their content well, unlike their competitors like Netflix or Prime Video. Hence, not many people in general are aware of some superb content, the show in question being one of them.
